PROBLEM Mixing and changing swatches colours in the file...
We are currently designing on about 250 designs witch we have in the same file as different art boards. In the swatches panel we have created two different groups of colours (each group has 8 swatches). We design in each art board (for example Art 1) with one of the group colours (lets name it A). When we finish colouring Art1 we copy the design in the next art board Art2 and now we colour it using the other group (lets name it B). Glitch signs introduced by illustrator when opening a plot created by R
Hi everyone,
I mainly use Illustrators to manually edit plots/figures created by R (a statistical programming tool). R creates PDFs which can (normally) be opened and edited using Illustrator.
However, I recently encountered a strange bug. My plots look just fine when I open the PDFs using Acrobat Reader, but they contain glitch signs instead of points when I open them using Illustrator 2023.
I am attaching a (zoomed in) picture showing these symbols. If anyone can help, that would be very appreciated :).
1 voteThe problem got resolved with changing the font manually in the imported PDF. However, it does not explain the problem completely. Please comment if you have new information on this.

Scaling appearance with Transform Effect doesn’t work as expected
MacOS 12.6.3
Illustrator 27.2Applying scaling transform effect with “Transform Objects” checkmark OFF
and “Scale Strokes and Effects” and “Transform Patterns” ON
doesn’t work properly in some cases, for example:
irregularities in dash/gap lengths are introduced when scaling dashed lines,
arrowheads are not scaled at all,
pattern brushes are not scaled at all,
art brushes are scaled partly (the unstretchable bits are not scaled while the main shaft is scaled).I would expect the same result as with Scale dialog box with the same settings — this one works perfectly. I want to replicate it as an appearance effect.

Edges of a fill are rendered rough and innacurate
Smaller circle is roughen, not smooth. This is really annoying since I'm working on a logo for a client and it has to be precise.

Place individual PSD layers into Illustrator as LINKED files like InDesign
Placing individual psd layers in Illustrator is a joke compared to Indesign.
When trying to place a linked and layered psd file in Illustrator you get NO 'options' (even when 'options' is selected in the dialogue box when placing/importing.)
You have to have 'link' turned off in the dialogue box in order to see the 'options' and even then the psd layers just come in as embedded shapes WHICH AREN'T linked but embedded instead. When you then unembed/link them, NEW .psd files are then created instead of linking back to the original .psd files.

Slopes of anchor points corrupted after opening PDF file
When I open a PDF in Adobe Illustrator that was created in Adobe Photoshop, the slopes of the anchor points of a shape are corrupted. The interpolation between the anchor points doesn't seem to work properly at some point, see screenshot "Illustrator-Photoshop-Comparison.jpg". As a result, the shape looks deformed and egded, as if drawn with a shaky hand.
I don't know if it's due to the export from Photoshop or the import in Illustrator. The PDF is displayed correctly in Adobe Acrobat Pro. When I open the Photoshop PSD file in Illustrator, the paths are correct.
Does anyone know this…

freeze on save
I have consistent problems with Illustrator 27.2 hanging/lagging (becoming entirely unusable, with any action resulting in a ca. 10-second wait) following saving. This seems to happen only if I happen to switch to another open window/program while saving is in progress. This has only been happening w/in the last few weeks, so perhaps connected to a recent update? The only way to correct the problem is to quit and restart Illustrator (even shutting down the individual file isn't sufficient). It happens whether or not I'm using an external monitor.
I'm on a 2022 14" MBP, 16 GB RAM, Ventura 13.2

Numeric keypad not functioning properly in AI v27
When trying to type in numeric values in the swatches, it will change as you type the default back to "zero". I've gone back and forth between v26 and v27 and it appears to be working fine in 26. It is pretty much anywhere you have to type in numeric values.

Color guide options reset to default on Illustrator restart
- Windows 10 22H2 build 19045.2486
- Illustrator 27.2
- Open Color Guide Options from Color Guide panel -> customize Steps and/or Variation value -> close and open Illustrator
- Expected: Color Guide panel remembers options Result: options reset to default values (4 steps, 100% variation) so you have to re-enter them every time you start Illustrator

Crash after moving complex artwork outside the artboard
I'm testing the new release (27.2 on MacOS) before the whole company can safely move to the new environment. I basically can crash the whole software in a few seconds. What I need to do is:
1) I need to open a big file - I've used files 23.5 MB, 43MB, 64.7 MB, 15.1MB (the files have been created in previous versions of Illustrator ).
2) Turn on wire view in Illustrator (command + Y)
3) select with lasso all points that are on the artboard
4) switch to select tool (V)
5) Start to move objects outside of the…

All user interface text is replaced with "[?]"

[Bug] "Print As Bitmap" (unchecked) checkbox is not honored.
When I uncheck "Print as Bitmap", it is not honored at all, in any circumstance:
a) In the Summary, it gaslights me.
a) When I press Done and reopen, it's checked again.
c) When I print, the graphics come out jagged, which tells me it is being processed with Print as Bitmap.I'm on AI Version 27.2, just updated.

Bounding boxes disappeared
Since updating to Version 27.2 all the bounding boxes have disappeared. To resize objects I can only put numbers in the Height and Width text boxes or click and drag individual anchor points with the Direct Selection tool. There is no way to click and drag an entire object to resize it. Late yesterday, even the anchor points disappeared, but closing and reopening Illustrator brought them back.

Color UI won't stop auto filling in shapes with a last used color
I don't know if this is a bug or not, but ever since updating to Illustrator 27.2, the color picker in the color UI (after holding shift + click) won't stop auto filling in selected shapes with the last applied color used to fill in a previous shape. This is very frustrating and significantly bogging down workflows.
Running on MacOS Monterey version 12.0.1 using Illustrator version 27.2

Dragging grid repeats to fill artboard
Every time I drag the repeat to fill the artboard, Illustrator crashes and I have to reopen. Impossible to complete the piece. v27.2 Windows 10. All up to date and been happening a while.

Selecting and moving points
When I select a curve that has another element behind, and then try to select a point to move it, most of the time I end up selecting and element behind this point (another curve or layer). So to avoid this I end up locking all element except the one I'm working on it, if I don't end up loosing a lot of time doing this point selection over and over...
My guess is you should establish some virtual lock while this moving operation are happening, or some priority hierarchy...

Converting Text to Outlines no longer creates Simple Ungroupable compound path.
When converting text to outlines in Illustrator 27.2, the text becomes transparent, contained within a clipping mask, and ungroupable.
Previously, the text would become a grouped compound path of the same fill color as it was as text. I could easily ungroup it.
I now have to release the clipping mask, release compound path, and use the shape builder tool to fix the letters with holes in them that are now filled in (letters such as R, B, b, O, o, e, etc...
I am using Windows 11
Could not attach .ai file. Kept getting "could not submit feedback" error…

Illustrator does not omit spaces in values in inputs, unlike in InDesign

Unlike in InDesign, where we can accidentally make this:
'21 |mm' → '21 0|mm' and get '210 mm' as a result, in Illustrator it goes liek this instead:
'21 |mm' → '21 0|mm' → '21 mm'
It just doesn’t understand what an aiming mistake is. Makes little sense, since it can’t be anything but that, so no punishment, please.10 votes
