CMYK colors get recalculated in a document with color mode changed from RGB to CMYK, using Color Picker
According to the user, they often receive files created in RGB mode, and they have to convert them to CMYK, using File > Document Color Mode, make specific changes and push documents further. And while the document becomes CMYK, Ai keeps recalculating supplied values, as if these get double-converted via RGB space.
There are easy steps to reproduce this problem from scratch.
1. Create a new RGB document, using Web Document Profile
2. Go File > Document Color Mode > CMYK
3. Create a rectangle
4. Open Color and enter a CMYK color, like 15-30-45-15, tabbing through values. Press Enter while being in the last K field.
5. Open Color Picker again and check the values.Expected — CMYK 15-30-45-15.
The one I get, using my Color Settings, is 21,15-32,8-47,81-7,71If I enter these same values in Color panel — they get accepted fine.
Sometimes the Color Picker becomes sane and stops converting, but I haven’t figured out actions needed... perhaps something with the order of focusing fields? My guess is that somehow Ai treats the HEX field as the last selected one (even though it’s not), adn uses the value in it as the final choice...

Curved paths not honouring guide styles / Guides are not dotted
When converting artwork to guides, anything that has a curved path does not show the guide style set up in preferences. In my case I have guides set up as a dashed line with a light grey colour. What I'm seeing is a solid black line. Happens in AI 29.6.1 and the beta 29.7 88. Sample shows two shapes converted to guides but the ellipse remains as a solid black line. Using MacOS 14.7.6.

Scaling down a placed image makes it unmovable
After placing a PNG and scaling it down to fit my artwork, I was no longer able to move the PNG into place. I could only select it in the Layers panel or by clicking and dragging over it. There does seem to be a threshold before this happens — if I only scale it down a small amount, it seems to behave as normal, but if I go beyond 50%, it becomes unstable. Of course, the workaround is to scale the PNG closer to the size needed, but this behavior seems to be new. I am pretty sure I have been able to scale images freely in the past.

Can't Save multiple artboards as a Single File PDF from Export for Screens in 29.6
Even though the single file option is checked, multiple artboards will not be saved in a single file, but as separate PDFs.
This worked in previous versions.

Center Vertical Alignment for Area Type becomes Top when Every-Line composer is used
Take a look at the GIF attached.
When vertical alignment is set to Center, it works only for Single-line composer. When Every-line composer gets chosen, the alignment becomes Top instead. And please rename the option finally — it should be VERTICAL alignment, not horizontal: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/45711817

Can’t place an object between unfurled groups in Layers
If you have two groups unfurled in Layers — good luck in positioning an object between them in Layers. Any spot you drop it in will move it into either group, like the first attached GIF shows.
And if the object is originally within a group, you’d have to move it outside first, collapse both groups and only then put it in-between... when you have a complex layer structure it can be very painful.
Unlike in Photoshop (GIF 2), Send Backwards / Send to Back won’t move the object outside of the group, and dragging the layer to the left side of the tree doesn’t work s well — in Photoshop it just works, in Illustrator we get the 'forbidden' cursor.

ダイレクト選択ツールの動作がおかしい - Direct Selection Tool can’t move points with Snap to Grid enabled
ダイレクト選択ツールの動作がおかしいです。(English below Japanese)
使用OS:mac OS Sequoia(バージョン15.3.2)
Illustratorのバージョン:29.4The direct selection tool is not working properly.
When “Snap to Grid” is enabled, clicking on an edge or anchor point of an object that does not follow the grid will not select it correctly. Also, regarding clipping masks, even if “snap to grid” is disabled, the edge or anchor point cannot be selected.
This troubling event had not occurred before. Resetting the preferences does not fix the problem.OS: mac OS Sequoia (ver.15.3.2)
Illustrator: ver.29.46 votesThe team says it’s fixed in Prerelease build 29.6.191.
The fix is now scheduled to be pushed into the upcoming general release. If you are a part of the PR program, please check if it works.

Measure tool / Info panel does not show area for for many things
Recently Measure tool started to calculate are for selected / clicked objects, originally requested here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/33527584
However, it’s very basic.
1. It does not show an area for objects with no fill
2. No area for objects within a clipping mask
3. No area for the visible area of a clipping group as a whole
4. No area for an opaque raster image (not that hard to multiply two values)
5. ...or for a partially transparent raster image (again, we can evaluate this manually, by using a fill + Outline Object trick)
6. Nothing for meshes, live text, symbols, compound shapes...Finally, the Info panel requires you to pick the tool to start showing the area! Perhaps you should just show the area at all times?

