Pasting previously copied objects to random places
Illustrator pastes copied objects to random places outside of the view area.
I have to zoom out and look for the pasted object somewhere outside the artboard. Since updated to the latest version of the software. Also updated the OS to High Siearra to give you a full picture.7 votesPlease accept my sincere apology for the inconvenience. Illustrator groups unintended objects, you can't ungroup unless you click on a certain object.
I've had this issue for years with various versions of Illustrator. Occasionally when grouping and ungrouping objects Illustrator will get stuck on a grouped object and then subsequently clicked objects with that object.
It's annoying because it creates unwanted group handles for the subsequent object you want to click or transform.
Over the years I've found that the only way to "ungroup" the unwanted group is trying to find and select one of the objects that is "causing" the unwanted grouping for lack of a better explanation.
Again, this is not a new bug. It's something that I've been dealing with in Illustrator for multiple versions.

Not enough memory to place the file + can't export files Illustrator
Hi,
Hope all is good.
When trying to add any file over approx 50kb to an Illustrator project (to an empty one or one with existing layers), if that's a png, jpg or psd, error message comes out ''not enough memory to place the file'', or nothing happens at all.
At the same time, when I try to export a finished project (of any size), these methods don't work:
'Export As' PNG = the operation cannot be completed because of an unknown error. [!now]
'Save for web (legacy)' = can't even open the option panel, error message comes up straight away 'Could not complete this operation. An unknown error has occured'
'Export for screens' can export to all file types except PNG again. Is this all somehow connected?
Scratch Disks are saved to an external HDD
No other programs are opened when working in IllustratorMacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015)

As Andy commented that the memory issue was resolved after updating to 23.0.3, please try that.

Cannot select objects with selection tool
If I have a layer set to preview mode and it is above another layer that is not in preview mode, I cannot select objects in the preview mode layer when the objects are above an object in the lower layer. I have tried zooming in as close as I can and the selection tool will still not select an item in the preview mode layer. I can get around this by hiding the non-preview mode layer or selecting the object in the layers panel.

Chart inaccuracies
The chart tool often creates inaccurately sized shapes. This is especially noticeable in pie charts.

Incorrect stroke-width on Import of SVG
I've converted a series of EPS graphics to SVG using Inkscape. Most of these graphics have a "transform" attribute that is used to reduce the dimensions/stroke-width of each path. On open, Illustrator handles the dimensions correctly, but does not appear to apply the stroke-width correctly. I've written a PHP script that removes the transform by manually overriding each coordinate/stroke and the SVG's seem to now work correctly. Here's the link to the library if anyone wants to try it:
https://github.com/bpopp/svgtransform/
There's also a more in-depth description of this bug.

Actual result: font face and font size properties change.

.psd clipping path makes imported image scale incorrect
Create a file in Photoshop at 300dpi with a clipping path, import the file into Illustrator CC and place it. Make a note of the scale it imports at then import that same file without a clipping path and you'll get a different scale.
It seems Illustrator is treating the clipping file the same as an embedded file and using 72dpi as it's default resolution.
Why a clipping path should do this to a file is very strange.

Emoji rendering issues
- Some emojis like 🎉or 😟show up as two undefined glyphs when pasted from the clipboard.
- However, the 😟 will show up when inserted from the Glyphs palette.
To replicate, simply copy/paste these emojis on a text using the Apple Color Emoji font.

New document causes crash
When starting a new document, the first thing that Illustrator does is crash. Doesn't matter what the size of the document is.

Type On Path bug with OpenType-SVG fonts
- Apply a text to a curved path.
- Apply a color font like Trajan to the curved text. This results in incorrect glyph rotation.
- The rotation issue is no visible with CFF glyphs.

A tool blob brush is working only for a few lines and then (without any error message) it stops drawing the lines. Changing the tool for another and back to blob brush doesn't help.
I've reinstalled the whole application but still the same issue.

Black boxes appear on top of anything I draw with the pen tool
If I try to draw something with the pen tool a black box will cover it, while I can still draw what I want, I can't see what i'm doing which makes it very difficult.
I've updated illustrator, my laptop, and tried new documents but nothing will change it.7 votes -
Snap to Point does not work with Text Objects anchors
Snap to Point used to work on the anchor points of a Text Object. It's broken now.

New File and Help Tabs Not Working
This is not an idea, it's a bug in the system. The 'File -> New' command does not work. If I click 'File -> New', it brings up a new window that remains black and does nothing. I found a work around. If I check the use 'legacy "File New" interface' box In the 'Edit -> Preferences -> General' dialog, only then will it allow me to create a new document.
I can, however, upon initially opening illustrator, create a new document. But say i'm working on a project and I want to create a new document with the 'File -> New' command. It does not work unless I use the work around that I explained previously.
I'm also having similar problems with the help tab. Not a single command in the help tab works. If I click anything in the help tab, again, it opens a black screen that does nothing.

SVG text export failure
Illustrator 22.0.1 cannot export text layer names to SVG, which seriously impairs our SVG processing pipeline. Tested on both Mac and PC.
To reproduce:
• Create a blank document
• Create a new text object with the Type tool
• Give the text object a name in the Layers control panel
• Export to SVG, setting Object IDs to "Layer Names"The resulting SVG code will contain a <text> entity, but without its "id" attribute!

Editing a small CC Library object breaks the thumbnail
Editing small CC Library items leads to imminent damage to it's thumbnail.
1 Create an object in Illustrator (for testing purpose make it 4pt x 4pt)
2 Add it to cc library (noth that thumbnail is generated properly)
3 Edit the cc lib. object in illustrator (anything will do just add a rectangle anywhere on the canvas)
4 Save/close the CC lib objectExpected: the thumbnail is updated and represents the content of the CC item
Observed: the thumbnail is ridiculously small/not readableCheck the screenshots and video attached.

Crashes when closing Illustrator
After saving the file I am working on and selecting to clear the data on the clipboard (or even if I select not to clear the data), Illustrator will freeze and the bring up the Adobe Crash report dialogue box.
I have tried to provide feedback in this box, but if I change any of the settings on the Crash report box or type any comments, this too crashes. Windows registers the programme as not responding and tries to find a solution (and doesn't find any) and then closes Illustrator.
In some cases, when I next open Illustrator it will bring up the files I was working on as [Recovered] files, meaning that I can not always be sure, after saving a file that all my work will be there when I next open Illustrator.
