2. Color dropdown gets drawn in the top left corner of the screen when first called

   When first called, the color dropdown appears in the top left corner of the display. The second call renders it where it should be. Also (not noticeable in the video, since Sharex doesn’t record clicks) — I had to click the chip twice to make it appear.

3. Illustrator no longer keeping custom layer colors. Layer colors revert to black

   In recent Illustrator builds, custom layer colors applied to layers are not being saved with the document. When reopening the file, all layers that used custom colors revert to black, regardless of the original assignments. Default layer colors still persist correctly.

   Steps to Reproduce:
   Create a new Illustrator document.
   Add multiple layers.
   Assign custom RGB colors to the layers (not from the default layer color list).
   Save and close the document.
   Reopen the document.

   Expected Result:
   Layers retain the custom colors assigned to them.

   Actual Result:
   All custom-colored layers revert to black, while default colors are preserved.

   Impact:
   This breaks workflows that depend on a standardized layer color scheme (e.g., manufacturing, prepress, or complex multi-step production). Users can no longer rely on Illustrator to persist custom colors across sessions.

4. Real Time Drawing & Editing will not turn off for drawing shapes

   When I have Real Time Drawing & Editing turned OFF, shapes (rectangle, ellipse) still show up filled while drawing, instead of just the vector outline as expected.

   Steps to recreate:
   turn off real-time drawing & editing
   select random fill color
   select shape tool
   draw shape

   expected result: only vector outline is seen during drawing
   actual result: filled shape is seen during drawing

   I tested this and found the same behavior on both my Windows 10 desktop and my Windows 11 Laptop, both running Illustrator 29.8.1 (64-bit).

   There is no problem when moving an object, that still displays the vector outline as expected.

   Fixed and works as it should do in Beta 30.0.0.72 — please try to install it (or update if it’s installed) and verify if it works for you, before it gets pushed into General build.

5. Illustrator uses 100% CPU, sustained, even when idle and no documents open

   I've observed many times that when Illustrator (29.7.1, on macOS 15.6) is idle in the background, it's running a 100% CPU task. Even if I close all of its open documents, the CPU use is at 100% CPU, and stays there until I quit.

6. New Artboard Paste in Front Fails and Select Artboard Fails in Artboards panel

   Illustrator 29.6.1 - Mac
   When starting with more than one artboard.
   If you select all objects on an artboard. Copy.
   Then make a new identical artboard in another position to the artboard you copied artwork from, you cannot select the new artboard and paste in front.
   I suspect it is a bug how illustrator keeps track of how many artboards it has because the name is always artboard [number] and the new artboard number in the name is always incorrectly one higher than the actual number.
   You can no longer select an artboard in the Artboards panel and select objects you create on the new artboard using Select All on active artboard.
   This creates a problem in Extendscript or AppleScript because you can no longer set the active artboard correctly and have it display properly even with redraw. This bug does not occur in 29.5

   Illustrator 29.6.1 - Mac

7. Can't Save multiple artboards as a Single File PDF from Export for Screens in 29.6

   Even though the single file option is checked, multiple artboards will not be saved in a single file, but as separate PDFs.
   This worked in previous versions.

8. Allow to change scale and precision, show/hide units for existing dimensions

   Once dimension is created, we can’t change some parameters of it: scale, precision, units displayed.
   We can open Dimension Tool Options and change these for NEW dimensions, but both Properties and Control don’t allow to modify existing ones.

   The only thing we can do is change these parameters, create a new dimension and then hit 'Apply to all' button in Quick Actions section in Properties (which should be a menu command as well: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/49010378) — but what if we don’t need to change ALL the dimensions, but only some?
   Another thing is to delete a dimension and recreated it (but what if I have hundreds of these on canvas already?)

   Once dimension is created, we can’t change some parameters of it: scale, precision, units displayed.

9. Can’t place an object between unfurled groups in Layers

   If you have two groups unfurled in Layers — good luck in positioning an object between them in Layers. Any spot you drop it in will move it into either group, like the first attached GIF shows.

   And if the object is originally within a group, you’d have to move it outside first, collapse both groups and only then put it in-between... when you have a complex layer structure it can be very painful.

