Pasting in front (ctrl+f) places objects outside of the sublayer I am working in.
When I am working in a document I quite often copy and use ctrl+f to paste a duplicate in the same location so that I can just slide it sideways, negating the need for me to locate the object using both X and Y. In one of the recent updates this function has broken somewhat. It has been a nuisance for a while that it tries to paste in the layer it was copied from, but now it does the complete opposite, even when I am in a layer it always pastes outside, unless I select the layer between every pasting operation, to my annoyance.
After some fooling around it seems like this is yet another problem that arises when you use any layer hierarchy that isn't completely flat, I couldn't reproduce the bug when using layers at the "root" of the document.
Why is Illustrator so bad at handling layers in layers? I create fonts using illustrator and my 6000-layer documents would become a complex mess without multi-level layer hierarchies. To reiterate; when I am in a layer in a layer, select one or more objects, copy and paste using ctrl+f the pasted objects are placed outside of the layer I am working in, one layer up the layer hierarchy.

Effects are still recalculated in Outline view
When I'm working on a super complicated and heavy artwork with lots of blends and effects, things tend to slow down A LOT. It would be a HUGE time saver if I could just switch to outline view and be able to edit the lines quickly without having effects turned on. I only see outlines so it doesn't make much sense to have effects and blends load each time I adjust something. They should be turned off in outline view and load when you switch back to preview.
There is absolutely no reason for having effects turned on in outline view.
Is this a bug or something your forgot to add?

Style Sheets
In Illustrator CC (Latest version and several previous) on Mac:
- BUG 1: Copying text with a Paragraph and/or Character Style applied and pasting it into a new text box adds a "+" to the end of every applied style, effectively breaking every bit of formatting that has been done. (Every style must be reapplied to the text to make the text update when the Styles are updated).BUG 2: When Staggered margins are set while editing the Style Sheet (e.g. a 20px Left indent and a -10px First Line indent), clicking on the "Tabs" tab, wipes out all newly set indents. The only way to keep the indents, is to first close the Style Sheet, and then re-open it and then edit the Tabs.
BUG 3: (ties into BUG 1) Any Style with a "+" added to it indicates that alterations have been made to the text outside of the Style. But, updates to the Style that don't affect the altered setting aren't applied to the text. This mean's that any styling to the text outside of the Style effectively breaks the entire link to the style. This 'should' function as Style sheets do in InDesign... keeping the link to the Style and treating the adjustment to the text as a manual override to just the adjust aspect (such as changing the text to a different color than used in the Style). What's the point in applying a style (beyond formatting text) if any alteration to the text breaks the Style?
I've been using Illustrator since it was a version 1.x application and the last few versions have been very ******* Style Sheets (bugs and poor implementation). Please fix current bugs first, rather than adding more new features!

Unselctable and undo glitch
When I go to select a shape or text item sometimes the bounding box disappears. Even when I go to show bounding box (command + Shift + B) the issue isn't resolved. I don't do anything different and it seems to happen randomly. I have to restart illustrator to fix it but sometimes that doesn't.
Once the bounding box disappears I cannot track the type and if I move an item it goes back to its org place.
Additionally, when I hit undo rather than going back one action it will go back 4 or 5 actions. This only happens once I have the selection issue.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled adobe with no luck. I have uninstalled and reinstalled high sierra 10.13.3 with no luck.

Problem with snap / smart guides
Illustrator 22.1, Max OSX High Sierra 10.13.3
The smart guides are always a little off, unless I zoom a lot.
For example, when I want to cut a path at an intersection, with CC2018, the cut is always a little off.
It happens with many other actions: moving anchor points, clicking on a path end point to continue drawing, adjusting tangents... the smart guides show the correct point, but the action snaps to something else.
See the example below, where I'm trying to continue that red line.

font favorite
Adobe Illustrator CC 22.1
I updated my Illustrator App, and of course, I had to migrate all my templates over to the new CC2018 folder. Why do you make us do this EVERY update?
Additionally, ALL of my Favorited fonts were lost. Ive spent so much time sifting through my fonts to favorite fonts in each class. Now, after the cc2018 update, all of my favorite font filters are gone. Why would you reset our font filters on this update? It seems you guys come out with more bugs than features in all of the Adobe CC software I use, Yet you insist on increasing your prices and force us into a subscription model. Every year I get closer to dropping Adobe and moving to full functioning software made by professionals in the field, rather than a Quantity over Quality Software subscription company.

