1. Creating and/or Entering Opacity Mask doesn’t work from Properties / Control panels

   When clicking on the Opacity popu-up panel (in Control or Properties) and then clicking on the mask thumbnail to activate that mode, the thumbnail highlights but as soon as I attempt to edit the contents of the mask, it shows that the mode is not activated. Only if I select the 'Clip' checkbox in the Opacity panel will it allow me to edit the mask. But then clicking the 'Object' thumbnail in the Opacity panel, similarly does not exit mask-editing mode. I have to uncheck the 'Clip' checkbox to get back to normal mode. Previously, simply clicking on each thumbnail would easily switch between mask mode and normal editing mode.

   The difference in the group structure in Illustrator causes a difference between the rendering result
   Even if a page knockout group is set, Illustrator will not perform knockout processing for group that unchecked knockout groups and will process in blending mode. However, when outputting a PDF, all objects are written out in a knockout. It is difficult to say which is correct, but it seems to me that the range of expression would be expanded if the setting to deny knockouts for groups were also enabled for PDF export.

3. XMPMeta is not defined on ILST 28.7.1 on MacOS #515

   As of ILST 28.7.1 on MacOS, XMPMeta has stopped working. However, it works fine on:
   - ILST 28.7.1 on Windows
   - ILST 28.6 on MacOs

   The issue also exists on ILST (Beta) 29.1 on MacOs.

   We have fixed this issue in 29.0 and 28.7.2 releases.

4. Back with a vengeance: Constrain (holding Shift key) doesn't work with Smart Guides turned on, for Scale, Rotate, Reflect

   This is an older bug that was fixed a while ago but seems to be back with a vengeance.

   It is now happening in Adobe Illustrator 28.4 on Mac OS Sonoma 14.4.1.

   A current 'workaround' is to disable Transform Tools option in Preferences > Smart Guides. This removes the 'uniform' guide, making the smart guides less useful, but it stops it from jittering.

5. Generating doesn't work. 'Something went wrong' message gets displayed

   Not generating neither object, nor scene or symbol...

   This issue is believed to be fixed in the build 28.4.0.20.

   Please try to update and generate anything. Comment back if it works.

6. When a group is set as a key object inside of the ungrouped isolation, Distribute Spacing treats some other groups as ungrouped

   1. Open the test file
   2. Isolate the group
   3. Select all
   4. Ungroup — now you have just <Objects> as the last step of isolation
   5. Click the leftmost group once with the Selection tool to make it the key
   6. Press Horizontal Distribute Space button in Align panel Ai will treat the last group as if it is ungrouped — but it is not!

   Why do I do this at all? To distribute all objects inside of a group.
   I can’t do this when it is grouped, so I select it first, then isolate (to avoid interaction with anything else on canvas), then ungroup this larger group — because otherwise Ai won’t allow me to distribute, because all selected children = the group selected. So I want to ungroup, distribute and then group back... but the bug forces me to undo and exit the isolation. Not cool.

   1. Open the test file
   2. Isolate the group
   3. Select all
   4. Ungroup — now you have just <Objects> as the last step of isolation
   5. Click the leftmost group once with the Selection tool to make it the key

7. Words get broken when hyphenation is off with no hyphens

   Illustrator (since a long ago) has a habit of breaking words in area type texts when it should not. Take a look at the test file and watch the attached GIF.

   As you can see, the second word is a long one, and Ai for some reason breaks it — although Hyphenate is off (and the language is properly chosen).

   No hyphen also is displayed at the end of the line, the word is just split.

   If we toggle the Composer from Single-Line to Every-Line, Ai at first correct the tracking and fits the word... but once the container is resized, it gets broken again... and sometimes, when nothing else is done, it gets recalculated again! ...but sometimes not, and it’s even worse, because non-reliable.

   InDesign does it properly, whatever composer is chosen, whatever language.
   No hyphenation should mean NO hyphenation. Words should break like this only when a container width is smaller than the word — and you can see it’s not the case here.

   Works the same on Mac and Windows.

   Claimed to be fixed in the latest 30.3 general release.

   The original report had a singular Latin 'o' mixed into the Cyrillic text, and this makes it break without a hyphen.