   Unlike in Photoshop (GIF 2), Send Backwards / Send to Back won’t move the object outside of the group, and dragging the layer to the left side of the tree doesn’t work s well — in Photoshop it just works, in Illustrator we get the 'forbidden' cursor.

10. Color picker picks a color behind the OK button

    When using the eyedropper in Color Picker, when you click OK it samples the color behind the OK button instead of the one selected with the eyedropper.

11. ダイレクト選択ツールの動作がおかしい - Direct Selection Tool can’t move points with Snap to Grid enabled

    ダイレクト選択ツールの動作がおかしいです。(English below Japanese)
    「グリッドにスナップ」がONの状態で、グリッドに沿っていないオブジェクトの辺やアンカーポイントをダイレクト選択ツールでクリックしようとしても選択できません。また、クリッピングマスクを施した画像に関しては、「グリッドにスナップ」がOFFの状態であっても、マスクの辺やアンカーポイントを選択できません。
    このようなことは以前は発生していませんでした。なお、環境設定をリセットしても直りません。

    使用OS：mac OS Sequoia（バージョン15.3.2）
    Illustratorのバージョン：29.4

    The direct selection tool is not working properly.
    When “Snap to Grid” is enabled, clicking on an edge or anchor point of an object that does not follow the grid will not select it correctly. Also, regarding clipping masks, even if “snap to grid” is disabled, the edge or anchor point cannot be selected.
    This troubling event had not occurred before. Resetting the preferences does not fix the problem.

    OS: mac OS Sequoia (ver.15.3.2)
    Illustrator: ver.29.4

    The team says it’s fixed in Prerelease build 29.6.191.

    The fix is now scheduled to be pushed into the upcoming general release. If you are a part of the PR program, please check if it works.

12. Swatches Info doesn’t work for the only swatch selected

    If you only have 1 swatch selected you can’t create a Swatches Info from the Swatches panel’s menu. The only way to make it work is to make it 2 colors, select them and create the object, and then remove the unneeded color card from it manually.

    Ai Beta now allows creating Swatch Info for one swatch only

13. Transform Each records angles for gradients in a way Eyedropper cannot pick them

    Take a look at the test file attached and the GIF with the steps.
    1. All gradients have zero angle
    2. Select All and call Transform Each dialog
    3. Set an angle (I chose45°) and disable Transform Objects — this should rotate only the fill, not the paths. Apply.
    4. Check the angles with the Gradient panel, the values is displayed as correct.
    5. Create a new rectangle and set its appearance to the default one with D hotkey
    6. Pick the Eyedropper toll and make sure both Appearance options are enabled in its options (otherwise it shouldn’t work at all: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/37272676)
    7. Pick the fill from a rectangle with the rotated fill.
    8. The angle is not picked.

    The problem seems to be similar to the one that happens with any script that tries to deal with rotated gradients... Script can read the parameter, but can’t write it. The common rotation method is used, and it gets written as a transformation matrix, I presume, and it is more generalized than just rotation, it can be anything likes skewing.
    And Ai can’t automatically convert a simple one into the rotation.

    Please address both issues.

    Take a look at the test file attached and the GIF with the steps.

14. Measure tool / Info panel does not show area for for many things

    Recently Measure tool started to calculate are for selected / clicked objects, originally requested here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/33527584

    However, it’s very basic.
    1. It does not show an area for objects with no fill
    2. No area for objects within a clipping mask
    3. No area for the visible area of a clipping group as a whole
    4. No area for an opaque raster image (not that hard to multiply two values)
    5. ...or for a partially transparent raster image (again, we can evaluate this manually, by using a fill + Outline Object trick)
    6. Nothing for meshes, live text, symbols, compound shapes...

    Finally, the Info panel requires you to pick the tool to start showing the area! Perhaps you should just show the area at all times?

15. Properties Panel Content Missing in Illustrator v29.3

    Description of the Issue:

    After upgrading to Illustrator v29.3, the Properties panel no longer displays its full content. For example, when selecting a rectangle, the panel only shows "Rectangle" and "Quick Actions," while other expected options are missing. This issue persists even after clearing the cache, resetting preferences, and restarting the application.

