Slow Type Performance
I just recently updated to 22.1 running on Windows 10. I have a list of names that was copied from two columns (first name, last name) that was copied from an Excel spreadsheet. I'm trying to remove the tabs between the columns and replace them with spaces. Once I hit the backspace key it takes approximately 5 seconds to perform the backspace and another couple of seconds to add the space. Text lost when updating text of old version
Illustrator CC 2018.(No problem before 2017)
Updated text disappears when opening a file of old data such as version 10 or lower by a specific operation and updating the text portion.・Prepare and open files of version 10 or lower
・To confirm whether to update the legacy text on the warning screen, click [OK] to not update
・Save immediately
・Open the saved file
・Click on the legacy text part with the mouse
・On the warning screen, click [Update]

「文字間のカーニング：オプティカル」のテキストに「タブ」パネルで「タブ位置」と「リーダー」を設定しても、タブの位置で文字が揃わない。
MacOS Monterey（12.7.4） + Illustrator 2024（28.4.1）
再現手順:
1. テキストオブジェクトに文字パネルで「文字間のカーニング：オプティカル」を設定する
2. 「タブ」パネルで「タブ揃え」、「タブ位置」、「リーダー」を設定する期待された結果:
指定したタブ揃え・タブ位置でテキストが揃う実際の結果:
指定したタブ揃え・タブ位置でテキストが揃わない回避方法:
・テキスト中のタブのみに「オプティカル」以外のカーニングを設定する
・タブを設定したテキストでは「オプティカル」以外のカーニングを利用する「オプティカル」以外のカーニングを利用すれば回避できますが、フォントや文字の内容によっては「オプティカル」を使いたいこともあります。その都度タブのみに「メトリクス」等を設定するのは手間がかかります。また、「リーダー」に記号等を設定しなければテキストは揃いますが、それではタブの機能を利用する意味がありません。
InDesignにも同様の機能がありますが、カーニングの設定が何であれテキストの位置はタブ位置で揃います。
ユーザーの工夫で回避するのではなく、Illustrator側が改善すべき挙動だと考えます。---Use translation tools---

When using optical type feature, since the update it displays the type as if it has no spaces?
Running version 25.3 on illustrator.
16.21 indesign.
Since updating me and a few people i know who also use the software across indesign and illustrator have seen when using the optical type feature, it displays the type as if it has no spaces? Type treatment is thrown off to what is traditionally correct. Please fix this! This will have a massive knock on affect with branding agencies if rules are changing regarding such simple things.

Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.

縦組みのアキ量設定が水平比率の影響を受ける
ver.22以降（確認できた範囲）
macOS 10.13〜11.6.7（確認できた範囲）縦組みのテキストに対して「アキを挿入（右・下）」を設定した上で水平比率を操作するとその比率に応じてアキ量が変化する。
- テキストツールにて縦組みテキストを入力する。
- 文字パネルにて「アキを挿入（右・下）」を設定する。 3.. 当該テキストに対して水平比率を設定する。
- 文字の縦幅は変わらないがアキ量が水平比率に比例して増減する。
期待する結果
縦組みのアキ量は水平比率の影響を受けない。実際の結果
縦組みのアキ量設が水平比率の値によって変化する。回避手段
アキ量設定を使わずにトラッキングによる調整を行う。これは単純なバグです。縦組み時に水平比率を調整しても文字の天地は変化しません。しかし、アキ量（上・左）、アキを挿入（右・下）ともに水平比率の値の影響を受けます。横組みと縦組みを同様に処理していると考えられます。

テキストの半角スペースに点が現れる
Ver 25.3.1 windows
25.3.1にバージョンアップすると突然テキストの半角スペースにピリオドが現れました。
1. テキストに半角スペースを打つ
2. テキストに線幅を入れて縁取りにする
3. その線の線端を丸型線端にするするとスペース部分に点が現れます。テキストをアウトライン化すると消えますが、そのままPDF書き出しすると残ります。

ご報告いただいた「ver.25.3.1 でテキストに丸型線端の線幅が追加されると、半角スペースに点が表示される」問題を修正した、Illustrator 2021（ver.25.4.1）を一般リリースいたしました。
Creative Cloud デスクトップアプリケーションから、製品版のアップデートが可能となっておりますので、動作をお確かめください。

Variable Font not working properly
Hello, I am a type designer and am working on a variable script font. The variable font file work fine everywhere else except in Adobe products.
It appears the sidebearings aren't adjusting with the changes in width. Very odd. You can see whats happening in the first file. The second is on the Axis Praxis website.
I've spoken with Glyphs App developers and they said it's a glitch with Illustrator, so I wanted to bring it to your attention.

