2. STAR-tool en Shear-transformatie in Illustrator 2025

   Shear-transformatie vervormt TORX-vormen gemaakt met STAR-tool sinds recente update.

   Sinds kort ondervind ik problemen bij het gebruik van de STAR-tool in combinatie met de Shear-transformatie in Adobe Illustrator 2025. Ik gebruik deze tool regelmatig om TORX-vormen te maken (ster met 6 afgeronde punten). Vroeger kon ik deze vorm probleemloos transformeren in perspectief met de Shear Tool. Nu leidt dezelfde handeling tot vervormde en onbruikbare resultaten.

   Ik heb dit getest op een nieuwe computer met een verse installatie van Illustrator 2025. Het probleem lijkt te ontstaan wanneer afgeronde hoeken (live corners) worden toegepast. Na het toepassen van Object > Expand Appearance werkt de transformatie zoals verwacht, wat suggereert dat het probleem te maken heeft met hoe Illustrator omgaat met live effecten.

   Stappen om te reproduceren:
   1. Maak een ster met 6 punten via de STAR-tool.
   2. Rond de hoeken af via het Properties-paneel.
   3. Pas een Shear-transformatie toe.
   4. Observeer de vervorming van de vorm.

   Verwacht gedrag:
   De vorm zou in perspectief moeten worden gezet zonder vervorming, zoals in eerdere versies van Illustrator.

   Huidig gedrag:
   De vorm vervormt op een ongewenste manier, waardoor het resultaat niet bruikbaar is.

3. Holding down 'Alt' for distance measurement prefers clipped content to clipping mask

   The distance measured is the object in the mask, not the mask.
   Cannot measure distance when the object is within the mask object.

4. Recolor doesn’t allow to change white or black with a first try

   I use the Recolor (color mixer / wheel) daily. I have come across an annoying bug.

   Some base colors will be automatically 'locked' in the color mixer, indicated by a '-'. For example, let's say I'm trying to turn white into red.
   - First, white needs to be unlocked. By clicking the '-', it will become an arrow '->', and the swatch should be toggle-able now.
   - The first time you toggle the white, it selects, sliders can be moved to make it red, but it doesn't stay adjusted; it reverts back to whites.
   - You need to click another random swatch, then go back to the white swatch which now accepts being toggled to red.

5. [ExtendScript] Cannot set TextRange.justification to value in ParagraphStyle

   We cannot successfully set textFrame.textRange.justification to the value in the applied ParagraphStyle.

   For example, if the text has [Normal Paragraph Style] applied, which for me has Justification.LEFT, then I cannot set that text to have Justification.LEFT in cases where the justification has been changed.

   (Tested on MacOS 15.4.1 Adobe Illustrator 29.5.1, but this appears to be an old bug.)

   Steps to reproduce:
   1. Create new document
   2. Run the below script

   Expected Result: all tests passed and no alert message appears.

   Actual result: Failed to set textRange.justification to LEFT.

   Script:

   Additional note: in the link above, users discovered that performing a resize on the textFrame somehow removes the blockage and Justification.LEFT can be set afterwards. Perhaps it breaks the link to the paragraph style?

7. Contextual Task Bar and Help Bar don’t have hotkeys and these can’t be assigned

   When I check Keyboard Shortcuts, Menu Commands, Window, I can find Control, Properties... but not Contextual Task Bar or Help Bar. So we can’t assign hotkeys for these and call these from keyboard when needed.
   Seems like someone forgot to include these slots for customization. Please expose these.

8. 3D Materials Panel Causes Much Longer Document Load Times

   Regarding the 3D Effects Panel in Illustrator, it seems to take nearly 20 seconds when launching a new document if in the previous session the Panel was active. If the 3D Effects panel was not active, then the document loads much faster. It would be great to have Illustrator handle the load time better.

   I'm using Illustrator version 29.2.1 in MacOS WITH Sequoia 15.2 on an M4 Pro 48GB RAM.

9. Embedded font previews get substituted when pasted as a vector smart object in Photoshop

   In some case, when opening the files, the app does not inform there are missing fonts. They're still displayed like the font is already installed in system. When I copy and paste into Photoshop (as vector smart object), the text is replaced by other fonts automatically without any announcement.

10. The blue "new feature" dot on the Pencil tool isn't going away in a secondary toolbar.

    I have a tiny little toolbar that is nothing but the Draw Above/Below/Inside indicator and the current tool. It'd just be the Draw Location widget but apparently you have to show the current tool in every toolbar. A lot of the time I work with the main toolbar off and just this up.

    Switching to another tool and back doesn't clear the blue dot, even though I've checked the Pencil's settings and seen the new options, and the dot's vanished from the main toolbar.

    The blue dot does go away if I close and restart Illustrator so it's not like this is a major bug but it just makes me feel itchy.

