1. text handling still a mess in 22.1

   Text handling in the 22.1 build - meaning the interactions between the Paragraph, Character, Paragraph Styles, and Character Styles panels - is still fraught with bugs and/or undesired oddity compared to previous versions. (2015.3 being the last completely -- or mostly -- working version.)

   ---

   Open Illustrator 22.1 (Windows) and create a new blank document.

   Draw a text box and fill it with placeholder text.

   Create a new paragraph style (‘body text’) and set the font, size, and leading to something different from the default. (e.g. font: 10pt Avenir LT Std Book, 16pt leading).

   PROBLEM 1: Select a word or words in the text and change the style (by pulling down the list in the Character panel) to (for example) ‘Black’ instead of ‘Book’. The selected text leaps to 12pt/14.4pt leading, though it does stay in the chosen font.

   PROBLEM 2: Undo. The selected text reverts to Avenir Book, but stays at 12pt/14.4pt.

   PROBLEM 3: Undo a second time. The selected text goes back to the original state (Avenir Book 10pt/16pt), but the entire block of text is now selected (?!?).
   Deselect.

   WEIRDNESS: Select a few words, and change the style (again, to Black), but this time do it by clicking in the Style box in the Character panel and scrolling through the values via the mouse wheel or the up/down arrows – not by pulling down the menu and making a direct selection. The text correctly changes style without changing its size.

   Delete the entire text box. Draw a new one. Make sure the ‘body text’ style is selected in the Paragraph Styles panel and fill with placeholder text.

   PROBLEM/WEIRDNESS: The text displays in the correct style (Avenir Book 10/16), but in the Paragraph Styles panel the ‘body text’ line has a ‘+’ after it, indicating that the text doesn’t match the saved style in some way. Also, in the Character panel, the leading shows no value (empty space) in the control. And the pulldown menu in the Paragraph Styles panel has ‘clear overrides’ dimmed out...

   Further WEIRDNESS: If one then selects some words and opens the Leading pulldown menu (in the Character panel), it shows 16pt as the first item in the list (above ‘Auto’ and the list of default sizes), with a checkmark... it just isn’t displaying inside the text box.

   Close the document and Illustrator.

   Start Illustrator and create a new document.

   Draw a text box and fill with placeholder text. Click outside the box to remove the keyboard focus (and cursor) from the contents, but leave the text box object itself selected.

   Create a new Paragraph Style in the Paragraph Styles panel, called ‘body text’, font settings ‘Avenir Book 10/16’.

   WEIRDNESS: The displayed text updates correctly, there’s no ‘+’ after the style name in the Paragraph Styles panel... but the Character panel still shows ‘Myriad Pro Regular 12/14.4’. De-selecting the text box and re-selecting it gets the Character panel to update (‘Avenir Book 10/16’).

   ---

   Start Illustrator and create a new document.

   Draw a text box and fill with placeholder text. Click outside the box to remove the keyboard focus (and cursor) from the contents, but leave the text box object itself selected.

   Create a new Paragraph Style in the Paragraph Styles panel, called ‘body text’, font settings ‘Avenir Book 10/16’. Deselect and reselect the text box to get the Character panel correctly updated.

   Select a few words. Then, in the Character Styles panel create a new character style called ‘italic’. Set the font to Avenir, Book Oblique, but do not touch the size or leading boxes.

   Close the dialog box and click the character style name to apply it to the selected text.

   Select an entire paragraph (or several) that includes the italicized text. In the Paragraph panel, change the size/leading to, say, 8pt/20pt. Everything works as it should.

   Deselect everything and double-click the ‘italic’ style name in the Character Styles box to verify that the style displays no values in the size or leading controls, nor in the text summary, implying that size/leading are not specified and will not be affected/overridden by this character style.

   Select the previously italicized text. The character style name shows as ‘italic+’ indicating that the selected text doesn’t match its character style definition, even though it should.

   PROBLEM: Select some other text in the same paragraph. Click ‘italic’ in the Character Styles panel. The selected text changes size to 10/16, even though the size was explicitly not specified as part of the Character Style definition.

2. PNG export with specific font look broken

   When I export any file as PNG / JPEG which included type the font become broken/blur.

   I am not sure how can I overcome this issue i tried from different accounts and computer as well but is still the same.

3. Typing French

   I am having an issue typing French accents in Illustrator. For some reason the accents are not appearing above the letter but beside it. ê is how it should look but in illustrator the accent would be to the left of the e. Am i doing something wrong? option + i then the letter... etc

4. Slow Type Performance

   I just recently updated to 22.1 running on Windows 10. I have a list of names that was copied from two columns (first name, last name) that was copied from an Excel spreadsheet. I'm trying to remove the tabs between the columns and replace them with spaces. Once I hit the backspace key it takes approximately 5 seconds to perform the backspace and another couple of seconds to add the space. This is a list of several hundred names so it is unmercifully crippling. Other operations outside of type are somewhat laggy but not nearly as bad. I cleared out all of my nonessential fonts already, restarted my machine, and the problem still persists. I'm not seeing performance issues in any of my other programs. I tried closing all documents and pasting the text onto a new doc all by itself and still get the same thing. This is seriously leaving me hamstrung on a time sensitive project.

