Bug - Cannot access Hands on tutorials
I was doing the hands on tutorials and then I loaded into the app and the section for them was gone in my tutorials tab. I found the webpage online that allows me to launch hands on tutorials from browser https://www.adobe.com/learn/illustrator?tutorialType=inApp&learnIn=1 and it leads to the screenshot provided. I would love to be able to continue doing the hands on tutorials. I ensured that I have no VPN installed, I updated graphics drivers, and reinstalled Illustrator to no avail.

Recent colors become None when Global or Spot Colors are used
Some Recent Colors are displayed as the None Swatch when Spot or Global colors have been added to the Recent Colors.
Turn on in the Edit > Color Settings all checkboxes for warnings about Mismatches or Missing profiles.
The default is unchecked. When they are unchecked, you will get no warning when opening a file with Global (or Spot) Colors in the Recent Colors and the file just opens without showing the problem.
When you have turned the warning checkboxes On in the Color Settings and have Quit Illustrator after adding the Global or Spot Colors in the Recent Colors, you get a warning about a Missing Profile (which is not true) when you create or open a file while the Global (or Spot) Colors are still in the Recent Colors (they are available across documents). If you click OK the file opens, just as it would with the warnings off. The warning will not show again during the current session. But if you click Cancel (as many times as the number of Global/Spot Colors that you have in your Recent Colors). The file will open with the recent Global/Spot Colors converted to None.Some Recent Colors are displayed as the None Swatch when Spot or Global colors have been added to the Recent Colors.

Symbol not following the artwork to move when moving, after update
I’m writing to report a bug I’ve encountered in Adobe Illustrator since updating to version 29.7.
When working on CAD artwork that includes symbols, I’ve noticed that when I try to move a symbol, the symbol artwork doesn't follow the intended movement. Instead, it either stays in place or shifts to an unexpected position. This issue did not occur in previous versions and is significantly affecting my workflow.
Could you please look into this and advise if there is a fix or workaround available? I’d be happy to provide a sample file or screen recording if needed.
Thank you for your support.

Scroll wheel over Opacity input field only affects selected object if the input is NOT focused
- Switch to the CPU preview, or use the GPU preview and turn off 'real-time drawing & editing'.
- Make an object. Keep it selected.
- Hover your cursor over the opacity numeric input box in Transparency or Properties. Play with your scroll wheel. Watch the opacity change.
- Click in the input box. Keep the cursor over it. Play with your scroll wheel. The number changes but the object does not, until you hit return.
- Try this in Illustrator 2020. Observe that in both steps 3 and 4, the object changes opacity regardless of whether you click on the opacity input box or not.
The settings in the Performance pane of the prefs interact with this:
If the GPU preview is on, this only happens if 'real-time drawing and editing' is off.
If the CPU preview is on, this always happens regardless of the status of the real-time drawing switch.
I observed this on a Mac running OS 14.7.6 and Illu 29.3; this change happened somewhere between 24.3 and 29.3. I just checked 27.8.1 and it has the new, undesired behavior as well. I'll see if I can get the person who brought this glitch to my attention to report their operating system and Illu version here as well.
This may affect other input boxes, I tried a few different stroke weight boxes and it does not affect them. The original discoverer suggested that other input boxes are affected but only listed the opacity.

PARM error with Bounding Box or Free Transform when scaling an image
I just started to get this error... on the newest version of Illustrator 29.6.1 ...when trying to scale an image up/down in size...
Any good ideas how to fix?

Gradient does not rotate with object when using corner handles (manual transform)
When an object with a gradient is rotated manually using the bounding box (corner handles), the gradient does not rotate with the object.
However, using the Rotate tool or Object > Transform > Rotate results in correct gradient behavior.This silent inconsistency leads to invisible errors in print output — especially in professional workflows.
🧪 The bug was tested on multiple Illustrator versions, macOS and Windows, fresh installs, and clean preference files. It is reproducible.