    I downgraded to v29.2.1, and the Properties panel worked as expected. However, when I upgraded back to v29.3, the issue reappeared, confirming that this is specific to the v29.3 update.

    System Information:

    • Operating System: macOS 15.3.1
    • Adobe Illustrator Version: v29.3

    Steps to Reproduce:

    • Upgrade to Illustrator v29.3.
    • Open an existing file or create a new one.
    • Select an object (e.g., a rectangle) and check the Properties panel.
    • Notice that the panel does not display the full options as it did in v29.2.1.

    Expected Behavior:

    The Properties panel should display all relevant options for the selected object, as it did in v29.2.1.

    Actual Behavior:

    The Properties panel only shows limited options (e.g., "Rectangle" and "Quick Actions") and does not display the full range of properties for the selected object.

    Request for Assistance:

    Please investigate and address this issue in a future update. If a workaround is available, I would appreciate guidance on how to resolve this while using v29.3.

    This is expected to be fixed in the latest Pre-release build 29.4.0.130. If this fix is going to be stable enough, it’d can be pushed into the next GA build.

16. Eyedropper cursor blinks while held

    If you pick Eyedropper tool and hold it to sample a color continuously — it blinks, jumps, tries to change into a default pointer arrow.

17. Edit Contents button in Control panel ignores the scope and always prefers the layer-level clip to the selected object-level clip

    In Illustrator we can make object-lelvel clip groups, by selecting objects and using Make Clipping Mask command.

    We also can apply a clipping mask directly to a layer if we select a path for a mask only, highlighting the layer we need to clip in Layers, and using a different Make Clipping Mask command, from the panel’s flyout menu.

    But then, if we select the object level clipping group and decide to select its clipped content, using the dedicated button in Control panel, it will ignore the scope and the intention and prefer to select the clipped layer’s content — which is everything in it, rendering this button useless.

    Why does creating a clipping mask for a layer requires highlighting it in Layers, but the same approach is not respected for using Edit Contents button?

    Be consistent and fix it, please.

19. Opacity set with an action does not match appearance of opacity set manually

    When trying to select multiple objects with the same fill color and opacity, selecting one of them and under the Select menu choosing Same > Appearance will add all the same fill and opacity objects to the selection.

    However, when creating an object via an action and setting the fill color and opacity to match the objects to be selected, Select > Same > Appearance returns no results.

    Manually selecting multiple objects in addition to the object created with the action shows "Mixed appearances" in the Properties panel. Individually selecting each of the objects shows the same attributes. Selecting multiples of manually created objects all show the same appearance properties. Adding an object with the same attributes but which was created via an action shows "mixed appearances."

    Here are the steps to repeat:

    Make a new, blank document.
    Start recording an action in the Action panel.
    Record yourself making a new rectangle with the Rectangle tool.
    Set the Fill to Black, and the Stroke to None.
    Change the Opacity in the Transparency panel to 20%.
    Stop recording.
    Move that frame to the side.
    Manually create a new rectangle, using the same steps as above.
    Under the Select menu, choose "Same > Appearance."
    You should see the previous rectangle you made included in the selection.
    Your Properties and Attributes panels should contain the same information for both objects.
    Now run your action you just recorded in the Actions panel.
    Choose Select > Same > Appearance.
    Note that nothing else gets selected.
    Manually select the rectangle created by the action plus either of the ones created manually.
    Note the Attributes panel now says "Mixed Attributes."

    You recorded yourself making an object with certain attributes. You played back that action and according to every panel it has the same attributes as the one you previously created, but you cannot use Select > Same > Appearance to select them both because the appearances are "Mixed."

    The only way to work around this is to create a Graphics Style with the attributes (opacity, fill) being searched for. Then an object can be created with an action, the action can assign the Graphics Style, and then Select > Same > Appearance will find all of the objects with the same fill and opacity (even if those objects do not have the Graphics Style applied).

20. [ExtendScript] TextFrame cannot be selected after creating

    In script, after creating a new TextFrame it cannot be selected the first time.

    Note: this only seems to happen with a TextFrame. PathItems, for example don't show this bug.
