Illustrator could only partially read this file
When I load the first attached file in 24.0.1 (with Windows 10) it loads OK and I can edit it. When I save it and try to reload it in 24.0.1 it says Illustrator could only partially read this file. That's awful when Illustrator cannot read a file it has just saved.
The layers (and sublayers) under ALL > WATERWAYS > A-B beginning with A have all gone missing when it reads in what it can. Other parts may be missing too.
It works fine in 23.1. and I have had to revert to using that.
I have lost a day's work as I kept saving my work in 24.0.1 at regular intervals but the following day none could be read back in and I had to revert to the previous day's backup which was saved in 23.1
The first file attached (y191125-1042 EAW 95) is one which loads OK into 24.0.1 and the second (x191130-2214 EAW 95) is the result when the first file is saved in 24.0.1 and which will not load back in.
Note the files are not attached as I don't want them to be public. I will provide them on request.

MAC: System has run out of memory and force quits - Activity Monitor shows > 100GB
After launching Illustrator it will force quit with an error message "your system has run out of application memory." I have 8GB of memory and no other applications are open or running when I launch Illustrator. I am noticing in the activity monitor that illustrator is using a large amount of memory, extremely higher that usual. This started happening a few days ago and I have no changes to my OS or updates to Illustrator CC

Fonts - scrolling through list
What did you do to the font list??????
I don't even know how to describe the issue. I just know it's wrong. And messed up. And needs to be fixed!
Let me see if I can describe my complaint:
1) In the CHARACTER pallet: if you highlight the font name and begin typing another font name, I used to be able to put the first few characters (or even just the first letter), then click on the down arrow and it would bring me to that place in my list of fonts.
For example, I could type “HEL” and it would take me to the first font in my list that begins with HEL. I could either use that font or by selecting the drop-down menu next to the font name, I could see the fonts that were above or below that one in the list and scroll from there if needed.
Or if I typed just an “H” It would take me to the beginning of the fonts with names beginning with H and I could scroll from there and see the little font preview as I went.
No longer does that work. I have to scroll from the beginning of the font list every single time. It’s such a waste of time an extremely frustrating. Sometimes I cannot remember the name of a font but I know it begins with a P. Instead of using the little shortcut that I have used longer than I care to admit, I now have to scroll through every single font that is alphabetically above it to get there.
2) Also, now when you select some text and then sect the drop-down font list - again it starts at the beginning of the font list instead of starting in the list where that particular font is found. It’s the same basic problem as above. It used to take you to the point in the font list where the selected font resides alphabetically. No more. Scroll city.
Please. Please. Please. I am begging you to please fix this back to the way it was. Honestly, I don’t mind change. And most of the time I don’t have any complaints about upgrades because it makes the program better. This however is terrible and really slows down my process.
Thank you for reading all the way through this! Fingers are crossed for a quick fix on this one!!!

Image resolution wrong when rotated
When you place an image into a document the resolution is shown correctly, but if you rotate it, Illustrator continue to consider original pixel width and height as if image was not rotated.
Example:
- Import new 800x400px @72dpi image.
- Illustrator shows correctly 72ppi.
- Rotate it 90°.
- Illustrator now shows 144x36ppi, as if image size was 800w x 400h but it was stretched to 400w x 800h (so 800/400 = 2x -> 144 and 400/800 = 0.5x -> 36).26 votesThank you for reporting the issue. We have added the issue to our backlog.

Save a Copy in same folder of AI file (like before)
Save a Copy in same folder of AI file (like before)
Since the update to 22.0, the behaviour of “Save a copy” has changed so as to present the last-browsed folder destination in Windows Explorer. Previously this defaulted to the location of the working file.
This is interrupting workflow considerably. I’m sure I am not alone in saving PDF copies of artwork in profess, for discussion with colleagues and clients. This used to be a couple of keystrokes but now I have to remember to browse back to the working file location each time.
In summary:
Expected Result: Explorer window should really default to the location of the working file.
Actual Result: Shown location in Explorer window is that of the last-browsed folder destination.

