FILE Corruption - Illustrator will not open AI files. Adobe CC/Windows 10.
just trying to open AI files to work in ILLUSTRATOR. POS won't open. After reboot, won't open. How was the subscription model supposed to be better?

Since this is not a generic issue that we can reproduce at our end, we will need someone to look into your machine to figure out what is going on here. -

Zoom artefact
Illustrator 21.1.0
When I use a very high zoom (25 500 %), paths appear distorded or even disappear.
It happens when GPU rendering is off as well as when it's on.

Shift-clicking in Layers doesn't select range if filter is used
I have dozens if not hundreds of elements I need to select in a document. I can get them into a contiguous list in the Layers panel with a filter, but this breaks range-selection.
Screen grab attached, showing clicking behavior with the Shift key held down, with and without a filter in effect.

Brush rendering offset glitch (fixed temporarily by switching brushes)
When drawing with a calligraphic brush in Adobe Illustrator (latest version via Creative Cloud on Windows), with Wacom Cintiq, the stroke appears visually offset by several pixels from the actual path.
In Wireframe view, the path is in the correct position, but in normal preview mode the rendered stroke is shifted.
Interestingly, if I switch to a different brush (e.g. a basic non-calligraphic brush) and then switch back to the original calligraphic brush, the rendering corrects itself and the stroke aligns properly again.
The issue seems to be document-specific: when I create a completely new document, the problem does not occur there.
System info:
OS: Windows
App: Adobe Illustrator (latest version via Creative Cloud)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti
Screen/Pen: Wacom CintiqNotes:

No layer thumbnail for single element layers
Issue: There's no layer thumbnail when dragging single elements to a new layer.
This bug has been already mentioned and acknowledged, but has not been fixed, nor has had received any sort of update or follow up on its status. I believe it only affects v29.8.2 onwards.
Here's a direct quote from the discussion describing the bug:
"When dragging a graphic element to a new empty layer, there is no image preview in the layer square (row Size Medium Option in Layer Panel). When you add another element, a preview appears, but if you only have one element in a layer, you have to do extra steps to see the contents of the layer."
For designers who rely on layer thumbnails for design work, the unreliable layer thumbnails makes immediate changes hard to see and track. It disrupts workflow.

Layer thumbnails are not displaying properly (CPU Preview)
Issue: Layer thumbnails are cropped based on previous zoom state.
When you open a document that's been previously saved in a zoomed-in state, all visible layers' thumbnails will only show the elements that are visible in the zoom view. That is, elements that were out of view when the document was saved, are no longer visible in their layer thumbnail after reopening the document.
How to reproduce
Make sure "GPU Performance" is turned OFF in the preferences.
Create or open a document that has many elements in it.
Zoom into a particular area of the document, purposely cropping other parts of the document out of view.
Save the document.
Close and reopen the document.
Notice how the layers' thumbnails only display the elements that were in view.
Another possibly related bug is when creating elements via scripting. Elements generated outside of the current view are immediately not visible in their layer's thumbnail.
Some notes:
This only occurs when "GPU Performance" is explicitly switched OFF in the preferences (not by using CTRL+E or "View > View using CPU/GPU").
This only occurs for layers that are visible. Layers that had their visibility toggled off are not affected.
I believe the last version of Illustrator that did not have any of these problems was Illustrator 2024 (v28).
If needed, I can provide more details and/or screen recordings of the bugs. Just let me know.

Overset text indicators do not show when Type on Path has overflow
Text Overflow / Overset (+) Indicators are not showing on newer illustrator versions on Text Paths (Point Text).
The text paths have stopped showing the indicator when clicking off of the Text on a path (point type) has text overflow. As a map design company this is a big issue for us, as our files have thousands of text paths. We used to be able to identify crucial overset text information using these markers however they have vanished for the most past. Some files do occasionally show them but most do not. This is recently cause us to mistakenly print a files that have text overflowing with no indication.
- View using GPU and CPU makes no difference.
- It happens on old / new files when opened.
- Applies to all fonts,
- Some larger paths still show
- Does not differ if I toggle View > Show/Hide Text Threads

Stacked dimensions lagging Illustrator
The dimension around the red outline rectangle is the LAG source... try to move anything, it takes forever. But as soon as you delete the dimensions, the lag is gone. I'm not sure what is going on here.