Properties Panel Content Missing in Illustrator v29.3
Description of the Issue:
After upgrading to Illustrator v29.3, the Properties panel no longer displays its full content. For example, when selecting a rectangle, the panel only shows "Rectangle" and "Quick Actions," while other expected options are missing. This issue persists even after clearing the cache, resetting preferences, and restarting the application.
I downgraded to v29.2.1, and the Properties panel worked as expected. However, when I upgraded back to v29.3, the issue reappeared, confirming that this is specific to the v29.3 update.
System Information:
- Operating System: macOS 15.3.1
- Adobe Illustrator Version: v29.3
Steps to Reproduce:
- Upgrade to Illustrator v29.3.
- Open an existing file or create a new one.
- Select an object (e.g., a rectangle) and check the Properties panel.
- Notice that the panel does not display the full options as it did in v29.2.1.
Expected Behavior:
The Properties panel should display all relevant options for the selected object, as it did in v29.2.1.
Actual Behavior:
The Properties panel only shows limited options (e.g., "Rectangle" and "Quick Actions") and does not display the full range of properties for the selected object.
Request for Assistance:
Please investigate and address this issue in a future update. If a workaround is available, I would appreciate guidance on how to resolve this while using v29.3.

SVG Precision and options are reset on every launch of IL. Add a place in IL preferences allowing users to permanently set SVG precision.
I've gone over this problem in detail on the forums here:
Illustrator's precision for saving out SVG files has a default of 1 decimal place. This can cause severe path distortion and rounding errors in the resulting file if you simply save it with CTRL+S.
This precision setting is reset to 1 after closing and re-opening Illustrator no matter what settings you have applied in the past. To rectify this, you have to:
- FIRST select "Save As..."
- Choose SVG as your format.
- Click save and wait for the SVG options dialog to appear.
- Change the precision value from 1 decimal place to something like 5-6.
If you don't do this, any SVG you open and save (even if no edit was made) will likely end up malformed.
You can replicate this by opening a SVG, nudging it maybe a pixel or two, and then saving it with ctrl+s. Re-open the file and then observe the obvious distortions and rounding errors.
Right now, as it stands, It's so easy to corrupt any icons you might be working on if you are making changes from SVG to SVG.
All you have to do is make a small modification, hit CTRL+S, and then ... boom! Your file is now instantly corrupted and rounding errors distort your paths.
Here is an example.
Original Image:
Re-Saved Image:
I urgently request that Adobe does something about this, such as letting users define their default save options somewhere in the preferences so that this sticks permanently. Right now, precision is reset to 1 decimal place on every launch of the application.
Please add an "Export Options" section to the application preferences, or a menu item that allows us to set a default SVG export profile.
I beg that someone on the team incorporates an option to fix this!
Thanks so much for reading.

Template Layers Still Visible on Export for PNG and JPG
I am creating a logo package for a client and am attempting to export multiple logos / graphics with transparent backgrounds using the export panel. I've already confirmed multiple times that my PNG settings include transparency and that the View > Overprint Preview setting is unchecked. My background layer is set to non printing, however any PDF or PNG I export includes a visible background layer. I can completely hide this layer to avoid exporting it, but then I can't see my artwork correctly. The whole point of non printing layers is to see them when you are designing without exporting them. I am using Illustrator 29.1 and am on an iMac running Ventura 13.7.2.
I've been using Illustrator for over 10 years and non printing layers have always worked. The fact that these layers are showing up in both PDF and PNG exports indicates that it's a global transparency issue and not a file type setting. I've read every thread I can find and tried every setting possible and cannot get non printing layers to export with transparency. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Eyedropper cursor blinks while held
If you pick Eyedropper tool and hold it to sample a color continuously — it blinks, jumps, tries to change into a default pointer arrow.
Take a look at the small GIF attached, or watch a video by Laura Coyle here: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/lauracoylecreative_adobeillustrator-color-activity-7274877800715583491-HkxBHappens on both Windows and Mac.
And so you know it can work better and some other succeed — compare it with the way Affinity Designer does it (the second GIF).6 votes -