Changing text spacing duplicates text and makes other object glitch
There is some kind of problem with the text spacing feature. It has been causing issues such as duplication of previous text, deleting text from another part of the page, causing all text to be spaced incorrectly and more.

Text Formatting Bug
Adobe Illustrator 22.1 (64-bit)
Typing text within a single text box that requires different font styles formatting.
While editing the text within the text box, in the last version (Illustrator 21), I could change up the font style of a font family and continue typing.
But, in the updated version, if I change the font style (i.e. roman, bold, italic) I have to click back into the text box to continue typing. In addition, the change in formatting does not apply once clicked back into said text box. This requires me to type out whatever needs to be typed out and then go back and format the text accordingly. Very frustrating for workflow.

Artboard Tool button crashes Illustrator
I'm trying to put this in the "Illustrator Bugs" category, but the button I have to click says "Post idea". Apologies if this is in the wrong area.
Every time I click the artboard button Illustrator crashes.
I'm using a 2017 iMac
Illustrator version 22.0.1I've been having the same problem since the last time I updated Illustrator (several months). Doing research in the trouble shooting forum leads me to believe this has been a problem since October 2017.
No one had posted a solution in the forum.
I spent a while on Adobe's website searching for the appropriate phone number to call, then over an hour on the phone with a very nice tech support person. He was able to fix this problem by deleting the application settings. The whole day I was able to add artboards without the application crashing.
However, the very next day the problem came back. Also, all of the settings I had to manually restore were gone again. So I'm stuck with the problem AND my settings were erased.
I suppose deleting my personal settings again might make it work, but I really don't have time to screw around restoring my settings every day.
This has been a known issue (according to the forums) since October 2017!
5 months!
What legitimate software company lets a major issue like this go unsolved for 5 months?
I'm very unimpressed.

The Operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. [x!fd]
This issue happens with older templates. When I open older files, it gives this message: The Operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. [x!fd]. I have a gotten this message in 2017 and Adobe step up to fix the issue, but the previous update and this one still has the issue. I can open these in previous versions of Illustrator. It's really a pain to fix the file as I have to save in Illustrator 8 and then reimport the text as this conversion converts the type to curves. Now to make matters worse if I save the file back to version 8 the new Illustrator wont open it. so I now need a previous version of Illustrator just to save back to Illustrator 8. I attached a simple file for you to look at that gives this issue.

Slow doing anything.
When I open the program, everything is going and moving fast, after awhile it gets really slow!
I understand that it maybe after awhile the cache gets full and the program gets to operate slower but this is not the case here.
With previous versions I didn't have to close and open the program in order for it to speed up. I would go for weeks not needing to close it. Right now in just couple of hours the program works from fast to being slow for no reason.4 votesPlease accept my sincere apology for the inconvenience. Illustrator CC 22.0.1 Type Anti-Aliasing Issue
Illustrator CC 22.0.1 Type Anti-Aliasing Issue
1. The dropdown menu in the type window for anti-aliasing options is disabled seemingly at random.- The anti-aliasing dropdown menu in the type window allows me to designate a render setting to one type selection however, this setting also seemingly applies to all type on the document (i.e. I cannot apply "Sharp" to one text block and "Strong" to another).

Issues with changing tint by typing in % value and hitting Return key
Illustrator 2018 CC 22.0.1
Mac OS El Capitan 10.11.6As per video, after typing in a numerical value for a tint on a global colour in the Color Panel and hitting Return, the value defaults back to original value. In my video, it shows that it’s having issues with values of 50% and 100% but this occurs randomly and can happen with different tint values.

cant copy text from illustrator and paste to indesign
When I attempt to copy selected text characters (not the object) and paste in Indesign, I get outlined characters. I have to go through TextEdit, or any other place I can paste text, then copy it again to get text that will paste in Indesign as characters.
4 votesThe latest version of Illustrator and InDesign have better handling of the buffer contents now. A selection of text at character level from Illustrator now gets copied and pasted fine in Indesign.
Please check if it works for you now and comment back.

