1. Template Layers Still Visible on Export for PNG and JPG

   I am creating a logo package for a client and am attempting to export multiple logos / graphics with transparent backgrounds using the export panel. I've already confirmed multiple times that my PNG settings include transparency and that the View > Overprint Preview setting is unchecked. My background layer is set to non printing, however any PDF or PNG I export includes a visible background layer. I can completely hide this layer to avoid exporting it, but then I can't see my artwork correctly. The whole point of non printing layers is to see them when you are designing without exporting them. I am using Illustrator 29.1 and am on an iMac running Ventura 13.7.2.
   I've been using Illustrator for over 10 years and non printing layers have always worked. The fact that these layers are showing up in both PDF and PNG exports indicates that it's a global transparency issue and not a file type setting. I've read every thread I can find and tried every setting possible and cannot get non printing layers to export with transparency. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

2. Eyedropper cursor blinks while held

   If you pick Eyedropper tool and hold it to sample a color continuously — it blinks, jumps, tries to change into a default pointer arrow.

   Happens on both Windows and Mac.
   And so you know it can work better and some other succeed — compare it with the way Affinity Designer does it (the second GIF).

3. Edit Contents button in Control panel ignores the scope and always prefers the layer-level clip to the selected object-level clip

   In Illustrator we can make object-lelvel clip groups, by selecting objects and using Make Clipping Mask command.

   We also can apply a clipping mask directly to a layer if we select a path for a mask only, highlighting the layer we need to clip in Layers, and using a different Make Clipping Mask command, from the panel’s flyout menu.

   But then, if we select the object level clipping group and decide to select its clipped content, using the dedicated button in Control panel, it will ignore the scope and the intention and prefer to select the clipped layer’s content — which is everything in it, rendering this button useless.

   Why does creating a clipping mask for a layer requires highlighting it in Layers, but the same approach is not respected for using Edit Contents button?

   Be consistent and fix it, please.

5. Opacity set with an action does not match appearance of opacity set manually

   When trying to select multiple objects with the same fill color and opacity, selecting one of them and under the Select menu choosing Same > Appearance will add all the same fill and opacity objects to the selection.

   However, when creating an object via an action and setting the fill color and opacity to match the objects to be selected, Select > Same > Appearance returns no results.

   Manually selecting multiple objects in addition to the object created with the action shows "Mixed appearances" in the Properties panel. Individually selecting each of the objects shows the same attributes. Selecting multiples of manually created objects all show the same appearance properties. Adding an object with the same attributes but which was created via an action shows "mixed appearances."

   Here are the steps to repeat:

   Make a new, blank document.
   Start recording an action in the Action panel.
   Record yourself making a new rectangle with the Rectangle tool.
   Set the Fill to Black, and the Stroke to None.
   Change the Opacity in the Transparency panel to 20%.
   Stop recording.
   Move that frame to the side.
   Manually create a new rectangle, using the same steps as above.
   Under the Select menu, choose "Same > Appearance."
   You should see the previous rectangle you made included in the selection.
   Your Properties and Attributes panels should contain the same information for both objects.
   Now run your action you just recorded in the Actions panel.
   Choose Select > Same > Appearance.
   Note that nothing else gets selected.
   Manually select the rectangle created by the action plus either of the ones created manually.
   Note the Attributes panel now says "Mixed Attributes."

   You recorded yourself making an object with certain attributes. You played back that action and according to every panel it has the same attributes as the one you previously created, but you cannot use Select > Same > Appearance to select them both because the appearances are "Mixed."

   The only way to work around this is to create a Graphics Style with the attributes (opacity, fill) being searched for. Then an object can be created with an action, the action can assign the Graphics Style, and then Select > Same > Appearance will find all of the objects with the same fill and opacity (even if those objects do not have the Graphics Style applied).

   When trying to select multiple objects with the same fill color and opacity, selecting one of them and under the Select menu choosing Same > Appearance will add all the same fill and opacity objects to the selection.

6. [ExtendScript] TextFrame cannot be selected after creating

   In script, after creating a new TextFrame it cannot be selected the first time.