11. Curvature tool does some funkiness when clicking on a point of a different object

    Curvature behaves weird when you click on another object (related to https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/44830828--corner-anchor-points-become-smooth-when-joining).
    But I'm not trying to join the objects, just click on it. It works fine if you click on the path of the second object, but if you click where an anchor point is it joins the two objects together at the point you click and the first anchor point of what you clicked off of. It also deletes all corner points of the object you clicked on.

12. About the Pencil Tool and Image Tracing in version 2025

    The accuracy of the path conversion for the pencil tool has decreased in version 2025. Even if I change the settings to fine, it is converted to a coarse path, and I cannot express the details like in previous versions. Please improve it as soon as possible.

13. Fonts not showing after update to 29.8

    Intermittent issue there are only a handful of basic fonts avaible to choose from (myriad, arial and a couple others) where as I have thousands installed.
    Have downgraded to previous veriosn of illustrator for now (29.7.1) and it works again fine

    Zuher, please provide more information. Record a video, provide a test file or specific steps if there are specific actions needed, mention your OS and hardware details, the version number, so that the team could try to reproduce the problem at their side.

15. I can't see any shapes I have created inside and outside the artboard, even when I have not selected any preview options

    I am not able to see any shapes, I created inside and outside the artboard. I made sure that none of the preview options are selected, still after zooming in and out whole shapes are disappearing from the illustrator software.

16. Illustrator sometimes reports the font is not installed but then finds it on its own

    Boa tarde, há uns dias abri um documento que dizia que o tipo de letra estava ausente e hoje ao abrir dizia que já tinha o tipo de letra utilizado naquele texto. Sendo que não instalei a fonte nem passei nenhuma ficheiro da mesma de um pc para o outro, podem dizer-me se isto é normal ou se há algum bug no vosso programa?

17. Swatches Info doesn’t work for the only swatch selected

    If you only have 1 swatch selected you can’t create a Swatches Info from the Swatches panel’s menu. The only way to make it work is to make it 2 colors, select them and create the object, and then remove the unneeded color card from it manually.

18. Acrobat PDF File Format error when saving .AI documents. The size of the passed callbacks struct is wrong.

    Illustrator 30.0 (64 bit.) windows 11 recently loaded then I updated to 30.0. since then 99 % of the time I open my current .AI files to update them and save them, I receive this error which I can't fix. The only way to bypass it is the save to the downloads folder and then over write the original unsaved file with the new version. This is affecting my production time, so it is quite urgent. It could be a setting but as I don't understand the message I can't fix it.

19. Quit making fonts unavailable (Neuropol)

    Almost every time that I open my menus and logos the fonts that I use are no longer available. I used the same Neuropol font for my menus and logos for 14 years before going to the cloud-based software. Since going to cloud based software I have had to resolve the missing Neuropol font to a slightly different variation at least 4 or 5 times. Not only is it annoying and time consuming, it is causing inconsistencies in my brand, and with this current update, it does not work at all.

20. Unidentified dash / gap values get shown as zeroes

    Make a simple test (as demonstrated in the attached GIF).
    Make sure you test this after relaunching Illustrator.
    Open Preferences > Units and make sure you have all three parameters (General, Stroke, Type) set to Points.

    A. Create a new document based on Web document profile
    B. Create a simple rectangle
    C. In the Stroke panel enable Dashed Line option

    The first 'dash' value would be 12 pt (or somethin else if you general units are not points), and the rest of the fields would be empty, undefined. It means Illustrator uses the same 12 pt for the gap.

    D. Now create a document using Print profile
    E. Create a rectangle
    F. Enable Dashed Line once more

    Looks the same, right?

    J. Go to Preferences again and change the General units to Millimeters.

    Look at the dash-gaps values — for some reason all values but one are now zeros!
    While it might SEEM like 'whatever', it’s actually not, and this bug was not present in CS6.

    K. Here’s why it’s a problem. Create a duplicate of this rectangle and tab through all the dash and gap fields in the Stroke panel, confirming these zeroes for real.

    Now you have a rectangle with the same exact values Ai had before, but it looks completely solid!
    And if you select the original one — it suddenly has only the first value dash set, and not all of them.

    So Ai just lies.
    For some reason when units get toggled (and it’s common when you work in both media at the same time), Ai puts 'zeroes' — but it doesn’t mean 'undefined'. This was working fine in older versions (I checked CS6).

    This causes us to believe the dash settings are not what they are.
    And while it seems like rare occurrence — no, it happens regularly, and it sucks.

    Please fix it.

    Make a simple test (as demonstrated in the attached GIF).

    Seems like it was fixed in both PreRelease build 30.5.0.160 and Beta build 30.6.0.27. The values are no longer forced to be zeroes, and only the first input gets the default value, as expected.

    Please update and test if it works as it should.