5. text edit

   Editing text in Illustrator 2019 is so difficult -- there's a heavy lag, and it is incredibly frustrating. This is size 12 font, small file -- there is no reason why editing this text should be lagging, and I've noticed others having the same problem. Please fix this ASAP!

6. Type on Path Issue

   After I apply type on a path (circle) the circle isn't a circle anymore.

   Circle without type on a path: Same height, Same width.
   Circle with type on a path: Different height, Different width.

   I never had that issue before, after i apply text on a path (circle) the circle has still the same height & width values, why not now?

   Please update adobe illustrator in January 2019

7. Cannot paste text from Chrome to Illustrator

   I use Wrike within Google Chrome for workflow and am given copy to use in various graphics. Since updating to 23.0.3 Illustrator does not paste from Wrike/Chrome. When I restart illustrator it sometimes goes back to normal but then randomly it will stop working later on

   When I select a type section and attempt to resize it Illustrator applies the edits to a different area of type.

9. Type On A Path text not sticking exactly to path

   When Type On A Path is applied to a circle, some type is input, and the type is rotated by effect (not permanently), the type no longer stays on the path.

10. Illustrator will not use Verdana.ttf

    Made PDF from Bridge using Verdana.ttf. Open PDF in illustrator on same mac and it will not see the Verdana fonts, wants to change them to an OTF version which is not even on my system. Causing numerous issues since my client just changed to Verdana for universal access documents.

11. Cannot Scale Images or Text

    As I'm illustrating on Illustrator, I cannot scale images or text suddenly. I would uninstall and re-install the program to get rid of the bug, but it keep returning randomly. I do not hit or click on any key or button to make this happen. Every time is comes back on its own unprovoked.

    It happens on both my work and home macbook.
    A text box, for example would be too small for the copy inside it, but I cannot expand the box because the box seems to be frozen in its exact shape.
    I can drag the box anywhere in the document, but I cannot scale it.

12. Sentence case deletes first letter of each line.

    I use the change case multiple times daily, since I frequently receive text content in all caps. I recently started using Illustrator CC 23.0.2. Anytime I use (specifically) the "sentence case" option it deletes the first letter of each (paragraph) line. It's extremely annoying. I have to open InDesign to do it and change it there, then bring it back into Illustrator.

13. Font style descriptor repeated in the Font's name

    I just created and exported a new font using Glyphs app.
    While I was testing it, I realize how the style descriptor "Regular" appeared in the name as well.
    Tried to fix this with Glyphs support as long as I discovered it's this way only on Illustrator.
    No repetition on Photoshop or other non-Adobe apps.
    Problem goes away if I have 2 or more styles, but other single-styled fonts (like Impact) don't have this repetition.
    Might be a bug?

14. "Create Outlines" is causing text to move from its original position !

    When outlining text in artwork to send to the printer, the text moves from its original position by a fraction.
    This is catastrophic for finished art purposes.
    Dealing with misaligned print can be hard enough without the file being off from the beginning.

15. Cursor disapears when against text frame

    Cursor can not be seen when at the beginning of a sentence as it blends in with text box. Please make text cursor larger/wider.

16. Asks me to login to Creative Cloud when I try to "Find Fonts"

    When I try to search for non-native fonts that I've downloaded after opening a file from a non-Adobe cloud program, it says I need to go to "Help" and log in to Creative CLoud. When I go to "Help", it says I'm already signed in. Restarting the program and trying again does not fix the problem.

17. Unwanted spacing when hitting certain keys

    Mac OS 10.14.1 running Illustrator 23.0.2
    When entering text, certain keys will make the cursor skip around, not allowing the proper formatting of the text.

    I was trying to type G. Echinulata, and when I got to 'n', the cursor skipped backwards, separating the first and second part of the text. Using an upercase 'N' seems to work as expected.

    I've experienced this with lowecase 'n', and 'f'.

18. spell check english

    My Illustrator is set to default language English USA but it always does spell check in Spanish. I make sure that it is checked for English in the character tab, but even after changing it to English, my spell check goes back to Spanish. I am running Illustrator CC 2019, 23.0

19. missing fonts logged in error

    When I open a document with missing fonts, the 'resolve missing fonts' screen keeps telling me I'm currently logged out of Creative Cloud, and to go to "help/log in". This despite the fact I'm logged in, and going to "help" shows my account name and logged in status..

    We are unable to reproduce this issue in house.
    Can you help the Illustrator team to isolate this issue further so that we can nail this down?
    If yes, then please let me know the following:
    1) Is this Issue still happening on your machine in the Latest version 23.0.3 ?
    2) If yes , Kindly follow the steps mentioned on the Kb Article "https://helpx.adobe.com/in/fonts/kb/troubleshoot-font-activation.html

    If they don’t solve the problem, collect the logs as per instruction in the troubleshooting page and email to fontsupport@adobe.com and support@typekit.com .

20. Certain font styles are missing, like Montserrat Bold, Arial Bold, Myriad Condensed, etc.

    I have ITC FrizQuadrata installed. This font family has 4 styles: normal, italic, bold and bold italic.

    AI CC2017 does show all four.
    CC2018 shows only one — 'ITC'.

    It doesn't show it when you type family name, it doesn't show other styles in drop-down style list.
    If I copy/paste text with needed font family style from 2017 to 2018, AI will show me two identical font names but two different preview near them (and again no italics).