The name of the missing link gets trimmed from the left side in the file name field in the dialog
But why the name of the link in File Name field in the dialog gets displayed trimmed from the left side, even though the input has PLENTY of space in my dialog window?
This behavior is not new.
I have my guesses that it’s a legacy behavior, to make sure the name is seen on a smaller screen in the smallest dialog... but Ai probably knows the size of the dialog window and can calculate if it fits?4 votes -
Upon reopening Ai files, it shows that fonts are missing when they aren't
To fix the "error" I have to navigate to Adobe fonts, uninstall each font one by one, as uninstalling a font family all at once doesn't fix the issue, then individually reinstall each font. Super tedious and taxing to workflow. Issue is across multiple files, all that I have created on the same device that presents the "missing font" dialogue so I know it isn't a file issue. Please fix.

Holding Shift ignores Snap to Grid when creating artboards
When Snap to Grid is enabled, artboards now respect it, both when moved or get created... unless you hold Shift to constrain proportions when resizing or making it a square.
Totally works for rectangles, I can see no reason to prevent artboards from behaving in a similar fashion.
Here’s a somewhat similar request about these also misbehaving with smart guides:

[ExtendScript] Cannot set TextRange.justification to value in ParagraphStyle
We cannot successfully set textFrame.textRange.justification to the value in the applied ParagraphStyle.
For example, if the text has [Normal Paragraph Style] applied, which for me has Justification.LEFT, then I cannot set that text to have Justification.LEFT in cases where the justification has been changed.
(Tested on MacOS 15.4.1 Adobe Illustrator 29.5.1, but this appears to be an old bug.)
Steps to reproduce:
1. Create new document
2. Run the below scriptExpected Result: all tests passed and no alert message appears.
Actual result: Failed to set textRange.justification to LEFT.
Script:
(function () { var doc = app.activeDocument, textFrame = doc.textFrames.add(); textFrame.textRange.contents = 'Hello.'; // prepare for the test, ensuring - due to the bug - that the justification won't match the applied paragraph style textFrame.textRange.justification = Justification.RIGHT; textFrame.textRange.justification = Justification.CENTER; textFrame.textRange.justification = Justification.LEFT; // test RIGHT justification textFrame.textRange.justification = Justification.RIGHT; if (textFrame.textRange.justification !== Justification.RIGHT) alert('Failed to set textRange.justification to RIGHT.'); // test CENTER justification textFrame.textRange.justification = Justification.CENTER; if (textFrame.textRange.justification !== Justification.CENTER) alert('Failed to set textRange.justification to CENTER.'); // test LEFT justification textFrame.textRange.justification = Justification.LEFT; if (textFrame.textRange.justification !== Justification.LEFT) alert('Failed to set textRange.justification to LEFT.'); })();Additional note: in the link above, users discovered that performing a resize on the textFrame somehow removes the blockage and Justification.LEFT can be set afterwards. Perhaps it breaks the link to the paragraph style?
Edit 2025-05-23: to add details about the possible link to the applied paragraph style.
A possible temporary workaround:
// set LEFT justification textFrame.textRange.justification = Justification.LEFT; // now check it if ( Justification.LEFT !== textFrame.textRange.justification && Justification.LEFT === textFrame.textRange.paragraphStyles[0].justification ) { // bypass a bug where we can't set the attribute that matches the applied paragraph style: // - change the applied paragraph style's justification // - then change the textFrame's justification to the style's previous value, // - then return the paragraph styles original setting textFrame.textRange.paragraphStyles[0].justification = Justification.CENTER; textFrame.textRange.justification = Justification.LEFT; textFrame.textRange.paragraphStyles[0].justification = Justification.LEFT; }We cannot successfully set textFrame.textRange.justification to the value in the applied ParagraphStyle.

