1. AI displays the START SCREEN on opening the file and the document view do not switches (refreshes) the file content.

   We have created this thread to investigate . If you are encountering the below mentioned issues with latest Version (24.0.1 on Mac and Win), then please vote on this User voice thread and provide Test File via File->Package, Video and steps via dropping email at sharewithai@adobe.com along with this thread link so that we can identify and fix the root cause.

   1. On opening a file in Illustrator the START SCREEN do not gets dismissed and the file’s content is not visible.

2. CSS Properties: Generated CSS selectors are wrong sometimes

   Hi.
   OS: Windows 10 x64
   Illustrator: 24.1.2 and older versions

   Steps:
   I have drawn two paths (shapes) on the same layer.
   I have given these names:
   abc1 and abc11 to each path

   When I select one of them, the generated css in CSS properties panel is ok, the selector's name is right. The issue happens just when I select both paths at the same time and try to generate the CSS.

   The selector name for abc11, is changed wrongly to abc111 (an extra 1 at the end).

   Expected result:
   .abc1
   {
   position : absolute ;
   left : 120px;
   top : 1226px;
   width : 74px;
   height : 25px;
   }
   .abc11
   {
   position : absolute ;
   left : 123px;
   top : 1272px;
   width : 74px;
   height : 25px;
   }

   Actual result:

   (Notice the extra 1, on abc11 selector name)

   It only fails when abc1 layer is above abc11 layer, when abc11 is above abc1 layer, the generated css is right.

   I have been facing the same issue for a long time, it would great a fix for it.

3. Bug: Properties Window - Transform Width & Height Increments Changed

   When adjusting W: or H: values using arrow keys or middle mouse button scroll I expect to be able to increment by .125 inch values which has been the default for my time using AI. Now I increment by 1 inch by default, CTRL allows increments by .5 inches, and Shift increments by 8 inches! All of these are off by 8X from previous defaults.

   I noticed this with the previous update.

   Currently configuration:
   AI 24.1.1 (64 bit),
   WIndows 10 Home V 1909 OS Build 18363.720

4. Switching between files doesn't work properly - or at all

   See the attached video. I have two files open. The second file I opened does not display. When I click on the file tab I still have the previous file displayed. Regardless of which file is active, I can only edit one. I can't even see the other. They are two completely different projects - they do not look the same. You are only seeing one file in this video, despite which one I select. I have to quite and restart, losing any changes I may have in the one file I cannot see.

5. Fill & Stroke colors & gradients selective but only previous fill visible on object

   Latest Windows PC Version 10 64-bit. Adobe 2020 (24.0.2).
   Everything was normal until I began drawing a regular 5-point star with green fill & black stroke (fill color doesn't really matter). Layer shows correct colors of star in layers panel but the layer folder and what's visible on screen show no change in red fill result (which was set previously). In other words, choosing different fill colors made no difference. However, stroke color can be changed. Tried other shapes with same results. (Even restarted Illustrator.)
   Putting another shape on top of a previous shape caused the stroke of 2nd shape to disappear as if the shape were behind the first shape.
   Then, suddenly, as I'm writing this, everything returned to normal momentarily and the fill color on the star shape (or any other shape) was changeable once again. But within minutes, drawing a different shape assumed the last fill color setting and that could not be changed. Assume the momentary fill color normalcy will return.
   An hour later and fill color is still not changeable visibly.

   This happens because the top layer has a custom appearance applied to it.

   To undo that, you’d have to target the layer again, open the Appearance panel, and click the 'Clear Appearance' button.

6. Layers are messed up, live text broken up

   File was last edited on Dec 23, 2019 - saved in illustrator 2020 .ai and .pdf formats. There were grouped layers, and live text layers.

   When I opened it today, my layer groups are all gone, and my live text has been broken up into separate layers (some mid-word).

7. too slow and laggy, small edits also end up in not responding or hanging and crashes.

   After the last update (24.0.1) Illustrator is too slow and laggy. Crashes Illustrator consistently with Can't finish previewing, small edits also end up in not responding or hanging and crashes.

8. The operation cannot be complete beacuse of an unknown error. [STEX]

   Trying to use Freeform Gradient on a more complex shape(image attached) and I get this error "The operation cannot be complete because of an unknown error. [STEX]"
   I tried making a new doc and still same issue. Some of the elements are coloured, but not all.
   System: MacOS Mojave Version 10.14.6
   Illustrator Version 23.0.6

9. Cannot activate new fonts

   I'm using Illustrator 24.1.2 with a creative cloud student subscription on Mac OS Catalina. When I try to activate any font not installed locally, the activation process will go on for five minutes, then terminate itself. No font would be installed. I Googled around for similar problems, and many suggested looking at the "Font" tab of the creative cloud app. I don't have that tab. The only tab in my creative cloud app is "Apps".