   The font team notifies that Unicode standart prescribes to not break between two scripts that use spaces as word breaks, so this problem can fixed sometimes later, when the team revises their reflow strategy.

   As for now, be notified it’s a very narrow case, and is a good sign that your text has homoglyphs in it.

   Please update and check if Ai now handles mixed cases with hyphens in their proper places.

8. Ai crashes (hangs) after installing (and selecting) Google Noto Color Emoji font!

   Since Ps has added NCE (Noto Color Emoji) font, Ai doesn't recognize it! I downloaded the font from GFont (NCE v2.038). After installing (for "All users"), whenever I select the NCE font in Ps or Ai, those apps crash (hang)!

   If I uninstall the font (which I downloaded from GFont, not the Ps native installed one) and reinstall Ps, the font works OK, but again it doesn't appear in the Ai font list!

9. Wacom is crashing Illustrator 2023

   It crashes within in minutes. It will crash while selecting a tool, moving the screen, or trying to use a tool--any function using a Wacom. There is rarely a crash report and often it's not even open long enough for the 2 minute autosave to kick in. I'm on a pc with Windows 10 and 27.2 cc.

10. Intertwine objects expand when an effect is applied to them

    When I want to add, say, a drop shadow to my whole intertwined art, I get it immediately expanded. A warning is displayed, but I’d prefer to keep it live.

    I’d put this in user requests, but let’s admit this is a bug, since I never asked for an object to be expanded, and it potentially can stay live — unlike moving one point of a live rectangle, which obviously makes it a non-rectangle anymore.

11. Free Distort effect doesn’t work properly with Freeform gradients

    When Free Distort effect is applied to a path with a freeform gradient fill (we all now know it’s not a real fill), the stops just vanish if they happen to 'fall out' beyond the resulting path — the same way they get dropped when you edit a path with a Direct Selection tool (which can also be treated as a bug, because you are just ditching user data — these color stops should be able to be placed outside of the path!)

    Images 6 and 7 show what happens if you try to make the shape larger than the original with same effect — we gat to see that technical offset Ai generates to work around the nature of the triangular mesh fill generated.

    It all looks like the effect gets applied to the invisible clipping mask of the resulting container, not like it happens for a NORMAL fill.

    ...but, if you drag the effect above the fill in the Appearance panel (image 8), you’ll get the look we wanted to create in the first place.

    Nothing like this happens for ordinary gradients, there is no visual difference if the effect is above or below the fill. However, the fill is actually never distorted at all — which is not cool. You have mesh tech! 'Distort linear gradients', as envelopes can do! Distort freeform meshes too!

    And yeah, you need to integrate new tools better.

12. Dissapearing controls

    My controls are dissapearing. Attached is a screenshot.
    I can select elements on the graphics but cannot see any buttons.
    Seems to be happening at random times. I have tried using 3 different PCs now and it happens on all 3.
    AI version: 26.5
    OS: Windows 10 Enterprise version 10.0.19042 Build 19042.

13. Crashing repeatedly 26.4.1

    Since the update to Illustrator v 26.4.1 there have been repeated crashes.
    Crashes creating new document from template
    Crashing when copying and pasting objects into Illustrator and crashing when working in the document. Only using basic shapes, although some shapes do have legacy 3D effects on them.
    Windows 10 Enterprise Intel (R), Xeon(R) E-2276M CPU 2.80GHz 2.81 GHz RAM: 42.0 GB 64-bit OS, x64-based processor

14. Blend Modes Hotkeys are broken

    Illustrator allows users to set custom hotkeys for blend modes, in Keyboard Shortcuts > Tools, right in the very bottom.
    Aside from direct commands for each available blend mode, there are two contextual keys: Next Mode and Previous Mode.

    They don’t work as expected. Let’s make a simple test.
    1. Assign Shift+9 (displayed as 'Shift+(' — which is not correct, actually) for Previous and Shift+0 ('Shift+(') for Next blend mode.
    2. Put two colored shapes in a stack, to see what’s happening when you change modes
    3. Open Transparency panel, to see which mode is chosen (for some reason Properties does not allow to see the mode)
    4. Select the top shape and hit Shift+0 (Next Mode)

    ...nothing happens. Illustrator refuses to change a mode when it set to Normal. Shift+9 (Previous Mode) also does nothing.

