Allow to isolate a compound path when only a part of it is selected
Since we can't isolate components of compound path and shapes it is strange that Ai won't isolate a whole compound path/shape when you select only a part of it.
Try this:
1. Create compounds path/shape — like a torus
2. Use Direct/Group Selection tool to select only the inner circle if your torus
3. The 'Isolate Selected Object' button won't appear on the Control panel and the assigned hotkey won't do anything. This should be fixed. Ai should allow to isolate a compound path/shape when you select a part of it.
Also, I think that Ai should be able to isolate these components in the first place: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-feature-requests/suggestions/40684777-make-isolate-work-for-components-of-a-compound-patSince we can't isolate components of compound path and shapes it is strange that Ai won't isolate a whole compound path/shape when you select only a part of it.

PDF Export/Save .joboptions not appearing; cannot use PDF/X-4:2010 Standard joboptions
Adobe PDF Export presets (.joboptions) that work in ID, PS do not appear as options in Save As > PDF in AI.
Edit > Adobe PDF Presets... show they are installed. Attempting to Install them manually returns an error: "The preset '[XX.joboptions]' is not recognized as a valid .joboptions file." They cannot be Edited nor Exported from this dialog. (Even though they can be Edited and reimported in other apps.)
Affected presets use PDF/X-4:2010 Standard.
Illustrator requires PDF Export presets specifying Standard PDF/X-4:2007 or lower/None.
Creating new presets within Illustrator and selecting "Standard: PDF/X-4:2010" in the dialog actually creates .joboptions files specifying compliance with PDF/X-4:2007.
This can be verified by opening the .joboptions files in a text editor. (I used BBEdit.)
Simply opening a non-working preset (works in ID & PS, but not available in AI) as text and changing the line:
/CheckCompliance [
/PDFX4:2010... to PDFX4:2007 renders the preset functional again.
This has been tested on Illustrator versions CC 2017, 2019, and 2020 on multiple machines; Mac OS Sierra, High Sierra, Mojave.
this follows from this Adobe Support forum thread:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator/my-adobe-pdf-presets-don-t-show-up-in-illustrator-cc/m-p/10861208#M162030Steps to recreate:
Create a PDF preset within ID (any version after CC 2015) that specifies Standard: PDF/X-4:2010.
Verify this same preset is valid and functional in ID & PS.
Open any file in AI (versions 2015-2020). File > Save As with option Format: Adobe PDF. In the Save as Adobe PDF options dialog, under "Adobe PDF Presets:" the custom .joboptions file is not present in the list.
Under Edit > Adobe PDF Presets... in the list of installed presets, the custom .joboptions file is listed. Selecting it, both Export and Edit are grayed out.
Selecting "Import" and selecting the same .joboptions file returns an error: "...not a valid .joboptions file."
Create a New PDF preset within Illustrator. Specify "Standard: PDF/X-4:2010." (2010 is the only X-4 option.)
Verify Edit and Export options are not grayed out and function.
Verify preset works in ID & PS.
Open both presets (Mac OS: /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings/) with a text editor.
Find the lines beginning with: "/CheckCompliance" and the immediate line after:
Files created in ID will read:
/CheckCompliance [
/PDFX4:2010Files created in AI will read:
/CheckCompliance [
/PDFX4:2007In AI (Edit > Adobe PDF Presets) and ID (File > Adobe PDF Presets > Define...) both report "Standards Compliance: PDF/X-4 2010"
In text editor, for preset created in ID, manually change:
/CheckCompliance [
/PDFX4:2010to "/PDFX4:2007" — Save preset.
Verify PDF preset that was previously unavailable in AI, File > Save As, Format: Adobe PDF is now present and functional.
Under Edit > Adobe PDF Presets... preset now has Export and Edit buttons enabled. (Preset still reports "Standards Compliance: PDF/X-4 2010")
Resolution: Either create all PDF/X-4 standards-compliant PDF export presets within Illustrator for the rest of the CC suite; or manually edit all .joboptions files created for PDF/X-4 standards-compliance from "2010" to "2007."
This may present an issue where strict adherence to the 2010 version of the standard is critical and required. Although PDF's are exported with "2010" selected, they are actually only compliant with 2007, the only version AI understands.

Expanding a Live Paint Object Changes Dimensions
Reporting a very frustrating Illustrator bug that has been there since version CS6 at least.
There is a bug concerning the Live Paint tool. Live Paint objects need to be expanded most of the time to develop them further in Illustrator. However, after expanding, the dimensions of the shapes get distorted and this renders the Live Paint tool completely useless for precise drawings or illustrations.
I hope something can be done to eradicate this bug as it extensively hinders workflow of many projects that need to be developed with Illustrator.
Thank you.
P.S. The same happens not only with imported files, but also with Live Paint objects created by native tools.

CC 2019 version runs slow!
For some reason in this 2019 version of the program it chugs and is very slow to move around and work with my files, even if the files are not very large. I usually have to shut the program down and restart to correct the problem. Would like to know if anyone else is having this problem and if someone at Adobe could address this, thank you.