Applescript—cannot save Illustrator file if embedding ICC profiles
This is a bug, as verified by this post (https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/there-is-a-problem-with-saving-as-illustrator-using-applescript/m-p/15287552) and this post (https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/applescript-cannot-embed-icc-profiles-in-illustrator-save-options/m-p/15032019#M429674). I cannot save an Illustrator file as part of an AppleScript if ICC profiles are being embedded. This is a problem because I can no longer use my Applescripts for creating versions of logo files.
The following code will fail with the error "Cannot get document 1". The error occurs when the
savecommand’swith optionsparameter is a record containing aembed icc profileproperty.save document 1 in filePath as Illustrator with options {embed icc profile:true}
I have verified that a) the ICC profile was already embedded in the source document, and that if I save the file via the GUI, checking the box to save the ICC profile works. Using AppleScript to save the Illustrator file does not retain the ICC profile.This fails on macOS 14.5 and Illustrator 27.x and 28.5. It also fails on macOS 15.4 and Illustrator 29.5.0. It also fails on macOS 15.3.2 and Illustrator 28.7.6 and 29.5.
According to another user, JavaScript works properly. However, JavaScript is not a workaround for me.
var d = app.documents[0];var saveOptions = new IllustratorSaveOptions();
saveOptions.flattenOutput = OutputFlattening.PRESERVEAPPEARANCE;
saveOptions.embedICCProfile = true;d.saveAs(new File('~/testjs.ai'), saveOptions);
Please help -- I need to be able to save an Illustrator file with AppleScript, that has an embedded ICC profile.

HEX Franklin Variable Font is Not Visible when Editing
I am on a Mac running Illustrator 29.4. I am trying to use the variable OTF version of HEX Franklin, and all Adobe apps do not render the letterforms. When I try to select the variable font in the dropdown, it just defaults back to Myriad or the default typeface.
Other variable fonts work as intended, but specifically, this one is broken. Any possible fix?

Objects vanish when a PDF is exported
The PDF document is not being saved correctly. I have tried saving it in different ways, changing the elements and it still isn't working. I believe it is a problem in Acrobat itself perhaps?

Tabs in Swatch Info text are made with spaces instead of actual tabs
This is so bizarre. A native function for a professional application uses spaces in text to define tab stops, for a non-monospaced font...
Sure, tabs just won’t work, since they stay in place if the Swatch Info object gets resized.... and Ai still doesn’t allow to scale tabs if needed...
Instead of making 'Indent to here' work (here is a request about it: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/37578991) and use it here, this is hacked, rather dirty, giving a worth example to designers. Change the font and the indentations rips apart...
Shame!

Gradient Strokes lose exactly 1pt thickness when placed and embedded into another Illustrator file
When placing AI or PDF files into an Illustrator document, any strokes that have gradients applied will become exactly 1pt thinner than its intended weight. The weight shows properly before embedding the link. I've seen a number of designers use a gradient 1pt line on their artwork to seem "metallic" only to find their line completely disappears if their artwork is placed into another Illustrator file. This only applies if you embed the link. Leaving the linked AI/PDF as a link will preserve the correct stroke weight.
This appears to be present in several versions of Illustrator dating back to at least around 2021/2022. I had thought this was already reported somewhere, but I wasn't able to find another post like this.

Locate Object highlights the first child of a selected group instead of the group itself
When we select a group on canvas and click the Locate Object button, the tree gets unfolded and scrolled to the group.
But for some strange reason, the item highlighted in the tree is not the group itself, but the first child within.
This behavior is not new (although there was a time when Ai even used to keep the layer highlighted instead), but it feels odd.4 votes -
Custom toolbars with plugin tools rearrange themselves alphabetically on launch
Windows 11, Illustrator 29.3.1
I use a custom toolbar with the tools I use most frequently (many Astute Graphics plugin tools), arranged in a specific order that I go to with muscle memory. Recently (2 updates ago?), they jumbled up – actually, they arranged themselves alphabetically descending top to bottom – but for my purposes, this is illogically jumbled, and I have to hunt for tools visually; it is very annoying and time-wasting. Then I noticed they were in my proper order again… next day, jumbled. I’ve worked out what is happening. First Illustrator launch of the day… alphabetically jumbled. Reset the custom workspace… still jumbled. Shut down Illustrator and restart… tools in the correct order. It only takes a few minutes, but it’s a daily ritual I could do without.Windows 11, Illustrator 29.3.1

Blob Brush strokes often include garbage on turns
What is wrong with Blob Brush. Even with simplest strokes I often get groups, and these have the main part and tiny pieces of garbage next to it in them.
Sometimes these are thinnest slivers, sometimes knotted madness, sometimes chunks chomped off...
If I run simple Pathfinder Add, some of this get 'healed'. Why don’t you do at least this? Why these awfully angular turns and garbled edges happen in the first place? Please study the file.4 votes
