1. Eyedropper reports "nan" or inaccurate color

   Adobe Illustrator version 29.7.1.
   When picking a color with the eye dropper from a 2x2 raster image copied and pasted from Photoshop, on certain sub-pixel positions the eye dropper will return a "nan" color, and will fill all of its preview color windows to black. That, or it will be wildly inaccurate.

4. Embedded Grayscale Image Inverts When Unembedded from Illustrator 29.8.1 and Opened in Photoshop

   I’m encountering a consistent issue with Adobe Illustrator version 29.8.1 on Windows 10 (64-bit) involving grayscale images.

   When I unembed a grayscale image from an Illustrator file and open it in Photoshop, the image appears inverted (as a negative — colors reversed). This only occurs when the embedded image is in grayscale mode. Color images do not seem to exhibit this problem.

   This behavior did not occur in previous versions of Illustrator and seems to be specific to version 29.8.1.

   Steps to Reproduce:

   Open an Illustrator file (v29.8.1) with an embedded grayscale image.

   Unembed the image.

   Open the resulting file in Photoshop.

   Observe that the image is displayed with inverted (negative) colors.

   This issue is interrupting my workflow, especially when working with grayscale assets. I would appreciate your assistance in identifying a fix or workaround, or confirmation if this is a known issue under investigation.

5. Created Dimensions change their snapping positions

   I wanted to use the Dimension tool but I’m afraid it really needs some work and can only be used when your drawing is finished.
   Here is a quite of bug that happened: I was adding another space and other dimensions. Apparently it changed my previous one with a certain angle (I didn't rotate anything though).
   I did realize at that time and can't even go back to when it was good.

6. When using a Stylus, half the time lines don't draw and the eraser doesn't work.

   As seen in the attached video, when I use my HP stylus on Adobe Illustrator my stylus is frequently not registered and nothing is drawn. You can see in the video that the lines stop appearing even when I am tracing my stylus across the page and the cursor from the stlyus does not follow, but sometimes it does and still there is no output. Also at the end when drawing the alphabet less than half the letters come out. This issue has made it essentially impossible to draw things as I need to redo/trace lines about 3-5 times before they come out clearly.

   This issue only occurs on Adobe Illustrator and even happens on the select tool, eraser, etc.

   I am currently on Illustrator 30.0, but the issue is there on all versions. I have done all updates. I am currently on Windows Version 10.0.22631. The stylus I am using is the HP Slim Rechargable Pen (HP Slim Rechargeable Pen).

   the issue happens just when doing anything, and the expected result is that the tools are used without fail and come out cleanly (as they do on other apps).

7. When moving object it counts as hundreds of inputs, filling the history

   When you move an object with the mouse, it seems to consider each pixel or so it moves as an individual input, so if you just quickly drag something, your history is completely filled and it is impossible to undo enough to undo the single move. It also shows up as 'Undo' in the history tab rather than 'move' - only the final one is considered 'move'.

8. PDF/X-4 Export Produces Non-Compliant PDFs in Illustrator v30.2.1

   In v28, when exporting PDF/X-4 via an Action or script, inserting a "Convert to Working CMYK" step into the workflow allowed consistent production of PDF/X-4 compliant files with no preflight errors.

   In v30, following the exact same workflow with identical files and the same preset now produces non-compliant PDFs. Acrobat preflight reports two distinct errors that did not occur in v28.

   Preflight Error #1 — Placed image ICC profile conflict:
   "CMYK source profile is the same as the PDF/X output intent destination profile (201 occurrences, 2 pages)"

   Cause: Placed PSD files have Japan Color 2001 Coated embedded as an ICC profile. Since the output intent is also Japan Color 2001 Coated, v30 appears to write both into the PDF in a way that triggers a conflict. This did not occur in v28 with identical source files.

   Preflight Error #2 — Transparency blend color space conflict:
   "Transparency blend color space is the same as the output intent destination profile (13,681 occurrences, 2 pages)"

   Cause: v30 appears to embed the document's transparency blend space (Japan Color 2001 Coated, derived from the working CMYK setting) in a way that conflicts with the output intent. This also did not occur in v28.

   PDF Preset Settings (X4_Johnset):
   - Standard: PDF/X-4:2010
   - Compatibility: Acrobat 7 (PDF 1.6)
   - Color Conversion: No Conversion
   - Output Intent Profile: Working CMYK — Japan Color 2001 Coated
   - Profile Inclusion Policy: Include All RGB & Tagged Source CMYK Profiles

   Both errors are absent when exporting the same file with the same preset from v28.7.10. This appears to be a regression introduced in v30.

   Is there a known workaround? Is this a confirmed bug?

   Environment:
   - Hardware: MacBook Pro 16-inch (November 2023), Apple M3 Pro, 36GB RAM
   - OS: macOS Sequoia 15.7.4
   - Illustrator version with issue: v30.2.1 (2026)
   - Illustrator version without issue: v28.7.10 (2024)

9. Stroke weights ing symbols change to random sizes

   When working with dynamic symbols, the stroke weight changes to random sizes from extremely thin almost non-existent to 1000pt - sometimes affecting a select few instances of the symbol and sometimes affecting all. This happens sometimes when saving the file and reopening, when changing fill colours of instances, when editing the original symbol (double clicking onto a symbol and clicking out), when duplicating an instance.