7. 「ドキュメントの描画モードを分離」を適用したIllustrator形式ファイルを配置すると中身が表示されない

   1. 新規ドキュメント上に適当に図形を描画、描画モード（乗算など）を設定する。
   2. ドキュメントの描画モードを分離を設定してIllustrator2020形式（PDF五感）で保存する。
   3. 新規ドキュメントを作成し、先のドキュメントを配置する。
   4. 配置されたドキュメントの内容が表示されず、空白のドキュメントを配置した状態と同様にある。

   期待する結果
   配置ドキュメントを正常に描画する。

   実際の結果
   配置された「ドキュメントの描画モードを分離」を行ったIllustrator形式ファイルは内容を正常に表示できない。

   回避方法
   Illustratorドキュメントに配置する場合Illustrator形式ファイルではなく別途PDFを書き出せば配置は可能ですが、データによってはPDFが意図したとおり書き出されない場合があります。
   基本的にはドキュメントに対してのこれらの処理は行わずに個別に調整するのが無難です。

   ここでは「ドキュメントの描画モードを分離」を行ったドキュメントについて報告しましたが、「ドキュメントのグループの抜き」が適用されたIllustrator形式ファイルも同様の問題を抱えています。

8. Entering a range value in PDF Import Options dialog doesn’t enable the range option

   Recently Illustrator added an option to import a previewed page from PDF Import Options dialog.

   However, when we enter a range value in the input field below, we expect the Range field to get activated, and get the range imported. Illustrator doesn’t do it, and we get the previewed page imported instead, ignoring the entered data.

   So now this dialog is broken the other way.

   What’s interesting — InDesign does not allow to enter the range value unless we pick the option... and this is a shared behavior actually, Ai indeed disables secondary controls for a disabled option — we can see it, example given, in Preferences > Clipboard Handling section, for AICB option (screenshot attached).

   So in this case the team hacked the dialog, so a user can enter a value without making an additional click, I suppose.

   And this hack works once, as shown in the second GIF: if we choose the Range option specifically, but then enable Previewed Page or All, the Range field gets disabled.

   I like we can enter the value instantly, but don’t like it means nothing.
   If you decided to make it this way, make it work in full, please.

   Doesn’t happen in latest build of Ai, the Range field is now inactive unless the option is picked

9. 1-bit PNG images can’t be placed, an !IMP error is given

   When trying to place a 1-bit image on canvas, Ai either does nothing if it is drag-n-dropped, or throws an !IMP error message, like the attached image shows.

   The other image is the one to test the problem with.

10. Clipped objects outside of the clipping mask get highlighted with Smart Guides enabled

    With Smart guides turned on, the Selection tools see individual items inside the mask (even though when then clicking it only selects the mask). This behavior is also not desirable as it makes selecting objects really tricky.

11. Tracking of the first character shifts the alignment of the next tab stop

    When tracking is applied to the first character of a text frame, the alignment of the next tab stop will be shifted from the correct position depending on the amount of tracking.

    Only the tracking of the first character and the next tabstop are affected, not if kerning or akiRight is applied. After the target tab stop, the position will be correct.

    This bug seems to have occurred in Illustrator 2020, as it is not reproduced in Illustrator CC2019(23.1.1).

    Environment

    • macOS 12.7.3(Apple Silicon)
    • Illustrator 2020(24.3.0)〜2024(28.5.0)

    Steps to reproduce

    1. Open the attached file trackingtabstop2019.ai in Illustrator 2020 or later
    2. Tries to edit the text in the text frame in it
    3. The engine of the text frame created in Illustrator 2019 is updated and the text is shifted

    Expected result

    Text position does not change; there is a right-align tab stop at 50pt, so text is aligned there.

    Actual result

    The text aligned to the tabstop is shifted to the tail direction.

    最初の文字にかかったトラッキングが、次のタブストップの揃え位置をずらす

    テキストフレームの最初の1文字にトラッキングをかけると、その次のタブストップの揃え位置がトラッキングの量に応じて正しい場所からずれます。

    影響があるのは1文字目のトラッキングと次のタブストップだけで、かけるのがカーニングやアキを挿入 (右 / 下) の場合は影響しません。対象のタブストップ以降は正しい位置になります。

    Illustrator CC2019(23.1.1) では再現しないため、2020でこのバグが発生したようです。

    環境

    • macOS 12.7.3(Apple Silicon)
    • Illustrator 2020(24.3.0)〜2024(28.5.0)

    再現手順

    1. 2020以降のIllustratorで、添付ファイルtrackingtabstop2019.aiを開く
    2. その中にあるテキストフレームのテキストを編集しようとする
    3. Illustrator 2019で作ったテキストフレームのエンジンが更新され、文字がずれる

    期待する結果

    文字の位置は変わりません。50ptのところに右揃えタブストップがあるので、文字はそこに揃います。

    タブストップに揃えている文字が末尾方向にずれます。

12. Bug: exporting SVG's via exportFile(fileObjSingle, ExportType.SVG, svgOptions). has completely changed since 28.4

    (macOS & Windows, latest versions) Beginning with Illustrator 28.4, SVG files exported via Javascript are in a very different format.

