Click and touch release problems Illustrator CC 2018 Mac High Sierra - cause dictation software
Illustrator v 22.0.1, Mac OS High Sierra on Macbook Pro 2016, touch bar, 2.9GHz Intel core i7, 16GB 2133MHz LPDDR3
Clicking, tapping, with trackpad or wireless mouse (Kensington wireless Turbo Mouse trackball): click/tap does not release, so the object is highlighted or selected and stuck to the cursor as you move it around.
In the layers palette, (The new Properties/Layers) clicking/tapping a layer lock to unlock it may unlock it with a delay, or lock/relock it. The same goes for view/hide visibility for layers. The response is difficult to interpret, possibly because of delays. But it not possible to use the application at all, with trackpad or mouse. I do not have another mouse, but will try with one if I can acquire one.
Discussions in the community have noted this behavior with Illustrator CC 2018 and High Sierra, and some suggested turning off GPU in performance preferences. This does not solve the problem.
This kind of issue does not occur in any other application, Adobe or otherwise, in Mac OS High Sierra.

Brush Pressure exceeds set size/variation
When drawing with the brush in CC 2018, the brush size of the stroke can exceed the set size and variation. For instance, If I have a brush size of 3 and variation 3, when drawing pressing very hard, the stroke size will go above 3 pts. in CC 2017 the brush stroke was limited to brush size.

Hi, all.
As per the investigation done by the engineering team, the issue is not a bug, but an expected scenario.
Variation means that it should go both above and below the set size.
So a 3pt stroke with 3pt variation will draw from 0 to 6 pt. Kindly reach out to us incase you have any queries.

Illustrator28.5以前で作成した添付の文字組み設定を、Illustrator28.7.1で開き、移動するなどすると前カッコが移動する。
添付資料の文字組み設定を利用したテキストで、全角丸開始カッコのみ移動する。
他の全角カッコでは問題なし。
複数のPCで同様の症状が出る。3.想定していた結果

添付資料を確認ください。1件のデータ内に、上記の文字組み設定利用有無の文字列が混在しており、同様のデータが100件以上あります。大変困っています。

Profile of the document changes when a screenshot with P3 display (AI 24.3) is drag & dropped on Mac
Take a screenshot (Command-Shift-4) and select the area. Drag in the image from its preview into an Ai open document with color settings: North American Web with the monitor profile preset to sRGB. Upon dropping the file into the canvas, the monitor profile becomes "Monitor" automatically. All the colors change visually with no warning presented.

Keep transparency of raster images is copied / pasted / drag-n-dropped
I have, let's say, image with background erased. I want to copy it from PS and paste into AI, intending opacity to be kept, but NO, you get opaque image.
I don't care who is in charge for this, you or PS team, just get it done already.
Same applies to PNGs from a browser.

PDF gets saved and viewed as 'This is an Adobe Illustrator file that was saved without PDF content'
As of this morning my PDF files are saving very odd. I have been saving them the same way for YEARS. As of this morning they are saving this (see attached). HELP? This is how I save files for our website to show available homes for a community. Obviuosly this is not showing the flyer sheet it was saved as from. I save as PDF, have a preset created that I select & save. Usually it's my flyer - today it this. From every file I try it from. ?????

Artboards & Content are displaced after saving and opening a file
After saving & opening a file with multiple art boards, many of the artboards and/or their content is shifted around the canvas. I already tried all kinds things, even creating a new file and copying everything over. The bug happens again and again – and it's unpredictable, sometimes it's just one element, sometimes it's half of all the content.
Working with Version 29.8.1, the file is in large format mode, Mac OS 25 (latest). Not saving on a cloud synced folder.
When saving the same file into Adobe Cloud, the bug doesn't seem to occur... at least for the last few times I tried. But actually I don't want to save them there.
Also, when saving onto hard drive, sometimes a dialog appears that the file was changed outside of Illustrator (which is not true).
See attached file (blurred): the grey boxes on top come from the artboard on the bottom and the red ones from the artboards below.

Step to reproduce

3. Open the PDF file in Acrobat and check the placed image to find that it has been downsampled to 300ppi.Expected result
The image is saved without being downsampled to 800ppi.Actual result
The placed bitmap image is downsampled to 300ppi.The preset is set to downsample to 1200ppi when the resolution exceeds 1800ppi. Images with a resolution of 800ppi in the placed state should not be downsampled because they do not meet the conditions for downsampling.
In addition, 300ppi is a fatally low resolution for handling monochrome bitmap images.Workaround

Ai2025 - The Pencil tool has become unusable again! There's no accuracy—it’s too smooth!!!
I’m here to post about the same issue I did in 2014.
The Pencil tool has become unusable once again! It’s smoothing too much, even on the maximum accuracy setting (left first slider tick).Back in 2014, when Adobe rewrote the Pencil tool, you removed the previous numeric settings and replaced them with four ticks. All of them were too smooth and took too much control over the path, leading to imprecise bubbly and smooth drawings.
I made a post about this back then, and Adobe was super nice to respond by adding a fifth lowest left tick with the previous lowest accurate settings, which I’ve been using for nearly 20 years now: "lowest fidelity, 0.5px smoothness, 0%."