10. Artboard Size in Properties Panel Arrow Key Enlarge/Reduce Increments Incorrect After 24.1.1 Update

    As of the latest patch (24.1.1), when using the up and down arrow keys to change the size of an artboard in the Properties panel, the increments are now full inches instead of 0.1 inch increments as they were in the previous version (24.1). Is there a way to revert this behavior back? This glitch also occurred a few years ago and was fixed in a subsequent update, so I'm hopeful it can be fixed again.

    On a related note, holding control (on Windows) and using the up and down arrow keys adjust the size by 0.6 inches which I feel is a bit unusual. Is there a reason for this or a way to change it to 0.5 inches instead when holding the control key?

12. Horizontal Scroll Not Working

    Horizontal Scroll Not Working. Windows 10 HP Spectre x360 Convertible 15-ch0xx. The horizontal scroll works on other apps and on Photoshop. The horizontal scroll only does not work on Illustrator. This is a new install because I am having my macbook pro repaired because I scratched my screen. On my mac the horizontal scroll works fine. The other problems I noticed on both my mac and the new PC install is the alignment distribute input unit of measurement does not show up sometimes. If I toggle the show/hide bounding box it fixes it. Also on both my mac and PC when i select a key object without the alignment panel being open the distribute input field is not active until I deselect the key object and then re-select the key object for the distribute input field to become active for input

13. Type

    After applying a Font "size" it will change automatically when I move my mouse. This is very annoying and a big waste of my time having to go back again and again to try to get a font size to "stay" at the value I set it at. This should not happen. Fix this Adobe!

14. Exported SVG files don't work correctly in Internet Explorer 11

    If a SVG file exported from Illustrator is set as a background-image in IE11, the image will be centered in its container, and that can't be changed with background-position: left or right.

    Fortunately the solution is simple. Just have Illustrator include width and height in the <svg> tag, like this:

15. Preferences reset whenever Illustrator freezes/crashes

    Illustrator freezes or crashes 1 to 2 times a day. I use it for 8 hours a day at work. When it freezes, I have to force quit with Task Manager. I'm using 2020, and I had this exact issue with 2019. However with 2020, whenever it freezes and I force quit, once I open Illustrator again all of my preferences are back to default. These preferences include: custom Keyboard Shortcuts, the workspace, boxes that have been checked (e.g. the Preview box in Envelope Distort).

16. Scale or rotate when using preview does not work

    When scaling any object in Illustrator 2019 when using the preview checkbox the scale percentage is immediately applied to the object. So, for instance, if I enter 110% and decide that is not enough, I enter 115%. The object is actually transformed 100% AND 115%! If I press cancel, the two transformations are applied to the object, and I need to click undo twice to get back to the original.

    This happens for the rotate, reflect, and shear tools too.

17. No touchpad gestures on Windows 10 devices (with precision touchpad)

    Gestures on the touchpad are currently not supported in nearly all Adobe CC Apps, Illustrator being one of them.

    On Windows 10, there is no way to scroll diagonally on a touchpad, nor can you use a "pinch to zoom (in/out)" gesture. Scrolling is limited to horizontal and vertical dimensions, there is no panning.

    I'm using a Surface Book 2. With its touchscreen, I am able to use these gestures. On the touchpad however, this isn't possible.

    My workflow is heavily slowed down by this. I've been using a Macbook before and all gestures were supported - why isn't that the case on Windows?

    Microsoft provides precision touchpad drivers for many devices. These drivers create a great touchpad experience on any device using them. It's the way forward for Windows 10 laptops. Many programs use this, so there is no excuse why Adobe couldn't.

    I would love being able to use these gestures. They would speed up everyone's workflow significantly and create an ease of use I come to expect from all of the Adobe CC Apps.

    In Adobe XD, these gestures are available, although they are aren't smooth and a bit unresponsive. I'd suggest to fix those ones too.

18. Crashes constantly

    Illustrator crashes constantly. Typically, when pasting anything (even a single character) into an existing AI file. We have updated all associated drivers, upgraded video card, re-imaged the OS. Nothing is making this better. After a few strokes, Illustrator will gray out and report "Not Responding."

19. Locked Layers won't allow file to save

    If layers are locked, AI file won't save and close. It will continue to prompt you to save multiple times but won't allow you to close the file due to the asterisk. The asterisk will only leave if you save the file with the layers unlocked.

20. Illustrator 2020 (24.1.1, windows 10) cannot open file

    Cannot open one of my illustrator files.
    Every time I try to open it illustrator freezes and doesn't unfreeze until closed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled illustrator, restarted my laptop, tried turning off the firewall. I tried attaching it to this comment but it wouldn't load.