    The following examples are exported with:

    doc.exportFile(fileObjSingle, ExportType.SVG, svgOptions);

    The SVG option for the format of the SVG is STYLEELEMENTS.

    See attached captures for the differences.

    There are many many changes:

    • the style definitions are handled differently
    • ID's now strip out characters like / or < instead of replacing them with entities
    • the original names are included via data-name tags
    • the comment from the 2nd line is now gone
    • clipping paths are handled differently

    I have built a complex program over many years that depends on special characters in the SVG ID's, and it is now completely broken.

    Does anyone know how to get back the previous SVG export format?

    Does anyone know if this is a bug that will be fixed?

13. Drag and Drop from Photoshop Not Working

    Illustrator Version 28.3, Photoshop Version 25.5.1

    Attempting to drag and drop a layer from photoshop into illustrator and the object is not appearing in illustrator. I can usually do this with no issues. I've tried rasterizing and making the image a smart object but nothing seems to fix the bug. This has just been an issue within the past 2 days.

14. Dimension Tool Options dialog always uses points for Offset and Extension fields, even though document units differ

    Dimension Tool Options respect my chosen Type and Stroke units, but ignore General units, when I open Options dialog or Properties.

    If I choose, say, millimeters for my document, I want to define offsets end extensions in millimeters as well, not points.

    Does not help if I set these in Document Setup as well.
    Please make these consistent!

15. Dash offset defined by a negative strokeDashOffset value is not respected when a stroke is outlined

    Illustrator has a strokeDashOffset property that sets the indentation of the first stroke in the dashed line.

    It works when specified through the script, but there is no similar field in the interface of dashed line settings, i.e. it looks like a hidden functionality. It’s still legal and it works, but at the same time, a dashed line created with this parameter cannot be outlined correctly using standard Illustrator tools when the value is negative.

    It's a cursed property: it's a pity to ignore it, and it's a shame to use it because of its unreliability.

    Please fix the bug and make the Expand Stroke to respect the setting.

16. Width tool started work weird after update 27.9

    After this update, width tool on closed shapes instead of acting like they are shapes with continuous edges, it cuts the width at a point.

    I use width tool a lot and this is problematic.

    Oh and in some cases width point not showing.

    The bug is fixed in the latest public release 28.0.

    Please check and reply back if it now works as expected.

17. Export for Screens does not remember color model format settings for JPG 100, JPG 80, etc.

    When Illustrator is closed, it forgets the color model that was chosen for exporting JPEGs with Export for Screens.

    For reference of how this setting is accessed:
    File > Export > Export for Screens
    Then in the Formats area, click the gear icon.
    In the column, select any of the JPG formats (JPG 100, JPG 80, et cetera).
    Then there is a drop-down labeled "Color Model" that allows you to choose between CMYK, RGB, and grayscale.

    If you select RGB then click "Save Settings" it will remember the setting while Illustrator is open. But when you close Illustrator, and open it again, the setting will be reverted to CMYK when you are working in a CMYK document.

    This is rather annoying for me because I work in the exhibit design field and graphic layout are intended for print (CMYK) but often need to be visualized in 3D models which require RGB images. So exporting to RGB is essential and having to change the setting frequently adds more hassle to the process.

19. プロパティパネル等のテキストボックス内のテキストが切れる

    macOS11.6.8・Windows10Pro 21H2
    ver.27.5

    プロパティパネル等のテキストボックスに入力の際、テキストがボックス内に収まらず数値を確認しずらい。環境設定でUIスケールを小さくすると表示はましになるが、一部がテキストボックスのエッジにかかってしまう。UIスケールを大きくするとベースラインが大きくシフトし上部が３割程度隠れてしまう。

    再現手順
    1.ドキュメントを開く
    2.プロパティパネルを開き、ドキュメント上のオブジェクトを選択する。
    3.パネル内のテキストボックスの数値の上部または下部が切れて表示される。

    期待する結果
    各テキストボックス内の数値が切れずに表示される。

    現状
    テキストボックス内の数値が切れて表示される。

    これは、以前からの不具合でUIの設計が元々欧文フォントで行われ、ローカライズの際に日本語フォントに置き換えた際に日本語フォントに最適化されない事が原因ではないかと考えます。以下のコミュニティーページに参考になる情報があります。

20. Can't Delete User Defined Swatches

    I can't seem to find a way to delete my user defined swatches (or brushes) from the adobe library. Even when i look in my Mac Library folder I can't find where they are stored to delete them that way. I've tried saving over them with new ones by the same name but that just duplicated them. It would be nice if there was an easier way to organize + delete swatches, but I feel like Adobe makes a lot of features unnecessarily complicated.