Holding Shift with Smart Guides enabled when using Scale tool is works unreliably
macOs Sierra 10.12.6
Illustrator 23.0.1 - Scale tool doesn't work the same as it's been for years!! Ugh!
Please revert to the legacy behavior of scaling shapes, images and text proportionately by using the scale tool + holding shift key and drag to enlarge or reduce size of shape proportionately. This way has been burned in my brain for many, many, many years. My fingers move faster than I can think, and now my logos turn out wonky unless I scale it the long way, by opening up the scale tool and typing in percentages!! No thanks.
For now, how do I get the scale tool to work like it used to? Is the work-around the same for Illustrator 23.0.1, as it is for Photoshop?

Unstable CC 2019 in Mojave
Illustrator CC 2019 on OSX Mojave is completely unstable.
Ive been working on a few files today, Illustrator crashes within 3mins of working on a file and there is no recovery file, so basically I lose what I am working on. Im now saving every 30 sec anticipating a crash. At first I htought it was a font conflict, so I outlined all of hte fonts. Nope, still crashes. Next I will uninstall Illust CC19 and re-install.14 votesMojave is a supported operating system since Illustrator version 23.×.

Illustrator 2019 Crashes on startup
I've upgraded to the latest Illustrator (2019), but it crashes on startup. I have tried uninstalling it and re-installing it, but it still crashes. I've re-installed it with fresh preferences, e.g. not importing settings from the previous version and it still will not startup. The same thing is also happening to InCopy.??
Luckily I did not remove the previous version.
Any idea why this is happening and how to fix it??
I'm running a MacPro (Late 2013), 3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5, 32GB RAM, AMD FirePro D500 3072 MB, with macOS High Sierra (10.13.6)

Illustrator window shrinks, size not big enough, can't open the illustration
When I try to open a document from my drive, I get a pop-up window that says: Can't open the illustration. There is not enough room for the window; increase document area and try again.
I've only had this issue since the last update. What can I do to fix this?

Illustrator loses gradient fills from PDFs, generated in InDesign
We have an issue with an InDesign PDF Press Quality opened in Illustrator...
Our InDesign file is OK. The PDF PRESS exported from InDesign is OK.
Both are showing a gradient type below the black type and print well on our XEROX proofer (see file PDF from InDesign). When we open this PDF PRESS in Illustrator, the gradient type below the black type disappear (see file PDF from InDesign opened in Illustrator).
We tried with regular type and outlined type in InDesign. Same results.PDF Press is also attached.
The workaround was to export the InDesign file as an EPS file.
Can you fix it on the next update? Or the gradient was too complicated for Illustrator?
Let us know. Thanks!

Offset Path Won't Work
I am using Adobe Illustrator CC 2018 and can't get negative offset path values to work. I am trying to create an offset path in the negatives in text that I have created outlines on. When I do positive numbers, the offset path gets bigger (as it should) When I do negative offset values, the object is duplicated but at the exact same size. I have tried using the offset path tool from both the 'object' and 'effect' tabs and neither is giving me results. I have also tried negative values ranging from -1 to -16,000... there is no change.
14 votesHi Everyone,
Can you please provide a screenshot or step-by-step details of what you are trying to do. I ask because it’s working fine for me (see attached screenshot; it’s quite possible that I misinterpreted what you are trying to achieve). Could it be that the negative offset you are applying is greater than the size of the object. In that case, it won’t work. Otherwise it should.

Both Free Transform tool and bounding box treat narrow objects wrong
I don't use bounding box. It messes with my corner and middle points, it occasionally resizes my art when I just want to drag it by it's side and so on — so I always turn it of.
When I need to scale anything, I pick up Free transform tool.
Alas, both of these marker-ish tools have same problem — they treat narrow objects completely WRONG.See the file attached.
For example, I have a perfectly aligned and sized magenta strip.First, I try to use Free Transform tool to make it taller. AI transform my path not from the top edge of the PATH, as intended, but from the top edge of the FRAME, which is taller than my path because of this large markers.
This is ridiculous.Next, I undo my changes and turn on bounding box.
It does the same thing.Kinda related ti this one:
https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-bugs/suggestions/32277853-free-transform-tool-is-still-brokenThis is very-very-very stupid bug to have :(

Ultra-slow cycling through font names with arrows and focus in Font Family field
When I try to cycle through font family list with focus set in Font Family field, it takes about 1-2 second for AI CC2018 to change both name and actual font for selected object (but it does it as ultra-fast when you drop down this field!) AI CC2017 does it a bit faster (0.5-1 second).

Illustrator crashes for no reason multiples times a day
While using the latest (up to date) version of illustrator CC 2018 on my macbook pro (High Sierra 10.13.1) I get constant crashes on illustrator, forcing me to restart the computer as it freezes and does not recover. These are a few of the instances when this has occured:
- Changing between an Indesign open window and a Illustrator open window/document.
- Zooming in/out.
- Pasting copied objects from another open illustrator project.
- Moving an object inside a canvas.
- Creating new canvas in an open document.
-- and the list goes onI use my mac always connected to power, I've also try to use illustrator on its low performance mode, I also know about the GPU issues, I use CPU preview. Also I've re-installed the programme and tried using other versions..
I know that there are known issues with this version of illustrator with High Sierra, but for people that work with this programmes every day its quite the struggle to keep having to reset my computer over small issues.

SVG Export Missing XML Encoding Tag
The latest updates to Illustrator (21.0.1) seems to have removed the all-important encoding tag required by browsers to render SVG appropriately when embedding etc. in an html page.