10. Illustrator forgets to undo the document color mode switch

    Here’s a simple test.
    1. Create and RGB-based document — the title says 'RGB'
    2. Draw something
    3. Change the color mode of the document into CMYK — the tab’s title changes accordingly (notice the History displays the generic 'Undo' instead of expected 'Document color mode CMYK')
    4. Draw something else again
    5. Start undoing steps, either with Cmd/Ctrl+Z or with the History panel. When you reach up the first object drawn, the tab’s title should display RGB — but it still says CMYK! ...and if you hover over the title, the hint appears saying it’s RGB (or not!) ...and if you draw something after this, it stays CMYK now. Ai forgets the document was an RGB one and never undoes it!

    If I try this in an older version, without History in it, like CC2017 — it works as expected.

    Here’s a simple test.
    1. Create and RGB-based document — the title says 'RGB'

11. Export for Screens won’t export artboards as a single file

    When a document has multiple artboards and is exported as PDF using Export for Screens, although all artboards are selected and a Single File option is checked, it will still be exported as multiple files.

13. Gradient panel bug

    I can't scroll in the Gradient panel like in the Libraries panel where i can see the other options or like the Properties panel when there's more options, but the space is not enough, but you can scroll so you can see the rest. And also the little panel where you can see the default styles of gradients is taken so much space and you can't minimize that space, that could be good, or just leave a line where you can see a limited or recent styles chosen but then you can click so it expands and shows you the entire library.

14. Ai2025 - The Pencil tool has become unusable again! There's no accuracy—it’s too smooth!!!

    I’m here to post about the same issue I did in 2014.
    The Pencil tool has become unusable once again! It’s smoothing too much, even on the maximum accuracy setting (left first slider tick).

    Back in 2014, when Adobe rewrote the Pencil tool, you removed the previous numeric settings and replaced them with four ticks. All of them were too smooth and took too much control over the path, leading to imprecise bubbly and smooth drawings.

    I made a post about this back then, and Adobe was super nice to respond by adding a fifth lowest left tick with the previous lowest accurate settings, which I’ve been using for nearly 20 years now: "lowest fidelity, 0.5px smoothness, 0%."

    Now, after the 2025 update, the pencil tool once again is smoothing too much, even on the lowest accuracy setting. This is making mine and my colleagues work impossible because the tool doesn’t generate enough anchor points to create the detailed and organic edge illustrations we need. Not everyone is looking to draw smooth, bubbly shapes!

    This is crucial in an free hand drawn operation such as the pencil tool because anchor points act as the resolution of the path, determining the type of edges you want to express in your drawings. The character of the edge is essential for the final look.

    Why shouldn't we have more control over the path resolution, allowing for higher values? Currently, Illustrator seems to be leaning towards reducing the resolution of our paths, limiting our creative control leaning towards more smooth bubbly or geometric style.

    Inkscape is fantastic in this regard as it doesn't limit the resolution the artist gets to add to the path. It has a numeric setting where you can set what you need. Unfortunately inkscape falls short on other aspects of the freehand pencil drawing process, for instance you can't redraw over and over again and sculpt your path with the pencil tool as you can in illustrator.

    With this post I’m requesting:

    (1) To fix the bug and bring back the ability to generate more anchor points on the path for accuracty on the lowest tick with "lowest fidelity, 0.5px smoothness, 0%."

    (2) I'm also making an additional feature request for the ability to add even more anchor points than that by adding an even lower sixth tick that generates even more anchor points, with a setting like "lowest fidelity, 0.2px smoothness, 0%."

    Alternatively, and idealy, please bring back the numeric values like you had before that allow us to set the path resolution more precisely, similar to how Inkscape still handles it.

    This won’t slow down the application in any significant way—today's machines can handle it. I've pushed Illustrator to its limits for many years, and higher resolution paths have never been an issue. There's no reason to hold back on giving users more control over the paths and the style of their illustrations.

    I would love to assist in testing it out.

15. Blending tool undo

    Whenever I undo one shape inside the blended elements, it doesn't go back to the initial position. Instead, it stops mid way and the CMD+Z button moves it back 1 pixel closer to the initial position. Moving the object is also a challenge where the second I release the mouse click, it shifts further away.

16. The object doesn’t get aligned properly

    The aligning is not working at all, the first version of the Adobe Illustrator update highlighted the artboard in use in a bold black line, please bring that back and fix the aligning.

    In the past when I export just an artboard the image name had both the file name and artboard name in it's name. Now it stopped. FIX THIS PLEASE

19. JPEGs cannot open in Whatsapp

    The File > Export > Export as > JPEG/JPG produces files that cannot be opened in the latest WhatsApp. When opened, a popup will appear saying "This file was sent in an unusual format, which may indicate that this file is malicious, corrupted, or not supported by WhatsApp. For security reasons, this file cannot be opened.

    In Illustrator, there are two types of symbols: dynamic and static. By default, when we select all symbol instances and expand them, the resulting new objects remain selected. An unexplained bug has been found with dynamic symbols:

    1. Create a dynamic symbol in a document and place its instances.
    2. Save the file.
    3. Reopen the file.
    4. Try to expand the dynamic symbol instances.

    Result: The selection is cleared from the objects, which does not happen with static symbols. If you place new instances of a dynamic symbol in the document, there is no selection loss – this only occurs with those instances that were present before the last save. This is a strange bug, and the loss of selection after expanding, in particular, makes it impossible to automate certain tasks with symbols using scripts.

    Environment: macOS, Windows 10, Adobe Illustrator various versions 2019-2025
