1. Select Unused Swatches does not select the second black swatch in Grays color group

   — Create a new Print document with default swatches.
   — Delete ALL the presets: brushes, symbols, graphic styles...
   — Now Open Swatches and run Select All Unused command from its flyout menu.
   White and Black are not selected (expected in a way).
   But notice that 'C=0 M=0 Y=0 K=100' is also not selected.
   So when all the selected swatches get deleted, this black duplicate stays, and the color group stays, and you have to delete it manually — each time.

   I tried to understand what forces Ai to keep it.
   As I said, not presets remain, and I redefine the [Default] graphic style with something else than black-and-white, and change the [Normal Paragraph Style] even — then Select All Unused swatches selects White (!) but still both black are ignored.

   Why? The second black has a different name. If any preset (which one though) still uses it — why it follows the value and not the name?

   And if this command looks into presets — why it doesn’t look into symbols? (here is the report: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/42368422)

   So what forces Ai to keep both blacks? What uses it? Arrowheads maybe?

3. Artwork gets shifted when an artboard is resized with width and height constrained and Scale Artwork Constrained enabled

   CC 2025 v29.0 introduces the long-awaited "Scale Artwork with Artboard" option. When we drag the transformation frame with the Artboard tool, the objects are scaled synchronously, and the position’s calculated properly.
   However, when we start to enter the width or height of the artboard, with Constrain locked, the objects get shifted relative to the artboard after being scaled.
   The problem has been confirmed on both MacOS and PC.

4. Illustrator prevents Mac display from sleeping due to inactivity

   When Illustrator is left open for some time, it prevents my MacBook display from turning off and locking. It also prevents the screensaver from coming on. I am 100% sure this is caused by Illustrator because I have done the following experiment twice:

   1. Change the screen saver to come on after 1 minute.
   2. Leave the Mac idle for over 1 minute.
   3. Screen saver does not start.
   4. Close Illustrator application.
   5. Leave the Mac idle again.
   6. Observe that the screen saver starts and the computer locks after 1 minute.

   After restarting Illustrator, the problem goes away for a short time but then starts again. It does not seem to be connected with having an unsaved document open. The last time I tested it, there were no unsaved files.

   Mac OS Sonoma 14.6.1
   Illustrator 2024 version 28.6

5. Hitting Escape while editing a field does not cancel the value but applies it

   I don’t know why nobody reports this...
   If I input something in a field and I want to abort and return to the previous value, I hit Escape.

   Sometimes the first Escape closes the suggestions dropdown (like in browsers), and only the second one restores the previous value.

   A LOT of apps follow this rule except browsers:
   Affinity Designer, Inkscape, CorelDRAW, Blender...
   Non-design ones too: MS Office, Google Docs, various text editors... A LOT.

   Some apps keep the value entered, but don’t apply it, and put the old one back when an object get reselected — Xara does it.

   Some apps though do apply the entered value on Escape the way Ai does it — like 3DS Max.

   Why Ai doesn’t follow the major rule about the only exception when a user-entered data is aborted, and prefers to force us to Undo?

   Only Tab and Enter should be treated as committing a value. Escape should abort entering and drop the entered value, since we neve Enter it.

   I don’t know why nobody reports this...

6. クラウドドキュメントとして保存する際にエラーが出る

   macOS 13.6.3
   Illustrator ver.28.3

   1.ILlustratorにて新規ドキュメントを作成
   2.御存ダイアログを表示しクラウドドキュメントを選択。
   3.新規フォルダをクリックし表示されるダイアログに日本語（ascii以外の文字を含む）で名前を付けて保存をクリック。
   4.3で作成したフォルダ内に更にフォルダを作成するため、新規フォルダをクリックし表示されるダイアログに日本語（ascii以外の文字を含む）で名前を付けて保存をクリック。
   5.4で作成したフォルダ内で保存をクリック
   6.エラーダイアログが表示され保存できない。

   期待した結果
   階層が深いディレクトリ構造でも正常にクラウドファイルが保存される。

   実際の結果
   フォルダ構造が多重構造である状態でフォルダ名にマルチバイト文字が利用されていた場合、クラウドドキュメントを保存できない。

   フォルダ階層が２層以上で、かつフォルダ名称がマルチバイト文字を含む場合、クラウドドキュメントの保存が失敗します。
   これはver.27.8以降で起きる問題です。ver.26以前のIllustratorでは正常に保存可能です。
   手元のテストではハイアスキーやルーン文字では保存できるがキリル文字はダメなど全てのマルチバイトがだめだというわけではありませんでした。

   Reported to be working normally in Beta 30.4.0.103

7. Scaling proportionally not working with Use Preview Bounds enabled

   Very weird issue happening at the moment. I was working on a file and realized some things which were supposed to be proportionate were not. I double checked and actually Illustrator was not scaling things proportionally!
   Video to show what happens.

   So far I've uninstalled Illustrator and re-installed it. Seems like keeping Preview Bounds off is the only thing that works. If you got any ideas please let me know :)

8. Drop shadows appear lighter in v28.1

   Drop shadows appear lighter in version 28.1 compared to previous versions.

   Applying a drop shadow and opening the same file side-by-side in two versions makes this clear. Both shadows have the same settings, files have the same colour settings and profile, and are displayed on the same monitor.

   The example images show version 28.1 and 27.9, but the change is evident between 28.0 and 28.1.

