  1. Unidentified dash / gap values get shown as zeroes

Make a simple test (as demonstrated in the attached GIF).
Make sure you test this after relaunching Illustrator.
Open Preferences > Units and make sure you have all three parameters (General, Stroke, Type) set to Points.

    A. Create a new document based on Web document profile
    B. Create a simple rectangle
    C. In the Stroke panel enable Dashed Line option

The first 'dash' value would be 12 pt (or somethin else if you general units are not points), and the rest of the fields would be empty, undefined. It means Illustrator uses the same 12 pt for the gap.

  3. Align / Distribute ignores Constrain Angle

The Align and Distribute options do not take into account the Constrain Angle setting when the Constrain Angle is not equal to zero. In simpler terms, the Constrain Angle for Align and Distribute is always set to zero.

  4. Unable to catch error that occurs when exporting empty artboard to PSD

    en_US

When exporting Illustrator artboards to PSD using ExtendScript's exportFile, if the artboard does not contain valid PageItems, an error occurs and two alerts are displayed.

    ![error1.png](error1.png)
    ![error2.png](error2.png)

The problem is that this error cannot be caught by a try syntax. It will stop the batch process with alerts.

Also, if app.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevel.DONTDISPLAYALERTS is used to prevent the alert, it is not possible to provide detailed information to the script user as to why the artboard was not exported.

Ideally, the design should be changed so that the error can be caught, or even an empty artboard can be…

  5. Mixed stroke colors become white when changing fills using CMYK spectrum in an RGB document

There is a way to make objects loose their stroke colors in specific conditions.
    1. Create an RGB document
    2. Create two shapes
    3. Make them have same fill color, but different stroke colors
    4. Select both
    5. In Control panel Shift+click the arrow button next to the fill chip, to call the alternate UI with sliders and spectrum instead of Swatches view
    6. In this dropdown panel’s menu pick CMYK

    Strokes become white.

This does not happen if the color mode in this panel is left RGB or HSB.
Also, strokes become white if you pick a color in…

  6. Alt + Shift hotkeys for menu commands in the latest version are broken

Any keyboard shortcut that uses both Alt and Shift sends Alt only when pressed.

So if you have a 'Alt + Shift + T' hotkey assigned to something, pressing it will open Type menu instead ('Alt + T').

Also, a hotkey that uses F-key with a modifier launches an action that is assigned to F-key without modifiers, but not the command.

I have an action that uses F3 for launch.
Then I make a new keyboard shortcut for a menu command, assigned to Alt+F3.

I expect to run the command when I hit Alt+F3.
Instead, Ai does not launch the…

  7. Illustrator often fails to build a smooth blend for paths with mismatched number of anchors

Take a look at the file attached and watch the images attached.
Two curves are blended: one has 4 anchors, another one has 5 anchors.
The blend Ai build has weird irregular slits in the middle.

If you expand the blend and select problematic anchors, you’ll see that positions are correct, but some handles get interpolated wrongly.

This happens often in many other scenarios.
The current workaround is to add more points to blend, trying to guess and control which point get paired with another.
Another workaround is to cut curves in pieces and blend in chunks.

The 3d panel has a scrollbar, but the image trace hasn't.

  9. An object with a freeform gradient fill makes the coloring control in the tool panel switched to None

In the tool panel we have three indicator buttons, which show the current type of fill/stroke for the selection — Fill, Gradient, None.
Illustrator switches it to None, when an object with a freeform gradient fill is selected.

I can understand why it probably happens. Since freeform gradients are not technically gradients, and using this mode converts an object into a dynamic container for generating a triangular mesh, it makes sense for Illustrator to not display the proper indicator here — the container has no fill... but it makes no sense for a user. It is you who decided it’s…

  10. Pressing Ctrl/Cmd+Enter in Color field no longer adjusts other color values proportionately with live color preview since 27.1.1

Prior to 27.1.1, when live color changes were made, we were able to use Ctrl/Cmd+Enter after changing a value to proportionally move all other sliders, which is an equivalent of dragging a slider with Ctrl/Cmd key held.
The face the preview is now live should not kill this old feature., since Ai surely can remember previous values.

  11. A group with no appearance attributes is treated and marked like it has some

    1. Create two objects (e.g. rectangles)
    2. Group them
    3. Open Appearance panel
    4. Add a stroke to your group
    5. Remove the stroke (with the Delete Selected Item button)
    6. Open Layers panel and study the appearance 'ring' marker of the group — Illustrator now believes the group has a custom appearance, while there is none!