MacOS Ventura color pale
After update to macOS Ventura, file color becomes pale, like neon color becomes pale
25 votesAs stated at https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/color-difference-between-cpu-gpu-previews/m-p/13322063, this issue is a Mac-only problem for Ventura on Silicon chips.
A workaround for now is to use CPU preview or run the app using Rosetta or open as Intel or roll back to Monterey.

Unable to save
This is not an idea, it is a serious bug.
Apple OS Mojave - latest version, Illustrator 2022 - latest version.Saving doesn't happen. Clicking File>Save As and nothing happens, no dialogue pops up, nothing. Trying shortcuts on the keyboard. Same. Trying to quit the program, shows File not saved/ I click Save FIle and it does nothing. So, unless I force quit, there is no way to close the program. Illustrator seems to not initiate any action on my attempts to perform a SAVE. It is a HUGE problem for my work!

Illustrator 24.1 metric precision broken
So there was a new release Illustrator 24.1 the other day which I installed. Unfortunately, it looks like the engineers messed up and semi-broke the conversion routines from inches or whatever measurement is used internally to the metric units displayed to me as the user.
What used to be displayed as nice whole numbers or up to a maximum of three decimals, is now never an even number and always displayed with four decimals. Just to take an example, a dimension clearly intended to be precisely 10 mm is now displayed as say 9.9998 mm or 10.0003 mm.
This is incredibly annoying for me and anyone else who usually works by numerically setting exact dimensions and coordinates. This also seem to affect other parts of the software like the PathFinder and join command. Objects where the coordinates should match now doesn't, generating several unnecessary anchor points or paths in the process.
Please fix ASAP!

text handling still a mess in 22.1
Text handling in the 22.1 build - meaning the interactions between the Paragraph, Character, Paragraph Styles, and Character Styles panels - is still fraught with bugs and/or undesired oddity compared to previous versions. (2015.3 being the last completely -- or mostly -- working version.)
Open Illustrator 22.1 (Windows) and create a new blank document.
Draw a text box and fill it with placeholder text.
Create a new paragraph style (‘body text’) and set the font, size, and leading to something different from the default. (e.g. font: 10pt Avenir LT Std Book, 16pt leading).
PROBLEM 1: Select a word or words in the text and change the style (by pulling down the list in the Character panel) to (for example) ‘Black’ instead of ‘Book’. The selected text leaps to 12pt/14.4pt leading, though it does stay in the chosen font.
PROBLEM 2: Undo. The selected text reverts to Avenir Book, but stays at 12pt/14.4pt.
PROBLEM 3: Undo a second time. The selected text goes back to the original state (Avenir Book 10pt/16pt), but the entire block of text is now selected (?!?).
Deselect.WEIRDNESS: Select a few words, and change the style (again, to Black), but this time do it by clicking in the Style box in the Character panel and scrolling through the values via the mouse wheel or the up/down arrows – not by pulling down the menu and making a direct selection. The text correctly changes style without changing its size.
Delete the entire text box. Draw a new one. Make sure the ‘body text’ style is selected in the Paragraph Styles panel and fill with placeholder text.
PROBLEM/WEIRDNESS: The text displays in the correct style (Avenir Book 10/16), but in the Paragraph Styles panel the ‘body text’ line has a ‘+’ after it, indicating that the text doesn’t match the saved style in some way. Also, in the Character panel, the leading shows no value (empty space) in the control. And the pulldown menu in the Paragraph Styles panel has ‘clear overrides’ dimmed out...
Further WEIRDNESS: If one then selects some words and opens the Leading pulldown menu (in the Character panel), it shows 16pt as the first item in the list (above ‘Auto’ and the list of default sizes), with a checkmark... it just isn’t displaying inside the text box.
Close the document and Illustrator.
Start Illustrator and create a new document.
Draw a text box and fill with placeholder text. Click outside the box to remove the keyboard focus (and cursor) from the contents, but leave the text box object itself selected.
Create a new Paragraph Style in the Paragraph Styles panel, called ‘body text’, font settings ‘Avenir Book 10/16’.
WEIRDNESS: The displayed text updates correctly, there’s no ‘+’ after the style name in the Paragraph Styles panel... but the Character panel still shows ‘Myriad Pro Regular 12/14.4’. De-selecting the text box and re-selecting it gets the Character panel to update (‘Avenir Book 10/16’).
Deselect and reselect the text box to get the Character panel correctly updated.
Select a few words. Then, in the Character Styles panel create a new character style called ‘italic’. Set the font to Avenir, Book Oblique, but do not touch the size or leading boxes.
Close the dialog box and click the character style name to apply it to the selected text.
Select an entire paragraph (or several) that includes the italicized text. In the Paragraph panel, change the size/leading to, say, 8pt/20pt. Everything works as it should.
Deselect everything and double-click the ‘italic’ style name in the Character Styles box to verify that the style displays no values in the size or leading controls, nor in the text summary, implying that size/leading are not specified and will not be affected/overridden by this character style.
Select the previously italicized text. The character style name shows as ‘italic+’ indicating that the selected text doesn’t match its character style definition, even though it should.
PROBLEM: Select some other text in the same paragraph. Click ‘italic’ in the Character Styles panel. The selected text changes size to 10/16, even though the size was explicitly not specified as part of the Character Style definition.
I could go on.