9. The ignoreWhite property of tracingOptions does not work

   Illustrator v 28.0 - Image Trace option check box for Ignore White has been replaced with Ignore Color and an eyedropper option. While I think this is a good addition for manual use, it appears to have somewhat broken the ability to use image trace properly in javascript as the change has made the original "tracingOptions.ignoreWhite = true" no longer work. I suspect there is now an additional option/variable responsible for the color to be ignored's selection but it doesnt appear to be refferenced in any of the current documentation. I've tried adding the method for Abutting (also undocumented) as to enable ignore white option. I've also tried to blindly implement an option for ignorColor to establish a color. but still can no longer use any script that depends on white being ignored from an image trace. This is a fairly sizable setback for my workflow which worked fine before the update. Any feedback on this issue (particularly if someone in the know can provide the options that now need to be set in a script for image trace to ignore white) would be greatly appreciated.

   The fix has been pushed into the latest 30.3 general release. Please update, check, and comment back if it still happens.

10. Enter while typing does not get recorded in history as an Undo step

    When I type a text in Illustrator and hit Enter to make a paragraph break, it does not get recorded into the history as an operation I can undo. This means all typed paragraphs get clumped in history together and get undone as a whole.

    This is not how many other apps do, including InDesign and Word.

    Some apps also consider line breaks as an interruption of flow, which would have been handy too.

    Please try to update and see if this is really fixed.

11. Pressing Backspace in text gets recorded in History as a chain of separate Clear steps

    When we type a text, Ai treats it as one operation, all the time.

    Many languages have pre-hyphenated words (like 'pre-hyphenated').

    When I setup Hyphenation with Before and After values, I expect Illustrator to apply these to each part of a hyphenated word, not to the whole complex word itself, like Ai does in the picture (where the arrow is pointing). Instead, it should prefer the existing hyphen to break a line at, not just one symbol away from it. This forces users to use 'no break' often (which is hard to call) and generally spend more time on editing.

    Here is a text example.

    but
    pre-
    hyphenated

    ...and obviously it can’t be fixed with a discretionary hyphen. First — it does not force Ai to redo the flow, and the hyphen should be there all the time, and not only on breaks...

14. Crash after moving complex artwork outside the artboard

    I'm testing the new release (27.2 on MacOS) before the whole company can safely move to the new environment. I basically can crash the whole software in a few seconds. What I need to do is:

    1) I need to open a big file - I've used files 23.5 MB, 43MB, 64.7 MB, 15.1MB (the files have been created in previous versions of Illustrator ).

    2) Turn on wire view in Illustrator (command + Y)

    3) select with lasso all points that are on the artboard

    4) switch to select tool (V)

    5) Start to move objects outside of the artboard. Within 1 to 10 moves Illustrator crashes.

    I'm going to test the same files on PC with Windows on both Illustrator 27.2 and 25 and I will share my observations with you

    PS I'm not using a Wacom tablet, I'm not using any tablet

15. Illustrator does not omit spaces in values in inputs, unlike in InDesign

    Just like it is demonstrated in this post: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cnv5bcuIOrt/
    Unlike in InDesign, where we can accidentally make this:
    '21 |mm' → '21 0|mm' and get '210 mm' as a result, in Illustrator it goes like this instead:
    '21 |mm' → '21 0|mm' → '21 mm'
    It just doesn’t understand what an aiming mistake is. Makes little sense, since it can’t be anything but that, so no punishment, please.

16. Alt/Opt clicking into the spectrum bar in Color panel now changes both fill and stroke on release

    When I hold Alt/Opt and drag the cursor over the spectrum bar, I am able to change the color of the inactive attribute — in this case stroke, since fill is activated. However, as soon as the mouse button is released, the fill gets changed to the picked color too! This was not the case in the the previous version.

17. When a plugin is removed, the toolbar which had its tool gets completely empty

    If for some reason I get a plugin removed form the Plugins folder, Ai wipes the entire tool panel which had the tool associated with the removed plugin.

    Even worse — when a plugin is returned back to the folder, Ai won’t restore the panel! It stays completely broken and empty. Each next launch Ai seemingly restores it, but the next launch it’s empty again. Resaving the panel does not help.

    So you have to rely on backups — manual backups, because, again, Ai fails at properly backing up these automatically.

18. Layer's options display 'Dim Images' turned on when it's off

    1. Go to Layer Options
    2. Enable 'Template' option
    3. Uncheck 'Dim Images to' option
    4. Hit OK
    5. Go to Layer Options again
    6. 'Dim Images' is on by itself, despite I turned it off in step 3

    The issue is no longer happening in Ai Beta 28.4.0.2

19. Isolate object doesn't work at all inside Envelope's 'Edit contents' mode

    When you edit contents of an envelope distortion, using the dedicated button in Control to do so, Isolation is not possible. I somewhat understand what technical difficulties are behind this, but... this feature is not new. You should have completed it way long ago. It’s sad to see when integration between native tools is poor and unpolished.
    I need to isolate whenever I need to, within envelopes, compound paths, type characters.

20. PNG import broken

    Illustrator 25.4.8. (on macOS 10.14.6) can't import PNG files any more. For PNG files that have already been placed in previous versions, Illustrator reports a broken link and doesn't allow to relink. (PNG import worked fine in the previous version of Illustrator.)

    If this issue still happens for you, please share a PNG image that Ai fail to place. You can do this directly in the comment or send it over to sharewithai@adobe.com if you are not allowed to share it publicly.

    There is a separate report on failing specifically with 1-bit PNGs you can upvote also, if it’s your case.