Freeze on First File Opened if it has Missing Fonts
Illustrator CC version 22.1
OS: Windows 10 Pro, version 18031) Launch Illustrator
2) Open Ai file
3) If the first file I open after launching Ai has missing fonts the program freezes before it populates the missing fonts dialogue box. I have to force quit the application from task manager and relaunch.Any subsequent files that are opened after the first file do not have this issue regardless of missing fonts. Ai crashes (hangs) after installing (and selecting) Google Noto Color Emoji font!
Since Ps has added NCE (Noto Color Emoji) font, Ai doesn't recognize it! I downloaded the font from GFont (NCE v2.038). After installing (for "All users"), whenever I select the NCE font in Ps or Ai, those apps crash (hang)!
If I uninstall the font (which I downloaded from GFont, not the Ps native installed one) and reinstall Ps, the font works OK, but again it doesn't appear in the Ai font list!

和文組版の横組み文字列中の文字回転
Illustratorの日本語組版で、横組み文字列中の1文字を回転すると、文字が上下・左右に暴れて表示されてしまいます。
※縦組み中ではそういった不具合は観察されません。
添付ファイルのように検証してみましたが、その回転の際の原点あるいは挙動原理などがよくわかりません。
例えば、添付ファイル右下のように補正してみても、同じファミリー内でウエイトを変更しただけでもその補正値は変わるようです（平均字面が関係している？）。
和文書体は、（欧文ベールライン位置や平均字面は様々でも）基本的には正方形の仮想ボディに納められていますので、仮想ボディの中心を回転の原点としていただければ、このような補正の手間がなくなるのではないだろうか？ と考えられます。
挙動を変更していただければ、作業者の負担も軽減されるでしょう。なお、このような「横組み文字列中のひと文字を回転する」という処理は、あまり日常的にすることではありませんので、既存ファイルへの影響も軽微なものであろうと考えていますが、変更していただくならば、【その変更を周知】していただくことは大切なことだと申し添えておきます。

Area Type text stretching when transformed with another shape
When I transform an Area Type text box using the handles, it resizes the Area and the type fits according to paragraph settings - which is what I want from Area Type — (first part of video).
But if I transform at the same time as another shape, selecting both at the same time - the type resizes like point type, stretching and scaling with the box, which is not how area type should behave - (second part of video).
So I can't transform an Area Type text box at the same time, for instance, as a holding shape that…

Type on Path Broken - Can't Resize
Not sure if this has been reported yet or not. When I use the type on path tool and try to resize it the type's center point is moved and/or the kerning is thrown way off. See the video for an example of what's happening.
The only way I can get around this is making a copy of the object so I can save an editable version, then outline the text on the other version so I can resize. This is a MASSIVE pain.

Discretionary hyphens do not seem to work
I can’t get discretionary hyphens to work in Illustrator CC 23.0.2, either by Shift-command -- or with Type > Insert Special Character > Hyphens and Dashes > Discretionary Hyphen. Whether Hyphenate is turned on or off for the paragraph does not matter. Language does not seem to make a difference either.
Only the hyphens added by Illustrator itself are obeyed.16 votes -
Glyph rendering bug with non-empty space char on OT-SVG fonts
The space character is not rendered consistently when it includes an SVG glyph:
- The glyph is invisible by default
- But - as expected - it is visible in full color when moving the text object, and in greyscale version when switching to Outline mode

Сonverting a type object from Area to Point replaces soft breaks with paragraph breaks
Illustrator's 'Convert To Point Type' should not change soft line breaks to paragraph breaks, as the GIF shows.

Text on path gets selected when you marquee over empty space
When I need to select something under the arc, like it’s shown in the GIF attached, I can use marquee and the the type object gets selected.
Why?
Did I click the path? No.
Did I click the text? No.

1.新規ドキュメントを開き任意のテキストを入力し日本語OTFフォントを指定する。
2.「ファイルプレビュー用に許可されたフォントを埋め込む」チェックボックスをONにして保存して閉じる。
3.指定したフォントをアンインストールする。
4.先のドキュメントをIllustratorで開く。
5.プレビュー用に埋め込まれたフォントが表示に利用されない。期待する結果
埋め込まれたフォントを利用してオリジナルの体裁が表示される。実際の結果
ドキュメントのDictionaryに含まれる「Embeded Font Binary Data」にはエンコードされたフォントが保存されるが、ドキュメントを開いた際に利用されない。いくつか検証しましたが、WesternフォントやCJKであってもTrueTypeであればプレビュー表示されます。AdobeFontに含まれる日本語フォントやモリサワのOTF等がドキュメントに含められているにも関わらず表示に利用されません。

Words get broken when hyphenation is off with no hyphens
Illustrator (since a long ago) has a habit of breaking words in area type texts when it should not. Take a look at the test file and watch the attached GIF.
As you can see, the second word is a long one, and Ai for some reason breaks it — although Hyphenate is off (and the language is properly chosen).
No hyphen also is displayed at the end of the line, the word is just split.
If we toggle the Composer from Single-Line to Every-Line, Ai at first correct the tracking and fits the word... but once the container is…
14 votesIt turns out the file in the original report has a singular Latin 'o' mixed into the Cyrillic text, and this makes it break without a hyphen.
The font team notifies that Unicode standart prescribes to not break between two scripts that use spaces as word breaks, so this problem can fixed sometimes later, when the team revises their reflow strategy.
As for now, be notified it’s a very narrow case, and is a good sign that your text has homoglyphs in it.
