Images Missing After Reopening Adobe Illustrator File
Hello Adobe Illustrator Community,
I would like to report an issue we have been experiencing with Adobe Illustrator that has caused serious problems in our production workflow.
Issue Description:
Images that were properly embedded in Adobe Illustrator files go missing after the files are closed and reopened. The images are not corrupt, and their resolution is below 500 PPI. However, upon reopening the AI file, some embedded images disappear completely.This issue does not occur in all Illustrator files; it happens randomly across different files, making it difficult to predict or prevent.

After updating my system to Sequoia 15.7.2, the text tools stopped working.
After updating my system to Sequoia 15.7.2, the text tools stopped working.
Any action I perform on the text, such as changing the size or font, produces no result. The app slows down significantly. My work has completely stopped because of this.
I have the latest version, 30.0, installed.
I tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling Illustrator, but that didn't help.
I also tried installing an older version, but the result was the same. Is Illustrator incompatible with the new Sequoia 15.7.2?Any ideas?

The gradient is not displayed correctly when moving the shape in any blending mode (e.g. Screen)
When I move an object with a gradient in a blend mode, the gradient seems to stay in place while I move it, and only applies after I release the cursor. As you can see from the screenshots, I am not moving the gradient, but rather moving the object itself.
This is very annoying; I've never had this happen before. I'm very disappointed that I updated to the new version.
Is there any solution?

Select Same Fill is disabled
I recently migrated my Mac system from iMac Retina 5k to Apple M2 Ultra Mac Studio running Tahoe 26.2. Updated my full Creative Suite (Illustrator 30.1) and all was working fine will all latest updates and all until I began to work on basic vector shapes. Seems like I cannot select any fill doing Select > Same > Fill as I did for years before. Do I need to delete my preferences perhaps? I even tried very basic shapes, 3 squares, and option to Select Same Fill is greyed out...

A very thin variable stroke appears shifted
When I reduce the stroke width to a very thin value, the stroke no longer appears center-aligned and instead shifts to one side.

Way too many anchorpoints after expanding strokes or using the 'Blob Brush' tool
Years and years ago something changed in Pathfinder commands, and when expanding the results contained many more anchor points than in the version before. I submitted a workflow and was told this could not be corrected in the next version and possibly not even in the version after that. It took years to get better, and it was still not as good as in CS2 (yes).
Now, expanding strokes or even using the 'Blob Brush' results in so, so many anchor points that an immediate 'Simplify' is required to create usable designs. Using both the 'Pen' tool and all other…3 votes -

Live text converts to outlines when copying and pasting within Illustrator
When copying artwork that contains live (editable) text and pasting it within the same document, or between Illustrator documents, the text objects intermittently convert to outlines (rendering them non-editable). This occurs with both area type and point type.
This is happening with brand new files (not old ones). Dragging from one Illustrator document to another (correctly) brings in editable text, but I've ensured no third-party clipboard managers are enabled.

Numeric fields don’t accept typed input (e.g. Stroke width) in 30.1
Reporting a UI regression in Illustrator 30.1 affecting numeric input fields.
Issue
In fields such as Stroke Width (Properties panel) and others, cannot type numeric values directly like we used to.- Arrow keys and scrubby dragging work
- Typed input is ignored (caret often never appears)
- This makes precise values (e.g., 240 pt) extremely impractical
Environment

Illustrator slow and laggy with text
When I'm trying to edit a text box, illustrator turns very slow and laggy. With a simple text box. When I try to change font size, or writting, it takes ages to assume it. And the document turns very slow.

Join tool creates bezier curves on straight lines
Windows 11 Home, 25H2
Adobe Illustrator, v29.8.4I connect straight lines together with the Join tool. In those corners I expect the lines to be straight lines on both sides of the node, but in some places I get Bezier curves. I really don't want that as this forces me to go over every node that was formed.
The next issue is that during the Join tool process it adds one node (always only one for some reason). I then have to localize it and delete it. That's very frustrating.

Bezier handle hit box too small, difficult to select and move handles
Version: 2026 desktop (mac)
Bezier handle hit area is significantly smaller than previous versions. Visual handle size does not match clickable hit area and it is sooo frustrating. It seems like you have to click on it directly in the center, otherwise it does not select and you can't adjust and move the handles. Or you end up clicking on something else.
I usually draw in 2020, as it does not have this issue, but I like that you can rotate canvas on 2026. This handle issue is driving me crazy!
Anyone else having this issue?

Tilde key for transforming patterns moves the whole shape instead of the fill clipped to it
Holding down the tilde key ~ when direct selecting a pattern filled object used to give you the option to interactively transform the pattern inside the object. It would override the transform settings for patterns and give you a live preview when transforming (move/scale/rotate) the pattern only.
This behaves different when moving the pattern in the 2025 and 2026 versions. It will move the object and the pattern and snap the object back when the mouse is released.

Text object becomes corrupted and cannot apply gradient or appearance
Illustrator on Windows 11 sometimes turns normal point text into a broken area text object.
When this happens:
- “Convert to Point Type” does not appear
- The text behaves like a text box even though it was created as point text
- The Appearance panel cannot add a new fill (button is greyed out)
- Applying a gradient turns the text completely black

Unable to open old ai or pdf files
Mac OS Tahoe, Ai version 30.1. <-- just updated 12/22/25
I cannot open complete, editable Ai or PDF files created in older previous Ai versions. A message appears that Illustrator could only partially read the file. If I continue it creates a file that cannot be edited. Opening and editing files is CRITICAL to our print shop business.3 votes -
Picking Eyedropper temporarily disables Smart Guides

In previous versions (can’t say for sure now when it stopped) we were able to aim with the Eyedropper better, when Smart Guides were enabled. In CC 2017 it works. Was quite helpful to pick color from a stroke, highlighting the object that is going to be sampled. Cool, right?
But now, I suppose with the Photoshop-style sampling rings glued on, Illustrator forgot it’s a vector program. The sampling ring should not disable Smart guides!
I somewhat get why pressing Shift might disable it, because Shift enables the 'sample by pixel' mode, and picking a color…

Fonts change after reopening Illustrator file
I created a mailer in Illustrator with around 10–12 artboards and exported everything perfectly with the correct fonts. When I reopened the same file after two days to make changes, all the fonts had changed automatically, some text had disappeared, and the layout no longer matched my earlier exported JPGs. The fonts were installed and displaying correctly at the time of the first export, so the issue only appeared after reopening the saved file. I’ve attached the before/after GIF to show the difference.