Arrow keys are not working since I updated to Illustrator 2018
Was able to click the arrow key, up down or side one, since forever, and now the shapes, type objects, photos, etc... do not move. Clearly the arrow keys are not working... and only since I updated to 2018.

Align function not working properly in Illustrator CC 2017
I don't know what category this goes into because I'm not a developer. You could at least provide categories for users instead of for developers. Your program is extremely frustrating to use. It's not designed to be very user friendly. I wish Macromedia Freehand were still around, because I would be using it instead of Illustrator. I have an alignment error that happens when I select all and then use the "align to horizontal center" and "align to vertical center". I have complained about this before and no one replied to it. Since I am paying monthly for access to this "supposed high level" program, it would be nice if it actually worked the way it's supposed to. You charge people access fees when you still don't have the program perfected. We should be charging you for helping you fix it instead.

Custom Views, unlocking layers
"Custom Views unlocking layers"
Hi, I found something that I believe that wasn't supposed to work that way. I made a "Process" describing what's happening, but my point here is that I didn't expect the Views Feature to unlock layers, I thought it was only supposed to change the Zoom and view location.
Process:
1- Create a New view with everything unlocked
2- Lock some Layers.
3- Activate your view.Result: Everything gets unlocked

Export As SVG with 0 decimals fails in handling closed bezier curves
When using “Export for Screens…” or “Export As…” for exporting an SVG and setting the number of decimals to 0, the exporter succeeds in encoding primitives like rects, ellipses, circles and polygons, using only integers for their coordinates – but when your artwork contains any closed bezier curves (e.g. drawn with the pen tool or derived from a font) the resulting path elements will look something like <path d="M0,0Z"/> or <path d="M0,0H0M0,0H0M0,0H0M0,0H0M0,0H0M0,0H0M0,0Z"/>
What’s surprising about the bug is that the export of non-closed bezier curves works just fine.
Steps to reproduce:
- Create a new Illustrator file
- Draw a custom path with the pen tool, click on the first point to close it
- Choose File > Export for Screens…
- In the ‘Formats’ section choose SVG
- Click the tiny gear icon to open the “Advanced settings for exported file types” dialog
- In the left-hand column select ‘SVG’
- In the ‘Decimal’ input field type ‘0’
- Hit “Save Settings”
- Hit “Export Artboard”As a result you will end up with an SVG file that’s encoded as expected, except for the value of the path elemnt’s d-attribute, so in turn your SVG file will render as if it were empty.
Now why in heavens would I even need an SVG with so little precision? Well, when preparing assets for web content like animated advertising creatives, the pressure for ever-smaller assets is so high, that I would like to reduce my SVG’s file size by scaling it up 10-fold then outputting the coordinates as integers, and then scaling down again when displaying, thus ending up with an effective precision of one decimal, but saving the extra storage for the decimal point itself. I’ve tried it and it can save me around 20-30% storage without any loss in quality.
So not having to resort to third party tools like SVGO for making this work would obviously speed up my workflow a lot.
Thanks for fixing.

Selecting text with triple-click and navigating it with Cmd-arrows
Since day one with Macintosh. Click ONCE for a point, Click Twice for a WORD, click Three times for a sentence, Click four for a paragraph.
Illustrator CC 2018 no longer sees a Forced line break as the end of the sentence. All previous versions of Illustrator worked fine.
Triple clicking now selects from Paragraph return to Paragraph return.
This is definitely a BUG.Breaks, ^n is the common notation in a find field. But does not have one for a more common Paragraph Return.
You can copy the hidden paragraph return and search for this. The search field will show a blank space, not the standard ^p that is the common notation. So the search can work.
Now, not having a Find shortcut for a Paragraph return, but the little used Forced Line Break is shortsighted as InDesign Does.