The tooltip about the ability to smooth a part of the path get displayed many times instead of once until tried
The tooltip about being able to use the direct selection tool to select only a few anchor points and smooth just that portion is helpful... once. Afterwards, it's just distracting. Please have it turn off either after the first time it appears, or if the user has successfully done this maneuver at least once.

Illustrator repeatedly gets stuck saving causing a forced restart and loss of document
Illustrator repeatedly gets stuck saving almost every document that has any complexity. It will not finish it's save and requires a force quit/restart. It will also not autosave any document changes made before the error, so every time it happens it requires the file to be made from scratch. This has become so persistent in my files that I can no longer use illustrator.

Inaccurate stroke scaling on new objects
When I create a new shape, the stroke scaling is clearly not accurate. I have it set to 1 pixel, however, it appears much, much larger than a stroke set to 1 px.

Can’t access tools using Essential Classic workspace
My Essential Classic tools do not come up and it doesn't let me reset them either, so I can’t use Illustrator at all. I tried to uninstall and reinstall —didn't work either

Illustrator asked for my location... not sure this is a bug but it's concerning
It's bad enough that Adobe has moved to a subscription model and is putting AI in everything, but now Illustrator just asked for my location. I'm trying to maximize my PC's performance by turning off all the extra bloat. Does Illustrator really need to know my location?

Overlapping linearly opposing gradients (solid-to-transparent, of the same color) doesn’t produce a solid color
One oddity, which happens both in RGB and CMYK is that there is always some visibility of the background with two overlapping, linearly opposing gradients (black to white and white to black).
RGB attached for simplicity.
They should actually appear as uniform. Also the color at the 50% distance is not even a tint.2 votes -
Points move just slightly when segment is modified / reshaped using Anchor Point Tool
This is a TINY problem, but as all the problem with precision, these do accumulate, leading to other problems — especially when exported into other more precise appications.
To even see this within Ai a plugin is used, PathScribe by Astute Graphics, that allows to display distances between selected points, when 'Show Anchor Point Coordinate Ranges' option is enabled.
Here, in a Print-based document (doesn’t matter really) I set up two perfect squares with integer sizes, placed on a grid perfectly. When I select two point occupying the same position, the plugin panel tells me these are coincident.
Now I pick Ahcnor Point Tool and reshape the segment that uses one of these points to become a curve.
Ideally, the positions of the points affected should not change —only handles should be added...
...yet Illustrator MOVES the points slightly.
So now, if I select both points that should be coincident, the panel would tell me there’s now a small distance between them— just about 0.00005 mm... not enough to be noticed by Ai’s own functions, well within the tolerance of Pathfinder (0.028 pt, about 0.01 mm) and even more greedy Shape Builder (which got his own bug report about it: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/50269572)I see no reason to change the positions.
If I use the plugin’s own PathScribe tool that does the same thing (and was able to do this LONG before Adobe finally decided to add this function to Anchor Point Tool!) — there is NO change. Points don’t move, only handles update.Ai is so sloppy... I remember creating floor plans in Ai in 1:1000 scale (because the canvas is super tiny, even with 'Large Canvas (riddled with bugs too)), exporting it to CAD and having gaps — half a centimeter! Sure, Ai updated and doubled the precision since then, but I’m still traumatized. I deal with coordinates every day, designing both large and tiny things, and every decimal tail where I don’t expect it is frustrating. Sure, floating points, math... but just don’t change set values when it’s possible to NOT to.