If you click the Contents in the Appearance panel with the group selected, Illustrator will clearly say 'Group: No Appearance' in the top of the panel.

This 'empty' appearance can be saved as Graphic Style even and applied to another object, giving no actual result, except for the 'solid…

  12. An action set can’t be dragged into the topmost position

For some peculiar reason an action set item can’t be dropped at the top of the list in Actions panel, like it’s shown in the GIF attached. To workaround this, you have to put it second, and then put the first one after it.
    Minor, but still a bug.

  13. You can't import actions by dragging .aia file into Illustrator

We can run a script by drag-n-dropping it into Illustrator.
We can open files like this.
We can’t load an actions set by dropping an .aia file into Ai, even if we snpe the Action panel specifically. We are forced to use the panel’s menu, Load Actions command and the system dialog. Too clunky for the modern times.

  14. Free Distort effect ignores Drop Shadow effect within

If a Drop Shadow effect is above a Free Distort effect in the Appearance panel (which means the shadow gets applied after the distortion) — it works fine.

However, if we first have a shadow and then try to distort the object which casts it (the Free Distort is below the Drop Shadow in Appearance) — the vector geometry gets distorted, but the shadow stays orthogonal and immune to the distortion.

Not a very popular workflow, I know, but still.

  15. Discover panel’s videos don’t have Full Screen button

OK, I am a new user and want to use Discover to make some learning.
Illustrator shows me the video of steps I need to perform.
How on Earth am I going to view these that small, if I am not familiar with the UI? What good do they make being shrunk like this?

Also, when you try to see maybe the cog button has something useful, the video covers the menu. Just great.

And even if you find the 'Read article in a browser' link, it’s somewhere deep below, and you have to scroll all the way down.
    Good…

  16. Export for Screens via ExtendScript is slow and appears to have stopped

    Description:
When I run Export for Screens via ExtendScript, it slows down and looks frozen. The rainbow cursor will appear.

It actually works, and will finish if I wait long enough. It seems to take about 10 times longer than running it manually from the GUI.

This is especially noticeable when exporting JPEGs. If the image to be exported is large to some extent, it will hardly progress after the progress bar reaches about 99%. CPU usage will be around 100%.
Example: When exporting 8 1700x1000px artboards at 300ppi, it takes 157.636 seconds (the weight of each JPEG is 2.9MB).

  17. Font Height Options misbehave with rounded fonts

Recently I started to notice that some of the fonts I use make wrong result when x-height or cap-height is used to set a font size.

I clearly see that the height is of, by eye and the underlying grid, but Character palette says otherwise. I outline the font, I measure glyphs and I get smaller dimensions.

Take a look at the file and the picture attached.

When fonts with straight terminals are used, everything is fine. Visual dimensions match metrics precisely.

But when a font with rounded terminals is used, like two examples at the bottom, things go weird.

  18. Live shapes loose their controls in Transform panel once they become a part of a compound shape

If I have a Rectangle shape and then subtract it from another path with Alt held (to make a live compound shape), I loose ability to change the width and height and rotation of this rectangle.
That is if I select it with the Direct/Group Selection tool — Transform panel does not show Rectangle Properties section, and Properties panel does not show anything from Transform at all — it has a no selection set of buttons.

This is crucial because the rectangle I subtract is rotated, and simply editing width and height distorts it.
    Isolation mode does not help.

  19. Coordinates label rendering problem in Overprint Preview mode

    1. Open the file and make sure Overprint Preview mode is on (thus GPU is off)
    2. Pick Direct Selection tool, grab the point and move it The gray label with current coordinates get smeared, like the GIF shows.

  20. Round Corners prevent a narrow bar from transforming

    Please open the file attached.
Make sure that you have Bounding Box on, and Scale Corners off.

    1. Select any one of the green bars.
    2. Try to make it shorter or longer, using bounding box (that is grab the center marker on the a short side) — works fine.
    3. Select the dark red long bar.
    4. Try to transform in the same manner — and fail. The bar gets only longer, and can't be made shorter (or shorter back).
    5. Make the red bar slightly wider or select the orange bar, it is a wider copy of the red one.
    6. Try to make…