Top Bar Menu Items Stop Responding
Platform: macOS Sonoma 14.2.1 Illustrator: 28.1
While operating and working on a drawing portions of the Title Bar Menu no longer respond to clicks (File, Edit, Object, Type, Select, Effect, View Window) however the Illustrator and Help still respond. It was necessary to use keyboard shortcuts to save work and was necessary to quit and reload Illustrator and then load the file I was working on and the menu items now respond.
Has happened numerous times while working on recent drawings.
24 votesIt seems like this problem happens only for Mac Sonoma users...
Downgrading to a previous version of MacOS seems to be a viable workaround at the moment.
This is not a proposed solution though.
If this happens for you at earlier versions — please comment.

Image trace limited palette no longer works in AI 27.1
Image trace does not use a limited palette when this option is specified in the tracing options.
Steps:
- Place photographic or other image with many colours
- Choose any of the limited colour presets (16 in this example) and trace
Expected result: Trace uses the specified number of colours
Actual result: Trace acts as if 'Automatic' was selected (or otherwise disregards limited palette)24 votesI am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 27.1.1 which is available worldwide now.

Switching between files doesn't work properly - or at all
See the attached video. I have two files open. The second file I opened does not display. When I click on the file tab I still have the previous file displayed. Regardless of which file is active, I can only edit one. I can't even see the other. They are two completely different projects - they do not look the same. You are only seeing one file in this video, despite which one I select. I have to quite and restart, losing any changes I may have in the one file I cannot see.

Maintain width and Height Proportions bug
This has been a bug for at least a version or two: draw a shape, go to transform it in the Properties panel, and even though the "Maintain width and Height Properties" icon indicates "not constrained", adjusting one of the dimensions adjusts the other proportionally. This seems to happen only in a fresh file (perhaps fresh launch of Illustrator), and once I click and unclick the Constrain button once, it doesn't recur in that session.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/u0gqadn2lezzq7n/Constraint%20bug.mov?dl=0
So in the screen grab above, I draw a box freehand, then in the Properties panel, begin adjusting the height with my arrow keys. You can see the icon to the right indicating width and height are not locked together, but still, as I adjust the height, the width changes in proportion.
Note also that once I click that icon to specify "Constrain," then unclick it back again, now I can adjust the two parameters independently. And from then on in the file, the bug doesn't recur.

Illustrator turning all PNGs into negatives (with or without yellow background) after saving and reopening document
I'm on Windows 10 pro, version 21H1. The version of illustrator I have is 26.3.1.
When working on a document, CMYK or RGB, in illustrator with my Adobe color settings synced across all programs, all PNGs whether 16 bit or 8 bit turn negative. I've attached before and after screenshots.I've never had this happen before and I work with PNGs everyday, I spoke to and adobe support rep yesterday and gave them an AI filer where I tested PNGs vs JPEGs out. JPEGs are totally fine, only issue is with placing PNGs and I rather place a PNG than put in a huge transparent photoshop image.
It happens to all PNGs, even the ones I've made via exporting a vector image as a PNG.