    1. Change the mode to Darken manually via the panel

    2. Press Ctrl+0 (Next Mode)
       Now it goes correctly to the next mode, Multiply.

    3. Hold this Ctrl+0 hotkey
       Ai goes through all available modes and stop at Luminosity, the last one — and won’t loop to the start of the list

    4. Hold the other key, Ctrl+9, to cycle back
       Ai never stops looping through all modes, but won’t never display Normal one.

    TLDR:
    A. Next Blend Mode hotkey does not work when Normal is chosen
    B. The list of modes does not loop to the start when you use Next Blend Mode key
    C. Looping through blend modes omits Normal blend mode

    Why is this important?
    A minimal way to utilize these keys would be one to set a normal mode (to reset blending, basically), and then any counted number of presses to navigate to a desired one. Instead we have to assign one for Normal, and one for non-Normal and hit the wall when cycling down.

    I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 27.0.0 which is available worldwide now.

    Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.

15. 和文組版の横組み文字列中の文字回転

    Illustratorの日本語組版で、横組み文字列中の1文字を回転すると、文字が上下・左右に暴れて表示されてしまいます。
    ※縦組み中ではそういった不具合は観察されません。
    添付ファイルのように検証してみましたが、その回転の際の原点あるいは挙動原理などがよくわかりません。
    例えば、添付ファイル右下のように補正してみても、同じファミリー内でウエイトを変更しただけでもその補正値は変わるようです（平均字面が関係している？）。
    和文書体は、（欧文ベールライン位置や平均字面は様々でも）基本的には正方形の仮想ボディに納められていますので、仮想ボディの中心を回転の原点としていただければ、このような補正の手間がなくなるのではないだろうか？ と考えられます。
    挙動を変更していただければ、作業者の負担も軽減されるでしょう。

    なお、このような「横組み文字列中のひと文字を回転する」という処理は、あまり日常的にすることではありませんので、既存ファイルへの影響も軽微なものであろうと考えていますが、変更していただくならば、【その変更を周知】していただくことは大切なことだと申し添えておきます。

16. Сonverting a type object from Area to Point replaces soft breaks with paragraph breaks

    Illustrator's 'Convert To Point Type' should not change soft line breaks to paragraph breaks, as the GIF shows.

17. Type on Path Broken - Can't Resize

    Not sure if this has been reported yet or not. When I use the type on path tool and try to resize it the type's center point is moved and/or the kerning is thrown way off. See the video for an example of what's happening.

    The only way I can get around this is making a copy of the object so I can save an editable version, then outline the text on the other version so I can resize. This is a MASSIVE pain.

    Using Ai version 25.4.1

18. Create New Sublayer button

    I have a group that I want to make a sublayer instead.

    I click it in the Layers panel and try to click Create New Sublayer button.
    It’s grayed out.

    OK, think I, I must target it then, right? I do it.
    The button is still grayed out.

    I select other objects, in Layers or on canvas.
    Still grayed out.

    Then I click a layer name.
    Surprise! Now and ONLY now the button is active... what?
    What else can I mean when having selected anything else inside of a layer?

    Fine, I target my group, select a layer without targeting it and hit a button.
    Illustrator create a sublayer at the topmost position, ignoring my selection.

    So I have to move my group inside manually.
    And then I also have to reposition that new sublayer to a position where I wanted it to be because order matters.
    Yep, I could have moved the sublayer to the group instead...

    Wait, stop. Why I think about working around again?
    Why it is always a case in Ai — to workaround?
    Why Ai don’t realize that I want to make a sublayer from a selected thing?

    Please fix it.

19. Color discripancy between "View on CPU" and "View on GPU" on a Mac with M1 chip

    I'm now running AI on a macbook pro with M1 chip.
    I noticed that when I switching "View on CPU" to "GPU", all colors became whiter and inaccurate (images inserted in AI became much whiter than the objects created and colored in AI).
    I've checked my older Macbook pro with intel CPU and AMD graphic card, the colors keep the same and accurate when I switch from CPU to GPU.