This is making mine and my colleagues work impossible because the tool doesn’t generate enough anchor points to create the detailed and organic edge illustrations we need. Not everyone is looking to draw smooth, bubbly shapes!
This is crucial in an free hand drawn operation such as the pencil tool because anchor points act as the resolution of the path, determining the type of edges you want to express in your drawings. The character of the edge is essential for the final look.
Why shouldn't we have more control over the path resolution, allowing for higher values? Currently, Illustrator seems to be leaning towards reducing the resolution of our paths, limiting our creative control leaning towards more smooth bubbly or geometric style.
Inkscape is fantastic in this regard as it doesn't limit the resolution the artist gets to add to the path. It has a numeric setting where you can set what you need. Unfortunately inkscape falls short on other aspects of the freehand pencil drawing process, for instance you can't redraw over and over again and sculpt your path with the pencil tool as you can in illustrator.
With this post I’m requesting:
(1) To fix the bug and bring back the ability to generate more anchor points on the path for accuracty on the lowest tick with "lowest fidelity, 0.5px smoothness, 0%."
(2) I'm also making an additional feature request for the ability to add even more anchor points than that by adding an even lower sixth tick that generates even more anchor points, with a setting like "lowest fidelity, 0.2px smoothness, 0%."
Alternatively, and idealy, please bring back the numeric values like you had before that allow us to set the path resolution more precisely, similar to how Inkscape still handles it.
This won’t slow down the application in any significant way—today's machines can handle it. I've pushed Illustrator to its limits for many years, and higher resolution paths have never been an issue. There's no reason to hold back on giving users more control over the paths and the style of their illustrations.
I would love to assist in testing it out.

Locked background objects unlocking/moving when using lasso selection tool
When I select using the LASSO tool, on screen shows the correct points have been selected, but when I then try to move just these selected points, Illustrator also moves the LOCKED background objects underneath. This error does not happen when I select using other tools. This is clearly a bug!

Colour values change on their own! Very frustrating
Colours keep slightly changing over time, even as I am designing live inside a file!
I will enter an exact CMYK or RGB value to match our brands colours, then these values will change slightly all on their own.
I've been monitoring this for about 2 months now hoping this issue would be resolved in an update... but it hasnt been!
This is a massive issue! Colours have to be stable!
We need to be able to trust the program with things that are vital for a brand, like their COLOURS!
The attached image shows -
Top: is the original version of the design with correct colour values
Bottom: shows the change in colour and colour values a few mins later (still live in file, no save/close)Colours keep slightly changing over time, even as I am designing live inside a file!

Effects menu is smaller/larger than other menus on Windows with larger UI scaling
When looking at the effects drop down on a high definition laptop, it is smaller then the rest of the dropdowns.

Action using the Transform panel will not keep settings after restart of Illustrator
I created action that use the Transform panel, when closing and restarting Illustrator the action gives the error THE OBJECT "ALIGNEMENT" IS NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE. Action does work under Illy CC 2018 (version 22.1).
Currently using version 23.0.1

Pantone Solid Spot colors added from InDesign to a CC Library become Magenta Process colors in Illustrator
A Pantone Solid Spot color (or any Lab spot color) added to a CC library in InDesign will become 100% Magenta CMYK Process color in the Swatches panel when added from the CC library by double clicking in Illustrator.

Image resolution wrong when rotated
When you place an image into a document the resolution is shown correctly, but if you rotate it, Illustrator continue to consider original pixel width and height as if image was not rotated.
Example:
- Import new 800x400px @72dpi image.
- Illustrator shows correctly 72ppi.
- Rotate it 90°.
- Illustrator now shows 144x36ppi, as if image size was 800w x 400h but it was stretched to 400w x 800h (so 800/400 = 2x -> 144 and 400/800 = 0.5x -> 36).33 votesThank you for reporting the issue. We have added the issue to our backlog.

Certain font styles are missing, like Montserrat Bold, Arial Bold, Myriad Condensed, etc.
I have ITC FrizQuadrata installed. This font family has 4 styles: normal, italic, bold and bold italic.
AI CC2017 does show all four.
CC2018 shows only one — 'ITC'.It doesn't show it when you type family name, it doesn't show other styles in drop-down style list.
If I copy/paste text with needed font family style from 2017 to 2018, AI will show me two identical font names but two different preview near them (and again no italics).-

Font drop down menu disappears
Whenever I select the font drop down menu, and I'm going through the fonts I have, it just randomly disappears as I'm looking through the fonts to find the one I want to use, although I can still use my arrow keys to go through the list even though the drop down menu isn't on my screen.

Scale percentages are not consistent for images.
When placing a file without changing the scale, the links panel should display 100%.
It does that for Linked Tiff (and PSD) files, but displays a scale percentage (that depends on the resolution) for JPEG and PNG files.
When images are Embedded, a scale percentage is shown, where a resolution of 72 ppi is shown as 100% and smaller percentages for higher resolutions.
When images are just placed 100% should be shown, they are not scaled and their size reflects their resolution.