Opacity set with an action does not match appearance of opacity set manually
When trying to select multiple objects with the same fill color and opacity, selecting one of them and under the Select menu choosing Same > Appearance will add all the same fill and opacity objects to the selection.
However, when creating an object via an action and setting the fill color and opacity to match the objects to be selected, Select > Same > Appearance returns no results.
Manually selecting multiple objects in addition to the object created with the action shows "Mixed appearances" in the Properties panel. Individually selecting each of the objects shows the same attributes. Selecting multiples of manually created objects all show the same appearance properties. Adding an object with the same attributes but which was created via an action shows "mixed appearances."
This was posted in the Adobe community forum: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/select-same-gt-appearance-works-manually-but-not-in-an-action/td-p/14898865
Here are the steps to repeat:
Make a new, blank document.
Start recording an action in the Action panel.
Record yourself making a new rectangle with the Rectangle tool.
Set the Fill to Black, and the Stroke to None.
Change the Opacity in the Transparency panel to 20%.
Stop recording.
Move that frame to the side.
Manually create a new rectangle, using the same steps as above.
Under the Select menu, choose "Same > Appearance."
You should see the previous rectangle you made included in the selection.
Your Properties and Attributes panels should contain the same information for both objects.
Now run your action you just recorded in the Actions panel.
Choose Select > Same > Appearance.
Note that nothing else gets selected.
Manually select the rectangle created by the action plus either of the ones created manually.
Note the Attributes panel now says "Mixed Attributes."You recorded yourself making an object with certain attributes. You played back that action and according to every panel it has the same attributes as the one you previously created, but you cannot use Select > Same > Appearance to select them both because the appearances are "Mixed."
The only way to work around this is to create a Graphics Style with the attributes (opacity, fill) being searched for. Then an object can be created with an action, the action can assign the Graphics Style, and then Select > Same > Appearance will find all of the objects with the same fill and opacity (even if those objects do not have the Graphics Style applied).

[ExtendScript] TextFrame cannot be selected after creating
In script, after creating a new TextFrame it cannot be selected the first time.
(function () { if (0 === app.documents.length) return alert('Please open a document and try again.'); var doc = app.activeDocument, results = ['Results:']; // experiment 1 var tf1 = doc.textFrames.add(); tf1.contents = '1. created, selected:'; tf1.selected = true; results.push(tf1.contents + ' ' + (tf1.selected ? 'PASS' : 'FAIL')); alert(results.join('\n')); })();
Expected results: both tests would pass.
Actual results: only the second test passes.See the discussion at this forum post.
Note: this only seems to happen with a TextFrame. PathItems, for example don't show this bug.

1-bit PNG images can’t be placed, an !IMP error is given
When trying to place a 1-bit image on canvas, Ai either does nothing if it is drag-n-dropped, or throws an !IMP error message, like the attached image shows.

Clipped objects outside of the clipping mask get highlighted with Smart Guides enabled
With Smart guides turned on, the Selection tools see individual items inside the mask (even though when then clicking it only selects the mask). This behavior is also not desirable as it makes selecting objects really tricky.

Tracking of the first character shifts the alignment of the next tab stop
en_US
When tracking is applied to the first character of a text frame, the alignment of the next tab stop will be shifted from the correct position depending on the amount of tracking.
Only the tracking of the first character and the next tabstop are affected, not if kerning or akiRight is applied. After the target tab stop, the position will be correct.
This bug seems to have occurred in Illustrator 2020, as it is not reproduced in Illustrator CC2019(23.1.1).
Environment
- macOS 12.7.3(Apple Silicon)
- Illustrator 2020(24.3.0)〜2024(28.5.0)
Steps to reproduce
- Open the attached file trackingtabstop2019.ai in Illustrator 2020 or later
- Tries to edit the text in the text frame in it
- The engine of the text frame created in Illustrator 2019 is updated and the text is shifted
Expected result
Text position does not change; there is a right-align tab stop at 50pt, so text is aligned there.
Actual result
The text aligned to the tabstop is shifted to the tail direction.

Bug: exporting SVG's via exportFile(fileObjSingle, ExportType.SVG, svgOptions). has completely changed since 28.4
(macOS & Windows, latest versions) Beginning with Illustrator 28.4, SVG files exported via Javascript are in a very different format.
The following examples are exported with:
doc.exportFile(fileObjSingle, ExportType.SVG, svgOptions);
The SVG option for the format of the SVG is STYLEELEMENTS.
See attached captures for the differences.
There are many many changes:
- the style definitions are handled differently
- ID's now strip out characters like / or < instead of replacing them with entities
- the original names are included via data-name tags
- the comment from the 2nd line is now gone
- clipping paths are handled differently
I have built a complex program over many years that depends on special characters in the SVG ID's, and it is now completely broken.
Does anyone know how to get back the previous SVG export format?
Does anyone know if this is a bug that will be fixed?
