Keyboard shortcuts for text formatting (kerning, tracking, leading, font size) no longer work in Illustrator 29.7.1
This feature just stopped working. Please fix.
These also don't work:
Increase or decrease leading: Option + Up or Down Arrow (horizontal text) or Right or Left Arrow (vertical text)
Increase or decrease kerning and tracking: Option + Right or Left Arrow (horizontal text) or Up or Down Arrow (vertical text)
7 votesAs noted in the core report, the fix available in Prerelease build now, starting with 29.8. Preferences should no longer change some specific values when the Search field has anything in it. The next general build should have this fix included.

We request that function key conversion be re-enabled for Japanese input.
Due to the latest update release, the conversion shortcuts using function keys during Japanese input have become unavailable. Please restore them so they can be used again.
Conversion shortcut details:
F6 → Hiragana
F7 → Katakana
F8 → Half-width Roman characters
F9 → Full-width Roman charactersIn Japan, conversion shortcuts using function keys are commonly used.
Previously, I could use those keys for Japanese input conversion without having to delete the corresponding Illustrator shortcut settings. However, in the latest version, even deleting the settings doesn't work, which is inconvenient.26 votesReported as fixed in version 30.

Scaling down a placed image makes it unmovable
After placing a PNG and scaling it down to fit my artwork, I was no longer able to move the PNG into place. I could only select it in the Layers panel or by clicking and dragging over it. There does seem to be a threshold before this happens — if I only scale it down a small amount, it seems to behave as normal, but if I go beyond 50%, it becomes unstable. Of course, the workaround is to scale the PNG closer to the size needed, but this behavior seems to be new. I am pretty sure I…

I was doing my 2 month-deadline project and it suddenly crashed and didn't even saved the file. My deadline is tomorrow.

Arrow keys, Home & End keys don’t work when renaming Artboard names on canvas
We now can rename artboards directly on canvas, by double-clicking a name, if 'Artboard names on canvas' is enabled in Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display.
However, navigating this input with arrows, Home, End, etc., is not possible. Please make it work.6 votes -
Creating and/or Entering Opacity Mask doesn’t work from Properties / Control panels
When clicking on the Opacity popu-up panel (in Control or Properties) and then clicking on the mask thumbnail to activate that mode, the thumbnail highlights but as soon as I attempt to edit the contents of the mask, it shows that the mode is not activated. Only if I select the 'Clip' checkbox in the Opacity panel will it allow me to edit the mask. But then clicking the 'Object' thumbnail in the Opacity panel, similarly does not exit mask-editing mode. I have to uncheck the 'Clip' checkbox to get back to normal mode. Previously, simply clicking on each thumbnail…

Like the title says — make the Command and Space (zoom) work again while the Perspective Grid is active.

Picking Eyedropper temporarily disables Smart Guides

In previous versions (can’t say for sure now when it stopped) we were able to aim with the Eyedropper better, when Smart Guides were enabled. In CC 2017 it works. Was quite helpful to pick color from a stroke, highlighting the object that is going to be sampled. Cool, right?
But now, I suppose with the Photoshop-style sampling rings glued on, Illustrator forgot it’s a vector program. The sampling ring should not disable Smart guides!
I somewhat get why pressing Shift might disable it, because Shift enables the 'sample by pixel' mode, and picking a color…

Export for Screens scale dropdown doesn't work
In the Export for Screens dialogue, the dropdown does not change the scale entered in the box. For example: box says 0.25x. I choose 1x in the dropdown, 1x is checked in the dropdown, but the box still says 0.25x and the export will be 0.25x.
Typing the scale in the box works.

Spot Colors Won't Update In Linked Items
Spot Colors are not immediately updating for linked items when adjusting the color values of the swatch. The change will only show after a few seconds, when the file is embedded, or when overprint preview is enabled. Previous versions of illustrator allowed spot colors to be updated for linked items immediately. Spot color adjustments only immediately affect objects that are embedded or built within the file.
Using illustrator for color separations requires me to edit the appearance of spot white to be visible in different circumstances between film and art files.

Nothing happens when I click New in the File tab or when I use the Ctrl + N shortcut.

Can't select all and use Outline Stroke directly, especially Clipping Mask items
Can't select all to Outline Stroke directly, some clipping mask items will be missing, then need to adjust one by one, very inconvenient for printing FA

Cannot Save as New File in v30
Using the latest version of Adobe Illustrator (2026 version?)
Trying to "save as new" but the save window does not load completely and then button shapes inside disappear and remains in this state. The only thing you can do is close the box.

A temporary solution to this issue is the following:

First Attempt to Copy Hex Not Working
When I click into the fill properties under appearance, and click the "copy value" button, it always will deselect and NOT copy on first attempt. But if I try again after it will work. Similarly, when I first click on the value, it highlights, and then if I do CMD + C the value will become de-selected and not copied.

Strange loops and spikes when using pressure-sensitive brushes with XP-Pen Tablet on Illustrator 29.3 and newer on Windows 11

My system:
Windows 11, Version 25H2 (Windows Ink is deactivated, tried with activated too).
Old tablet: Artist 12 Pro (XP-Pen)
New tablet: XP-Pen Deco Pro MW
I tried all available Illustrator versions (I will explain later).I am getting very weird and inconsistent strokes when drawing with a tablet and the Blob Brush Tool (please see screenshot and video attached EDIT: video too big pls see the article from the other forum, the video is posted there).

Illustrator Czech Locale Brush Anomaly: Extra Brush and Deletable Protected Brush
I found an inconsistency in the Czech locale of Illustrator (tested in v29 and v30, Windows 10, macOS).
When creating a new document in the Czech locale, there is one extra default calligraphic brush compared to all other 18 locales. On top of that, the default calligraphic brush that is normally protected from deletion (in every other locale) can be freely deleted in Czech.

Can't see any Artboards
Every project I access opens, but I can't see any artboards. I have tried downgrading and uninstalling+reinstalling, to no effect.

(Bug) Alignment buttons go into hiding when selecting more than one object
When selecting a single object, the Alignment buttons appear on the top UI bar. But select MORE THAN ONE object, the Alignment buttons disappear.
Now I have to click on the "Align" flyout menu and click an option from there in order to align 2 objects, because my UI shows more blank space and fewer features than before.

unchecking "use document bleed settings" box in "Save Adobe PDF" does not remove the bleed from the saved file.

1: create new document with some amount of bleed in "document setup"
2: save as .pdf will bring up "Save Adobe PDF" Dialog
3: uncheck "use document bleed settings" box and save the .pdf

Saving in older illustrator format scales 10 times down
When saving a file in an older illustrator format, now the file appears 10 times smaller. As a signmaker working with sign software that doesn't accept newer ai or eps files this is VERY MUCH unwanted. I can scale it back to 100% in my sign making software but only manual. Not by alttering the comma in the scaling. This isn't accuracy I often need. Please undo this downscaling. Me, and a lot of colleagues, work for decades this way.
